Aldermanic Vacancy Application Form Kathy A. Adams

Question 5

My family and I have lived in the 28th Ward for more than 38 years. I have been the President of the 4700 Block Association for four years and have worked with a number of departments throughout the City of Chicago to make our block safe for the residents.

In conjunction with the Chicago Park District, we have redeveloped and restored the Ohio Playlot which included obtaining new athletic equipment such as basketball rims and swings, resurfacing and landscaping, installed a new sprinkler system, corrected significant water seepage, refurbished the children's play area, and upgraded the fencing to provide additional security and safety for our children.

I have helped organize four block clubs throughout the City of Chicago. The purpose of the block clubs was to offer programs and services for the residents and to make their blocks safe. Through my work with my block clubs and 11th district CAPS Department, I received the City of Chicago Community Builders award in 2008. I have been invited to speak at a number of press conferences and the 11th District Operation Clean to discuss safety concerns in our communities. Since I've been President of The 4700 Block Association we have fed over three thousand people, over 20 families in difficult times and have given school supplies to over four hundred students and toys to children for Christmas.

I bring my excellent customer service and managerial skills that can help develop a solid community I keep my neighbors abreast of services and programs that will benefit the community. I have built a relationship in the 28th ward with people that have the same heartbeat to make our neighborhood a better place to live or visit.

Currently I am employed at The Joseph Center® and Illinois Small Business Development Center where our focus is to develop entrepreneurs and train and equip people in specialized skills to enable them to hone their skills to such a degree that they are able to maximize their earnings potential and garner promotions in the workplace. My position at The Joseph Center has given me the opportunity to attend a number of chamber meetings such as the Forest Park and Maywood chambers. Also, we offer financial workshops in the Lawndale Community, in which I have helped to facilitate. The purpose of the workshops is to help residents understand finances and how to maintain a budget.

I also have a comprehensive understanding of business principles and a full grasp of the tools necessary to not just survive but thrive in this current economy. I have been a resident in the 28th ward for over 25 years; I attended elementary school and have served for years to make our community safe. The relationships that I have established over the years, with all walks of life in this community, has made me a great candidate as Alderman of the 28th Ward.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Kathy A. Adams 4702 W. Ohio Street

Dear Mayor Daley:

This letter is to express my interest in the appointment for the Aldermanic Vacancy for 28th Ward. As a concerned resident and President of the 4700 Block Association, I know I'm qualified to hold this term. I believe that I have the heart beat of the community and know what the people are looking for by living in the 28th Ward, serving the residents and talking to my neighbors and peers. I have a heart to serve and to help empower people to have a better understanding of who they are and the programs that are available to assist them.

I've been recognized as a leader in the community when it comes to the safety and security issues in my neighborhood. My dedication to assisting others has led to prayer vigils in the Ohio play lot. I attend monthly Alderman's meetings, beat meetings, EAVI meetings and am a core team member of the 11th District's focus group. I received a Community Builders Award on June 07, 2008. I have spoken at press conferences regarding safety for the children in the community, not to bring the National Guard to Chicago and School Choice Rally. We have offered a number of programs in my neighborhood to help empower the people (ex. Annual Back to School Family Celebration, Clean and Green, Community Workshop, Annual Thanksgiving Food Giveaway and Toys for Tots).

I know I have what it take to hold this position and help develop and empower the people to become one heart and work together and develop a better community. I appreciate your time in reviewing my documentation.

Re: Kathy Adams

This is to serve as a letter of reference for Kathy Adams. I have known Kathy for about 4 or 5 years. She is a very personable and caring individual. I have known her to go out of her way to be of assistance to others, even to the sacrifice of her own resources.

Kathy is a known community leader. She has served faithfully for years and has done so in excellence. In addition to her community work, she volunteers in many other ways through her local church. In this role, she has served to assist me with our Continuing Education program. As an Alderman of the zs" Ward, she will continue in the same vein of excellence and sacrifice. It is her desire to serve in excellence. She also has operated her own private business for years and has demonstrated the ability to manage many projects simultaneously.

