Harmful effects on the

respiratory system

Nicotine
cCauses addiction.
cCauses Illness such as bronchitis, throat cancer and lung
cancer.

Tobacco tar
cBlackens the lungs and cause them less efficient.
cDamage alveolus cells.
cCauses lung cancer.

Acid
cCorrodes lung cells.
cCauses illness such as coughing, asthma, bronchitis.

Carcinogen
cStimulates the growth of cancer cells, causing lung cancer
and throat cancer.

Acidic gas from factories

cDamage breathing channel and lungs.

Vehicle fumes
cReduce the ability of blood to transport oxygen and cause
death due to severe cases.

Haze
cDamages lungs.

Burning of plastic materials

cCorrodes the breathing channel.

Diseases affecting the

respiratory system

Emphysema
|cIt happens as a result of abnormal growth in the cells that
lines the tiny air channels in the lungs causing these
channels to become blocked.
|cThis growth causes carbon dioxide trapped in alveolus and
cause the alveolus to burst.
|cBursting of the alveolus cannot be repaired.

Bronchitis
|cBronchitis is inflammation of the epithelium (cell layer) of
the bronchus caused by fine particles that float in the air
that are mostly found in cigarette smoke.

[ung cancer
|cCancerous lung cells are unusual cell growths in the lungs.
|cCarcinogen, the chemical substance found in cigarettes, is
the main cause of the lung cancer.

Asthma
|cAsthma is a type of disease caused by the inflammation of
the breathing channel.
|cThe breathing channel of a patient suddenly becomes
narrow.
|cAsthma may caused by dust (air pollutant) , smoking or
cigarette smoke.

Improving the quality of air

|c·se air cleaning system to dissolve poisonous toxic gases

like sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide in water before
it was released to the atmosphere.
|cStop Smoking to prevent the release cigarette smoke in
the air.
|cInstall catalyst convertors on vehicle exhaust to reduce the
release of dangerous gases like carbon monoxide.
|cInstall electrostatic precipitators on factory chimney to
remove pollutant.
