Re: Public Forum for Master Plan Reexamination

You are invited to a community forum conducted by the Maplewood Planning Board to gather input in
conjunction with the reexamination of Maplewood’s master plan. It will be held on Tuesday, November
9th at 8:00 pm at the Maplewood Municipal Building, during the regularly scheduled meeting of the
planning board.

As you may be aware, the Maplewood Planning Board is currently conducting a periodic reexamination
of the town’s master plan. The master plan is a comprehensive planning document prepared in
accordance with the state Municipal Land Use Law, and provides guidance on the use of land within the
community, including such related aspects as housing availability, economic development, parking and
traffic circulation, utilities infrastructure, etc.

The town has retained the services of the firm Phillips Preiss Grygiel LLC, expert planning consultants, to
guide us through the re-examination process. Data-gathering began a few weeks ago, and the entire
undertaking will continue through the end of the year. This is an ideal time both to report our progress to
date and seek input from the community.

The planning board has identified two key areas to be studied, in addition to the core statutory scope of a
reexamination:

An assessment of significant buildings and parcels of land in the municipality, both public and
private, that might become available for sale, development and/or change of use in the foreseeable
future.

Whether and how to add substantive content to the master plan regarding environmental protection
and sustainability.

Representatives from our planning consultants will participate in the meeting. This discussion is a chance
for residents and stakeholders to be actively involved in the planning process, a critical step in the
obtaining of valuable input. This is a public meeting to which all interested citizens are invited.

We hope to see you at the November 9th meeting of the Planning Board.