I am recommending Kathy for this position of Alderman of the zs" Ward without qualification.

Re: Kathy Adams Aldermanic Candidate for 28th Ward

Dear Mayor Daley,

It is my pleasure to submit this letter of recommendation in support of Kathy Adams, as an Aldermanic Candidate for the 28th Ward. Ms. Adams is an outstanding individual who is known for leadership, excellence, integrity, commitment and compassion. Kathy started working in the Illinois Small Business Development Center at the Joseph Center in 2007. She has always been a valuable asset to our office and most recently was promoted to the position of Office Coordinator, providing business advice to pre-venture entrepreneurs, making arrangements for business training workshops, and fulfilling many of the administrative requirements for the Center. She is well versed on the elements of starting both for-profit and not-for-profit businesses. In addition to her responsibilities in the IL SBDC, Kathy has full responsibility (including budget development and management) for the Joseph Center Business Offices and most recently, she coordinated a successful private networking event for the clients of the Illinois Small Business Development Center and the students and alumni of the Joseph Business School.

In addition to the work associated with her employment, Kathy has consistently demonstrated leadership in a volunteer capacity. She has been a member of Living Word Christian Center since October 1998. Through her numerous volunteer commitments, Kathy's influence may be seen throughout the organization. She has done extensive work with youth and has developed others to carry on her work. As Singles Ministry Chairwoman, Ms. Adams presents positive, innovative programs and solutions that enhance the lives of single individuals within the organization, including both singles who are parents and those who are not. Typical of her resourcefulness and compassion, these programs benefit not only the participants, but others in her community and beyond. As part of her Singles program, Ms. Adams instituted several outreach programs where these individuals are given opportunities to interact and care for seniors, and / or other local citizens in their own communities. Kathy's service as a Quality Service Representative and with the Pastoral Care ministry round out her full range of volunteer activities.

Kathy Adams is a phenomenal asset to not only our organization, but the community networks that we service. This recommendation is presented without reservation, in full confidence that the City of Chicago and especially the 28th Ward, will receive a tremendous benefit by appointing Kathy Adams for an Aldermanic candidacy for the 28th Ward.

Respectfully submitted,

"Once there was a zen master. He had a large farm, and several sons. He called and told them, 'go find the gold in the land'. The children searched here and there, but could not find the gold. They dug inch by inch, but still, no gold. But then they started farming wheat; and from each stalk, they produced seventy more, and seventy more. When time came to harvest, they realized that this was the gold their father promised." I have the wisdom to discover the potential that lies in the 38th Ward.

It takes many qualities to lead a Ward of Chicago: Mental and emotional maturity and fortitude, humility, honesty, courage, business acumen, and a passion for public service. These are traits that I possess, and intend to use for the public good.

As I have built ITKA Karate into an internationally known business, I have assembled both a local and international network of business contacts that will both bring economic growth and raise the global stature of Chicago. The skills I teach here, and throughout the world, have touched the lives of thousands, both adults and children, and brought to them skills that will help them live richer lives.

As an immigrant, I have the skills and understanding to work with peoples of different backgrounds. Given the cultural and ethnic diversity of the 38th Ward, that skill will be essential to working with our residents. I can help them assimilate, cooperate, and become thriving partners in our city.

For over thirty years, I have served this community. Whether through volunteering at our schools, sitting on community boards, or building business associations, I have a proven track record of engagement with our community. I Chair the Northside Task Force Chicago Commission on Human Relations, and have attended hundreds of meetings to bring different cultures together.

As a single parent, I have seen the educational services in the 38th Ward, and can empathize with the challenges faced by many in our community when it comes to the critical issues of education and safety.

Due to the wide range of skills that I possess, I am confident that I can lead and face the issues that exist in the 38th Ward and Chicago. I would like to take this

opportunity to respectfully offer my services as Alderman of the 38th Ward for the unexpired term of Alderman Tom Allen.

