SHORT NOTES ON CURRENT NEWS:

AFTO: This is a significant policy on Automobile Freight Train Operator to increase the rail
share of automobile traffic from the existing 3-4% to 30% in the next five years. Aimed
at attracting private investment in high capacity auto carriers, the scheme has come into
effect from 19th July 2010. this sis for the first time that under this policy, private
companies are permitted to use advantage of rail transport to market railway services to
end-users in the automobile sector. The policy shall facilitate bulk movement of
automobile traffic by rail from production hubs to consumption centre.

SFTO: This is a policy formulated on Special Freight Train Operator Scheme, effective from 31 st
May 2010. This will provide an opportunity to private investors to use advantage of rail
transport to market train services to end users.
