Lab 4: Energy of a Bouncing Ball

I-Objective:

The purpose of this lab is to find the velocity of the ping pong ball before it hits the ground,
the velocity after it bounces and the energy lost during the procedure (V , V , E I think that if the
2 3 lost).

velocities will be dependent on each other in order to find the amount of energy lost.

II-Background:

In order to do this lab we used a ping pong ball and a ruler. We dropped it at a height of 1 meter. We
used the equations: ,

III-Procedure:

To start off, we found an equation that will allow us to find the velocity of the ping pong ball before it
hits the ground, the velocity after it bounces and the energy lost during the procedure (V , V , E
2 3 lost).

Then, we dropped the ping pong ball from a height of 1 meter. Lastly, measured how high the ball
bounced back up. Then we used the equation that was relative to find our objectives.

IV- Results and Calculations

Based on the calculations below the mass of the ball is .003kg and the height that the ball
bounced back up was .66 meters.
V. Conclusion

In conclusion, the energy lost was a small amount and the velocity of the ball drop was greater than the
velocity of the rebound. The possibility of human error was with the measurements of the height and
rounding off in velocities.