Mr. Richard M. Daley Honorable Mayor of Chicago City Hall

Dear Mayor Daley,

Once, an ambitious man heard there were diamonds in his town. Without any knowledge or preparation, he sold his property and started searching for diamonds. The new landlord, shortly after purchasing the land, discovered that there were acres of diamonds on the very same property of the man who sold it in search of the precious stones.

We must have a vision and prepare ourselves to continuously serve our community on a daily basis without stopping and with great passion. This will prepare us to learn and serve.

Once the opportunity arises, preparation will be the foundation of the next stage. I feel that I discovered diamonds in our community and I am prepared to meet this chance and serve.

As an athlete, I am fit physically, mentally and emotionally. All qualities which are required to serve our community as its Alderman. With my qualities. of sportsmanship, humility and honesty, I have touched the lives of many members of our community.

As a successful businessman, I have led a karate school from a small club to an internationally recognized business. A quality essential to maintaining and growing Chicago's position in the global community.

As an internationally recognized Sensei, I possess the mental toughness to make the courageous decisions necessary to lead our community and the city through challenging times. As a single parent, I can empathize with the challenges faced by many in our community when it comes to critical issues of education and safety.

Due to the unique set of skills that I possess, I am well-qualified to lead our community and city in the years ahead. I am qualified both to lead on the issues specific to a community, as well as those facing our city as a whole.

Based on my record of service to our community, and a deep sense of commitment to its people, I am asking for your consideration to be appointed to serve out the remainder of Alderman Allen's unexpired term as 38th Ward Alderman.

RE: Mahmoud Bambouyani

Dear Mayor Daley:

The Portage Park Chamber of Commerce (PPCC) is a non-profit business organization that provides technical assistance to local businesses, organizations, religious institutions and schools. We are located on the Northwest side of Chicago and serve as a delegate agency of the Chicago Department of CommunityDevelopment,

Mahmoud Bambouyani has served the PPCC for the past eleven years as a Director and Officer on the PPCC Board. He has been one of the most outspoken cheerleaders for the City of Chicago in general, and the Portage Park community in particular. Mahmoud has been a tireless champion of small businesses on the northwest side and has devoted countless hours promoting the Chamber to the companies and organizations in our service area. As Vice President for Membership he was our lead ambassador, making personal visits to local businesses to invite them PPCC events, inform them about city assistance programs (such as the Small Business Improvement Fund Program), and encourage them to work together to make our community a safe and welcoming place to live, work and shop.

Mahmoud owns and operates a family business - the International Traditional Karate Association - that teaches Shotokan Karate, exercise and meditation. He is one of the highest ranked black belts in the country (8th Degree) and has taught master classes and lectured throughout the world. Although an enormously talented martial artist and instructor, he radiates a calmness and serenity that is both welcoming and comforting. His message of peace and cooperation has been the hallmark of his work in the community, with the PPCC and other non-profit organizations, and with many of the schools and churches in our area.

Richard M. Daley November 26,2010 Page Two

Mahmoud also served for many years as the Chairman of the North Side Task Force, a coalition formed by the Chicago Commission on Human Relations to combat intolerance through education, court advocacy and cultural diversity. He spent many hours chairing meetings, attending events, organizing vigils and speaking out on issues of tolerance and equality.

The Portage Park Chamber of Commerce is privileged to have Mahmoud Bambouyani as a resident and business owner in our community and Board member of our organization. He has, and continues to be, a positive force for the improvement of our neighborhoods and the continued development of the business community on the northwest side of Chicago.

Should you have any questions, or wish to further discuss our unqualified recommendation of Sensei Bambouyani, please do not hesitate to contact the PPCC office.

Sincerely,

Mayor Daley:

The city of Chicago has no equal. Whether it be the booming business community, the innovative people, or the strong education system Chicago is a leader in our nation. For over 100 years Luther High School North has been serving families by educating students and developing servant leaders in Chicago. The Luther High School North community wants to see the successes of this great city continue to go hand in hand with our future as an institution.

