GENERIC BOARD
USER GUIDE (2009-10)

Introduction

Generic Boards are general purpose Printed


Circuit Boards (PCBs) which can be used for more
than one purpose.

This generic board can be used for the following


purposes: Basic circuitry for line following robot,
wall following robot, electronics projects involving
microcontrollers etc.

Components

• IC L298N (2) • 10k preset pot(9)


• Burst connectors • RMCs connectors :
• 4.7 V Zener diode 2 pin (3), 8 pin(3),4 pin (2), 5 pin
• IN 4148 diodes(16) (1), 10 pin (1)
• 1k resistors (3) • IC 7805
• Capacitors • LEDs Red and Green
22pF(2),470uF(2),100uF • Atmega 32,40 pin IC holder
• Reset switch (1) • 16 MHz crystal oscillator
• ON/OFF push button switch • LM324(2) , 14 pin IC holder (2).

Schematic

Sensors and ADC

• Provision for 8 sensors and two LM324.


• Separate pot to set threshold voltage for each
comparator.
• Output of each comparator connected to PortA

Motor Drivers
•Motors can be connected to 4 pin RMCs
•Each IC can drive either 2 DC Motors or 1 Bipolar
Stepper motor
•IN 4148 diodes are used to prevent spikes caused
during change in the direction of motor current as
it harms the microcontroller.

The microcontroller can be


programmed on the
generic board itself.

Power Supply

Two Power Supplies viz Power and Power1

Direct power to the motor drivers

Regulated 5V to ICs

Unregulated direct supply to the ICs

Microcontroller

• The board can be used for Atmega 16, 16L,


32,32L.
• The 16 MHz crystal acts as an external clock
• The reset switch restarts the execution of the
program.
• All pins are accessible through RMC
connectors.
• The microcontroller can be programmed from
the board

Interrupts

• PIN D3, PIN D4 are the interrupt ports.

• A two pin connector provides access to the


interrupt ports.

LCD

• LCD is used in nibble mode (4


bit interface). RS,RW,E D4 – D7
are connected to the uC.
• The board is designed for 16x1,
16 x2 LCDs

• A 10 k pot is used for contrast
control.
• If the LCD is not used these
ports can be tapped
individually .
