Our group tested materials using a HRC test, which has a higher load than
HRb testing and as stated in the lab manual is typically used for “Steel, hard cast
irons, case hardened steel and other materials harder than 100 HRB.” The other
half of the class tested materials using HRB testing. After all of the data was
recorded, the data was shared. Shown below in Table ###.

Table 1: HRB Tabulated Results.

HRB Test
Material Test 1Test 2Test 3Test 4 Average
Brass 87.7 ±1.0 (078780) 87.6 87.9 87.5 - 87.7
Brass B63-65 63.3 61.6 64.6 - 63.2
SS 304L 65 56.4 49.8 56.5 56.9
Brass 87.5 87.6 87.9 87.8 - 87.8
6061-T6 50.3 52.7 53.2 - 52.1
3OT 58.1 ± 1.0 60.1 60.9 61.7 - 60.9
Brass 360 69.3 69.7 69 - 69.3

It is helpful to represent the recorded data graphically. All trials for each material
were averaged, as shown in Table 1, the averages were than graphed by material.
The graphical results can be seen in Figure 1.

Figure 1: Graphical HRB results.

The HRC results were also tabulated and averaged for each material shown below in
Table ###.

Table 2: HRC tabulated results.

Again the results will be graphically represented to quickly analyze the results of
the HRC testing. The results can be seen graphically below in Figure ###.