2011 is going to be an important year for Chicago as we make huge changes in our city council and we expect many changes in our local communities and our schools as well. One of those changes will be in the 38th Ward as the outgoing Tom Allen will be replaced by your appointee. We would like to see that appointment go to Mahmoud Bambouyani.

Mr. Bambouyani has been a karate champion and also a champion for our community for over 30 years. His commitment to education and servant leadership is exemplified in his involvement with the Portage Park Chamber of Commerce, Wright College Advisory Board, and serving as president of the Northside Task Force for the Chicago Commission on Human Relations. The people in this community are his top concern and his focus on strengthening the community is commendable.

Mr. Bambouyani has the leadership, experience, and willingness to work with the various groups in this community to be an amazing Alderman for the 38th Ward. As owner and sensei at ITKA Karate School, he teaches his students about discipline, focus, and hard work. Luther High School North shares in these values as well and we look forward to walking alongside Mr. Bambouyani in serving this community for many years to come.

With Firm Conviction,

Honorable Mayor Daley:

Mahmoud 8ambouyani worked virtually hand-in-hand with me in creating the Six Corners Association.

We met when we were both active on the board ofthe Portage Park Chamber of Commerce in the late 1990s. His longtime involvement in the chamber and in the community helped open many doors for me. Creating a new organization is never easy, and without Mr. 8ambouyani's enthusiasm and boundless energy, it would have been difficult to see the project through.

I've known him to work with many community organizations, institutions and not-for-profits, including the Northwest Neighborhood Federation, the Chicago Park District, Chicago Public Schools, Northwest Side Housing Center and Children's Memorial Hospital.

He is a great unifier of people, and I personally believe he has all the qualities needed to be a extremely effective alderman.

Honorable Mayor Daley:

The Six Corners Association has worked with Mahmoud Bambouyani since the founding of our organization in 2002.

We have found him to be a strong advocate for neighborhood improvement. Mr. Bambouyani contributed his time and energy to help establish our organization. Also, he has spoken at budget hearings in support of creating the first general purpose SSA on the Northwest Side and of the Six Corners streetscape project.

Mr. Bambouyani is a unifier. In addition to working with our group, he also serves on the board of the Portage Park Chamber of Commerce, North Side Task Force on Human Relations and Wright College.

Mr. Bambouyani is a communicator and a listener. During a stressful time between the community and the developer of an anchor building, Mr. Bambouyani took the initiative to bring all the parties together to open up the lines of communication and eliminate mistrust that were slowing down the project.

Please feel free to contact us if you would like any more information.

The Honorable Richard M. Daley Mayor, City of Chicago

Dear Mayor Daley,

I am writing this letter of recommendation in support of your consideration of Mahmoud Bambouyani's appointment to fill the unexpired term of Alderman Tom Allen of the ss" Ward, a vacancy created by Alderman Allen's resignation effective December 6, 2010.

I have had the privilege of knowing and working with Mr. Bambouyani over the past several years in our capacities as directors of the Portage Park Chamber of Commerce and members of the Wright College President's Advisory Board. During this time, I have been impressed by Mr. Bambouyani's dedication to our community and city. His involvement with these and many other community and charitable organizations arises out of a deep sense of responsibility and duty to the people that he lives and works with in the Portage Park neighborhood.

Mr. Bambouyani is uniquely qualified to represent the stakeholders of the ss" Ward. Besides being a resident of the ward for over thirty years, Mr. Bambouyani is a small business owner in the ward as well. He is keenly aware of the challenges faced by residents and business owners in the ward, and of issues unique to our community. From a local perspective, Mr. Bambouyani would be an ideal advocate for the residents and business owners ofthe ward.

