In the last few years, the sovereignty of the nation-satehas been constantly questioned by
globalization. The states are facing different external pressures, which has limited their
capacity tomanoeuvre, specially in the control of over the distribution of goods and services
within their boundaries. This reality has come true due to the principal changes in the
technology, where millions of persons are capable of obtaining, what before was impossible to
obtain, such as the ͞unrestricted͟access to information and the international markets.

As countries continue to face globalization, they are open to a constant erosion of their
authority and sovereignty, which has become particularly disturbing for some countries that
have turned into consumers. Some examples are the Post-Soviet Russia in the 1990͛s, post-
Mao China after 1976, and post-Gaullist France after the 1970͛s. Nowadays, China is facing a
crossroads in its socio-political direction on how to continue with capitalist market within a
communist state.

In the light of these events, this paper seeks to understand the different problems that the
Chinese state face in the Era of Globalization, where countries have become part of a states-
system.Furthermore, the paper analyses the impact of globalization in national politics, more
specifically the governments͛ reform in health, education and welfare and the impact on
national identity. Finally, it seeks to understand the reason and context of government
administrative reforms, national identity and the dilemmas in government spending.

To this end, the selected bibliography facilitates the understanding of the impact of
globalization in the governance of China.
