QoS Parameters

Overview
• In this presentation QoS parameters for voice
service on different access networks have been
discussed. And, on the basis of these
parameters I have tried to select the QoS
parameters for VoIP QoS, related to the project.

Call parameters in ETSI TR 202 057-2
• Unsuccessful call ratio
• Call setup time
• Speech connection quality

Call parameters in ETSI 101 329-1
• Call setup quality (cross reference ITU-T E.600)
• Call quality (ITU-T G.107, P.310)
=> end-to-end delay
=> end-to-end quality
• Conversational speech quality
- listening quality
- talking quality
- interaction quality
- background noise transmission quality

QoS parameters in GSMA PRD IR.42
• Network Accessibility – circuit/packet switched
• Service Accessibility Telephony (SA-T)
• Setup Time Telephony (ST-T)
• CSSR (Call Setup Success Ratio)
• OCN & RDN
• Call Completion Rate
• ALOC (Average Length of a Call)
• CLI Transparency
• Speech Quality (SpQ)

QoS parameters in ITU-T I.350
• Access speed
• Access accuracy
• Access dependability
• Information transfer speed
• Information transfer accuracy
• Information transfer dependability
• Disengagement speed
• Disengagement accuracy
• Disengagement dependability

Some more
• Added to those described in the previous pages
there are parameters including billing integrity
and security as pointed out in ITU-T E.800

QoS Stack
• For a homogenous multipurpose network
Switching System specific QoS

Access Technology
specific QoS

Service specific
QoS

QoS based on Protocol Stack
• Customer plane QoS
• Control plane QoS
• Transport plane QoS*

* Not our concern.

QoS Parameter selection
• Based on the discussions earlier we can say that
selection of parameters highly depends on the
service that is being provided, which in turn
depends on the access network and swittvhing
system.
• For homogenous networks it is not a problem,
but for heterogeneous networks parameters
would follow the rules of union and subtraction in
set theory.