Not only would Mr. Bambouyani's appointment to the City Council be of benefit to the people ofthe sa" Ward, but to the people and stakeholders of the City of Chicago as a whole. Mr. Bambouyani has demonstrated his ability to grow his business globally and to bring economic development to the ward. His karate school has grown to an internationally recognized business over the past thirty plus years, and his founding of the annual World Friendship Karate Tournament held at Wright College brings business to the ward. His network of national and international contacts would serve Chicago well as it competes to maintain and grow its place in the global community.

Beyond these quantifiable skills, however, Mr. Bambouyani possesses qualities that cannot be underestimated when assessing his ability to represent the interests of the ward and City. As an immigrant himself, Mahmoud understands the challenges faced by our diverse community and city, and what is needed to assimilate and succeed in today's environment. He knows what it is to be a single parent and to worry about the education and safety of our city's children. His commitment to improving these two core areas of concern is shown through his service to Wright College, which provides an affordable and excellent educational alternative to our city's young people, and his support of CAPS and other CPD initiatives. As president of the Northside Task Force of the Chicago Commission on Human Relations, Mahmoud strives to create a culture of acceptance and inclusion for all people of our great city.

As a lifelong competitor and athlete, Mahmoud would bring those qualities to bear as an advocate for both the ward and City. Combined with his genuine and demonstrated desire to serve people, and an accompanying humility, Mahmoud's many qualities would make him ideally suited to represent the people of the ss" Ward on the City Council.

Thank you for your time and consideration of Mr. Bambouyani's appointment to the ss" ward aldermanic vacancy.

To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Michele Rodriguez Taylor and I am the Executive Director of a non-profit organization located in the 38th Ward of Chicago. I am the mother of two small children and an active member in my community.

I first met Mr. Bambouyani earlier this year at a local Chamber of Commerce meeting. approached him in the hopes he could assist me in developing a stress relief program for my staff. Being a non-profit, my organization does not have a lot of money but Mr. Bambouyani was able to create an amazing program that was affordable, meaningful and greatly received by staff.

Mr. Bambouyani cares deeply about the 38th Ward and is a great advocate for all who live and work in the community. His sincerity is genuine and his commitment to serve the northwest side is obvious in all that he has done to make this community a great place to live. I firmly support his bid to be Alderman of the 38th Ward.

To Whom It May Concern:

Northwest Neighborhood Federation has worked with Mr. Mahmoud Bambouyani since 2006. Although Northwest Neighborhood Federation is a non-partisan community organization and does not support any candidate we cannot ignore the contribution that Mr. Bambouyani has done for our organization but most importantly for the families of our community. NNF partnered with Mr. Bambouyani to provide Karate instruction during our after school classes for over 80 students from our local elementary schools from 2006 until 2008. This partnership helped children not only with their physical health but also with their self-confidence and discipline. Mr. Bambouyani not only provided the classes but went further into assisting families to join the karate tournaments and continue with classes even after our after school program ended.

We-are happy to say that Mr. Bambouyani is an asset to our community and we are grateful to him for his hard work, generosity and dedication to our children, and families.

Dear Mayor Daley:

This letter comes to you as a testimony and a recommendation for Mahmoud 8ambouyani. I have known Mr. 8ambouyani for over 6 years in the capacity of co-chair of the North Side Task Force on Human Relations, an initiative of your Chicago Commission on Human Relations.

I have known this great man to be a dedicated community leader, always serving, educating and inspiring our citizens and promoting our city. He has been the driving force in our volunteer organization to unite people of different backgrounds in fostering cultural awareness while addressing the elimination of all forms of bias and discrimination.

When we began, back in 2004, the task at hand seemed insurmountable. However, with Mr. 8ambouyani's help and leadership, we have become a successful and active organization that is committed to bring forth activities and events that promote education on human rights issues, to include hate crimes. We are very proud of our thriving organization and its "off-shoot", the Youth Task Force.

I can attest to Mr. Bambouyani's impeccable character and integrity, as well as his business savvy. He is a superb leader that works tirelessly and brilliantly for his community and would be a dynamic asset within our City.

