Joints of the pelvis

1-Sacroiliac Jt.:

It is synovial Jt.
Between
Auricular surface of sacrum X Iliac bone

Ligaments of Jt.:

1-Post.sacroiliac ligament
2-Interosseous sacroiliac ligament
3-Ant.Sacroiliac ligament
4-Iliolumbar ligament
Between
Transverse process of 5th lumbar vert. X Iliac crest

Function :
• Transmit the weight of body from vertebral column to the bony pelvis
• Weight of body tends to push the upper end of sacrum downward& lower
end of sacrum upward.
This movement is prevented by sacrotuberous lig.& sacrospinous lig.
• Small amount of movement(forward&backward) of promontory of
sacrum occurs

2-Symphysis pubis Jt.:

It cartilaginous Jt.
Between 2 pubic bones
It surrounded by interpubic ligaments
Pubic bones moves apart during labor
3

3-Sacrococcygeal Jt.:
It cartilaginous Jt.
Between 5th sacral vertebra & 1st coccygeal vertebra. It is surrounded
by 2 ligaments(ant.&post.sacrococcygeal lig)

At this jt.—the coccyx moves backwards during labor

Abdominal muscles
(2) Regions

Ant.abd.M. Post.abd.M.

Ant.abd.M.:All muscles are covered by

Skin---------Superficial fascia-----------Deep fascia
• Skin has lines of cleavage which run downward & forward around the
trunk
 incision in surgical operation should be done along these
lines to avoid scar formation & to get rapid healing of wound

Fatty layer(Camper’s fascia)

*Superficial fascia

Membranous layer(Scarp’s fascia)

Fatty layer is continuous with fatty layer of other parts of body.It is thick in
obese

Membranous layer is thin & fades out laterally & above

4

Inferiorly

Midline Lat.
Forms a tubular sheath Fuses with deep fascia of thigh
around penis or clitoris 1 cm below inguinal lig.

• In perineum –It enters the wall of scrotum or labia majora & called
(Colles fascia)
Ant.—attached to pubic arch
Post.—attached to perineal body & perineal membrane

*Deep fascia : Thin layer of connective tissue covers all muscles of

ant.abd. wall
