Deductions from the tank sketch:
2. The datum of measurement is 0.08m from the tank bottom (for the transmitters).
3. The maximum height attainable by liquid in the tank (i.e. the maximum tank level) is 1.42m from the tank bottom
since there is an overflow line 0.14m from the top of the tank.
4. The sight glass is tapped off a bridle (of diameter 0.04m) 0.08m from the top and bottom of the tank. Thus the
effective length of the bridle is 1.40m (1.56m – 0.08m – 0.08m = 1.40m).
5. The exact length of the graduated portion of the sight glass is 1.33m set equidistance from the top and bottom of the
tank.
Using the length of the bridle as the maximum height of liquid, the differential pressure range of the transmitters can be
calculated as follows:
Δp = ρh g
Conclusion:
Since the configured range of the port aft diesel oil break tank level transmitters 60-LZT-001 & 60-LIT-002 is 0 – 0.1183 bar,
this should be adopted as the new range to be set on the starboard aft diesel oil break tank level transmitters 60-LZT-003 &
60-LIT-004.