In closing, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your many years of outstanding service to our city and wish you the absolute best on your retirement.

Mayor,

Someone who instills good values, good leadership, and respect for others is exactly the kind of person we need as Alderman. The person who I have seen display these qualities in abundance is Mahmoud Bambouyani. For years he has taught our children both physically, improving their bodies and minds, but in making them better people. They take what they learn in his classes, and apply it to their lives.

I trust him to lead our community well, and protect our families because that is simply what he does. And if he can handle students from adults to preschool, he can handle anything that the city council will throw at him.

I know that he has improved the lives of our children through his teaching, and I know he will improve the lives of our residents and the community as Alderman of the 38th Ward, and that is why he has my support.

December 1, 2010

To Whom It May Concern:

This letter is to serve as a recommendation and support for M. Bambouyani. Mr. Bambouyani has run a successful business on Irving Park Road in Portage Park for a good number of years. He is very active in the community and serves on the Chamber of Commerce Board. He is very active with youth development and works closely with all levels of the neighborhood schools in developing positive youth programs. He also

works with local law enforcement agencies helping set a positive environment for the communities youth. He is involved in charity work that helps the underprivileged, military and their families, local and foreign disaster victims, local hospitals and others

in need.

Mr. Bambouyani is a good citizen, neighbor and friend. I am proud to know him and to be considered his friend.

Mayor Daley:

As a business owner in Illinois, I'd like to thank you for your years of service and commitment to business owners. It is a commitment that must be preserved for the continued success of Chicago. That is why I am writing you.

I recently learned that Alderman Tom Allen of the 38th Ward will be accepting a position as judge starting this month. I know that as Mayor, it is your prerogative to fill any vacancies in Aldermanic positions, and I am urging you to appoint a leader and business owner to the post. That leader, in every way, is Mahmoud Bambouyani.

Bambouyani has the business experience to keep our businesses strong, and the community involvement to be able to lead this Ward in the right direction. Between owning ITKA Karate and growing it from a start-up to a world-class small business, helping to create the Six Corners Association, and his civic work with the Northwest Neighborhood Federation, CPS, and Children's Memorial Hospital, Bambouyani has shown himself fully capable of taking the reigns as Alderman the minute that Tom Allen accepts his new post. Without you looking after the business community, we need someone who will. I recommend Mahmoud Bambouyani for the post of Alderman of the 38th Ward.

Mayor Daley,

I have known Mahmoud Bambouyani for over a year. I first learned of him when he came to my children's school to teach them. I was so impressed that I chose this year to enroll my children in his school. The values of respect, honor, good choices, are things that are needed more than ever in Chicago. They have made my children better people. But most of all, I was impressed by the fact that he not only teaches these values, but chooses to live them in his everyday life.

Even with parents, he takes the time to know everyone of us. He listens to our concerns, gives us advise, and shows nothing but respect for us. He pays attention to the little things. That is the kind of person who deserves to be Alderman of our 38th Ward, and he has by complete support.

Yours truly,

Mayor Richard Daley,

I know Mr. Bambouyani from my son's school. He came to teach children during a free special lesson in phys ed. The first I hear of him was my son asking me to take him to enroll in Mr. Bambouyani's classes. I didn't think much of it at first, but when I finally did take him, I was highly impressed by the man. Mr. Bambouyani has helped instill in my children a sense of self-respect, respect for others, and a philosophy to do better in life.

Students and parents alike look up to him as a leader. He not only talks about what to do, but brings a philosophy of honesty and respect to his life and the lives of others. My children, and hundreds of other parents' children, have become better people from knowing Mr. Bambouyani, and I know that if these are things he can bring to children, then they are things he can bring to our community. I absolutely recommend Mahmoud Bambouyani to be the Alderman of the 38th Ward.

Mayor Daley:

I have known Mr. Bambouyani for only a few months, but already he has my utmost confidence and support in his bid for Alderman. He has been a teacher to my children, giving them self-esteem, a better attitude, and skills that I have never seem before. His openness and desire to care for others has made me so confident in him that I gladly trust my family, and the families of the 38th Ward to his care.

