HOBOKEN BOARD OF EDUCATION 
SPECIAL MEETING 
NOVEMBER 23, 2010 
 
SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS 
RESOLUTION 1(A) 
 
 
WHEREAS  The Hoboken Board of Education has been engaged in a search for a Superintendent of 
Schools; and  
 
WHEREAS  the Interim Superintendent of Schools, Peter Carter, having twice extended his proposed end 
date, has advised the Board that he and the Interim Assistant Superintendent of Schools, Walter Rusak, 
will be unable to serve beyond January 31, 2011; and 
 
WHEREAS the Board unanimously identified Dr. Mark Toback as the finalist for the Superintendent 
position; and 
 
WHEREAS the Board and Dr. Toback negotiated the terms of a proposed contract, which they found to 
be mutually acceptable, and forwarded same to the Executive County Superintendent of Schools for 
Hudson County for his review and approval as required by law; and 
 
WHEREAS the Commissioner of Education has directed the Executive County Superintendent of Schools 
for Hudson County that he can take no action on any proposed contract for the position of 
Superintendent, 
 
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board hereby names Dr. Mark Toback as its next 
Superintendent of Schools, beginning as soon as lawfully possible, through June 30, 2015; and 
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board and Dr. Toback await action on the proposed contract from 
the Executive County Superintendent of Schools for Hudson County, as required by law.
