Dear colleagues,

We are a Turkish primary

school (ATAM PRIMARY SCHOOL)
located in Ankara, the capital city of
Turkey. The age group of our school
is between 6 - 14. We are a public
school and have 600 students with
30 teachers.
Our country has the ful l
privileges for the European Union
Lifelong Learning and Youth in Action
Programmes since 2004. We are the
7th biggest programme country within
33, in terms of grant amounts and
projects supported. We also want to acher
ject team and Headte
create a valuable Comenius Our Pro
international partnership with schools
like yours. As we are aware of the deadline for 2011 applications, we think it is the right time
to start for such a collaboration with you, if you accept.
All partnerships start with sharing some ideas. So as a starting point we are offering
you our project idea, knowing that we can move further and alter things based on our
discussions.
As to your knowledge Anatolia is one of the cradles of civilizations, being home to the
first village and town communities dating back to 10.000 years. Ankara, our city, is located at
the heart of this rich history. Çatalhoyuk in Konya (7500 B.C), Hattusas in Çorum (Hittites,
1500 B.C), Gordion in Polatlı (Phyrigians, 900 B.C), Cappadocia (Early Christians, 300 A.D)
are just examples of this fascinatingly rich history (not to mention Greek, Roman and
Ottomans). Besides its easy reach to historical sitek, Ankara is a modern city imbued with
the spirit of modernity and its rich history.
So within this rich historical context, we thought it would be a great idea, to run a
project about sharing each others history. ’A walk through history’ is the name of we propose
for this project. By the help of this Project we’re planning to make our teachers and students
more sophisticated and conscious of history. The methodology to be used
to create an interactive learning environment, and how to involve the
kids more is to be discussed later if you decide to join us.
If you want to be our partners, please contact us urgently, keeping the
application deadline in mind (21 February 2011).
You can find the location of our school, as well as the historical sites that
we have mentioned above in this map.