I now regularly volunteer for him in his business, because his positive attitude and energy are the kinds of things we need to see more of in life, and in government. It is with one hundred percent of my belief that I recommend Mahmoud Bambouyani for the position of Alderman of the 38th Ward.

Mayor Richard Daley City Hall, Chicago 121 N. LaSalle St.

Mayor Daley:

First, I would like to thank you for your exceptional service as Mayor of the City of Chicago. Your commitment to small business owners and the preservation of our beautiful city has been greatly appreciated throughout the years. I'd like to wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

I am writing you this letter to recommend Mahmoud Bambouyani to fill the position of Alderman of the 38th Ward. Tom Allen has been a strong ally for our business and has always looked out for the best interests of our community. He was always available to us and sympathetic to the needs of the small business community.

I strongly believe Mahmoud Bambouyani can continue this strong commitment to our neighborhood and small business community. Mahmoud has been a great friend, neighbor and fellow small business owner throughout the years. His involvement with the Six Corners Association, his civic work with the Northwest Neighborhood Federation, CPS and Children's Memorial Hospital have been greatly appreciated and admired throughout our community. Mahmoud is a man of great character and values and I'm certain he is the right man to lead our Ward in the right direction.

Mayor Richard Daley Chicago City Hall

121 N. LaSalle Chicago, IL 60602

Dear Mayor,

My name is Judith Rangel and I know Sensei Mahmoud Bambouyani because

my daughter attends Karate at his ITKA location. I am very proud to say that he is a positive role model for the young kids in our community. He is an important person in our community because he cares about our kids and their well-being. When he is here at his location on Irving Park he teaches our children about being respectful, honest, polite and caring.

All these qualities that he teaches are qualities that he himself has and shows.

These great things about him will allow him to help the community and our needs in the 38th Ward. I highly recommend him to become the Alderman for our 38th Ward.

Sincerely, ~ i2CUtJ

Judith Rangel

Mayor Richard Daley Chicago City Hall

121 N. LaSalle Chicago, IL 60602

Dear Mayor,

I wanted to write you to express my support and recommendation that Mahmoud Bambouyani be the person appointed Alderman once Tom Allen has left the post. My son attends class under Mr. Bambouyani, and I have seen the kind of respect and leadership he shows. He takes care for every child he teaches, and every adult too. He listens to people and takes a positive outlook on things. These are things that will serve him very well as Alderman when he needs to deal with the people in the Ward.

I have seen the strength and leadership that Mr. Bambouyani uses, and think it is a good thing. I would like to see more of it in Chicago, and would like to recommend him to be the next Alderman of the 38th Ward.

Sincerely,

/~v-~

Mayor Richard M. Daley City hall - Room 406 121 North LaSalle Street Chicago, IL 60602

Dear Mayor Daley,

I am writing this letter to express my interest in being considered for the appointment of 38th Ward Alderman.

I was born in the 38th ward and have lived in the city my entire life. I am the 10th sibling of 13 brothers and sisters; all of which grew up in the ward, attended church and school at St. Ferdinand, St. Patrick High School and Mother Guerin. I attended Wilbur Wright College for a few semesters and ultimately graduated from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL.

I lived for a time in Wicker Park, long before it became what it is today. I worked for my sister, Catherine Caravette at her real estate office located on Damen Avenue across from the old 'Busy bee' restaurant. Catherine, like you, had a vision of what Wicker Park and Bucktown could be and I had a front row seat in the major transformation of that part of the city.

After graduating from NIU, my wife and I settled back into the old neighborhood (38th ward), where we started our family. We have three small children, 9, 7 and 4 years of age. All of my children attend Portage Park School and I look forward to the day that my son will graduate from St. Patrick High School as well.

