Liberal Democrat Vida Miller refused to support our
state’s Marriage Protection Amendment, even after
77 percent of voters in Georgetown County and
statewide voted to enact it.
According to the official journal of the state House of Representatives:
February 2005 -- Democrat Vida Miller made a motion that delayed for a
month the House vote on putting a Marriage Protection Amendment on
the ballot to let South Carolina voters decide.
March 2005 -- The state House voted 96 to 3 to put the Marriage Protection
Amendment on the November 2006 ballot. Vida Miller abstained, refusing
to support letting the people vote on and decide the issue.
January 2007 -- After 77 percent of voters supported the amendment on
the ballot, the House voted to ratify the people's decision by a vote of 92
to 7. Again, Vida Miller abstained and refused to support the amendment,
even after voters in her district overwhelmingly approved it.
South Carolina's Marriage Protection Amendment remains at risk from
activist federal judges. Georgetown County needs a state representative
we can trust to represent our values and protect our state constitution
and marriage laws.