I am extremely proud of my city and how it has grown and developed under your leadership. For quite some time I have wanted to be a part of city government and to contribute all that I have to offer. This is the premise of why I made my decision to run for the office. In all honesty, I was disappointed that I would not have the opportunity to work with you, since you announced your retirement.

I have the solution to this problem. I am seeking your appointment to the 38th Ward Alderman; this will give me a great opportunity to work with you and to become familiar with the workings of City Hall. There is no doubt of your legacy here and across the nation, as a mayor with an unquestionable love and devotion to his home.

I seek the opportunity to show my own love and devotion to our great city. With the strong support from the people who live in the 38th Ward, we are looking forward with great anticipation to winning the February election. The people have great hope that they can be heard and represented by one of their own.

I ask you to appoint me to the open seat of the 38th Ward Alderman. I am confident that you will give my request the utmost consideration.

All of my best,

Tom Caravette

To Whom it May Concern,

I am writing this letter of recommendation in support of Tom Caravette's nomination for 38th ward alderman. I am a small business owner on the northwest side of Chicago and have known Tom since childhood. We attended St. Ferdinand~s and St. Patrick's together. I know Tom as a close friend, as a father, and as a small business leader. I can honestly say that out of all of the choices and all of the applications to represent his ward, Tom is by far the most honorable person to represent this important position. Tom is honest, straightforward, and understands what it means to truly represent the people of his community. He was born here in the 38th ward, and still resides here today with his wife and family. He believes in the city and the possibilities that living and raising a family here can hold.

We desperately need people like Tom Caravette in office, and I firmly believe Chicago will be well served by having him as an alderman. I have no doubt that the number of applications for this position are great, but I encourage you to think about the true purpose of the other applicants, and what they are really seeking to gain. Tom Caravette has my recommendation and will be receiving my support in the upcoming election.

SincereO~~

Tom Caravette 4223 N. Austin Ave Chicago, II. 60634

To whom it may concern,

I have only had the pleasure of meeting Tom Caravette this past summer, while he was actually walking door to door collecting his signatures to put his name on the ballot. I was a bit surprised that someone wanted or thought they could run against Tom Allen and actually win.

He was unwavering in his beliefs and confident in his ability to launch an effective campaign to win the election.

He spent almost 30 minutes talking with me and my family about everything from the garbage cans, pot holes, lights and even the parking meters. I personally don't believe the meter agreement was really a good idea, but after Tom spent the time talking about how the deal could prove to be a lot better than most people think, I was starting to come around.

We talked about his background and growing up in the area, but what finally sealed the deal for us was the fact that he has some "skin" in this election. He has three children that all attend public schools and we thought that was a completely different kind of politician that is willing to put himself and his family on the line and that he believed firmly that he could make a difference ... we believe he will.

The appointment to take over the current alderman's soon to be empty seat should be filled by this man who has real passion and desire to do the job and willing to make the scarifies needed to do so.

Tom Caravette has our endorsement and our votes for alderman of the 38th ward. I know he will do well and make us all proud that we voted for him.

Sincerely,

/~ V.

To ~'hom It May Concern:

I am writing this letter of recommendation in support of Tom Caravette's nomination for ss" Ward Alderman.

I have had the pleasure of being both a business associate and a friend to Tom Caravette for over fifteen years. During that period I worked closely with Tom on various real estate projects. As a result, I have seen Tom in action as a business person as well as a father, friend and neighbor. Accordingly, I am writing this because it is my sincere belief that he would be an excellent alderman.

In and out of his business environment, Tom conducts himself with integrity. Tom can be counted on not just to work hard, but to represent the ward III a positive light. He is a loyal, honest, considerate, and supportive individual who has the ability to see and understand things from another person's perspective. He is a direct communicator and knows how to raise and discuss issues and problems in a non-threatemng manner. He has a strong commitment to family, friends and neighbors. All in all, I would have to say that Tom is a fine, well-balanced person with an abundance of positive qualities.

For these reasons, I have no hesitation in recommending Tom as the next 38th Ward

Alderman. '
