The accents! The smoldering glances! There's a reason movie versions of classic novels are so much more enthralling than an English lit seminar. For proof, just feast thine eyes upon hottie Michael Fassbender, who stars opposite Mia Wasikowska in Jane Eyre.
a 2 Goddess Gowns
Show off your shoulders la Olivia Wilde ... and mortals are bound to bow at your feet. (Hint: A few swipes of bronzing powder will add to your heavenly glow.)
The next time you and your guy hang out, skip the mojo-killing food coma and head outside. A recent survey found that more than 40 percent of dudes prefer an action-packed date, like hiking, over the same-old dinner routine.

There's a party in full cake-and-punch mode in the banquet room, with a dozen young giggling girb whose decibel level would shatter glass if they knew who is sitting a few feet away. The always professional star loves her fans, but sometimes, even for an actress and singer who manages to get words like gratefi.tl into eve1}'other sentence, she needs to take an afternoon just to chill. "This is hard work," she says with a huge smile on her face to let us know she's not complaining. "Sixteen-hour days, working weekends. \Vhen I get a day off, I take it easy." Today's casual wardrobe and makeup-free face certainly communicate a me-time vibe, Her hair is pulled back in a ponytail, bangs slightly patted. The only break she took from professional acting gi.gswas during high school-where, naturally, she starred in the school play and the musical. Still, she insists she wasn't a nerd. '1 wasn't a goody-goody; 1loved to have fun." She laughs as she tells the story of her andsorne friends raiding her parents' liquor cabinet and mixing vodka drinks. "I had to refill the vodka bottle with water and stick it back in the freezer. Well, it was kind of obvious what rd done, because the water froze. 1 said to my parents, 'I don't know ... .The vodka must have frozen." Then, in a very Bachel-like way, she shudders while talling about the pressures high-school kids endure. "I never did drugs. I'm proud of that. Acting always came first. 1was lucky, because I reallv believed in who I was." She needed that self-confidence when it seemed like every girl at Tenafly High School was getting a nose job. "Of course, I thought about it," says Lea, whose proud, defined schnoz has become a winning trait ... and a sign of inner and outer beauty. "I'm sooo thankful 1 didn't. There were so many people in my school who, even if they had the tiniest hump, would be like 'Do you see it?' 1 would be like 'I can't." As soon as high school was over, Lea went back to Broadway, scoring a leading role in Spring Awakening, a rock musical about 19th-centUlY kids exploring their sexuality.

After two years with the award-winning show, the then 22-year-old came to Los Angeles to do a four-week run of Miserahles (she played Eponine this time) at the Hollywood Bowl. Afterward, she figmed she would stay an extra month or two to do some auditions. "1 knew 1wasn't going to end up on a Disney half-hour show 1 mean, look at me! 1 don't look like those girls," she says. "I just wanted to do a guest spot, like on Grey's Anatomy."
us
Obviously, she did better than a cameo. Lea heard that Fox was producing a show about a glee club, and she and close friend J erma U shkowitz (they'd met as kids on Broadway) decided to audition. Len landed Rachel, and Jenna scored the role of Tina. "Oh, my God. We shot the pilot. I went home to New York, where Jenna was staying with me. Then 1 got
the e-mail from the creator, Ryan Murphy, saying we got picked up for 13 episodes," Lea says, gushing as if it had just happened yesterday [enna will never forget that moment 'vVe were performing at a charity event over Christmas, and he e-mailed from Bali or something," she tells us during a phone interview. "We were just screaming together." After the pilot aired, pad of Lea's casting tape rnade its way onto YouTube, and it became even more clearwhy she stood out. In the middle of her song, the piano player screwed. up, and Lea stopped him and told him to start again. Then, during her monologue, a few people laughed, and she playfully told them it was a serious pi.ece and that they should be CIY~ ing, not laughing. Looking back, she thinks some of the things she did in the audition helped shape her character. To say that Glee has changed Lea's life would be an understatement; it's turned her into an insta-celebrity She's sung at the White House, performed at the Tonys, and been nominated for a Golden Globe. But with the spotlight also comes pressure. 'Tmin a position where everything I do can be looked at with a magnifying glass," she shrugs, Take the recent GQ cover and photo spread that features Lea in panties, kneesocks, and heels, with fellow cast member Cory Monteith's hand on her ass (his other hand was on the backside of the equally sexily dressed Gleek Dianna Agron). W11en it hit newsstands, prudish gossip columnists and bloggers squealed as if their viTgi.n eyes were buming. Lea smiles and repeats the same line she says anytime she's asked about it: "I WdS with two of my best friends, we had a great time, and Terry Richardson L~ amazing photographer." She's choosan ing her word .. wisely, because she has no de sire to have all s that negative attention on her again. She does add that the media kerfuflle surprised her, became "people forget that we are in om 20s and want to have a good time."

"My husband and I stayed in a supernice historic hotel during a trip together. One night, we were feeling horny, so we started going at it. But in the middle of the action, Iheard a huge ripping noise. Irolled over to see what had happened and was horrified: We'd managed to tear the vintage (and very expensivelookingl bedsheet. We hid the sheet from housekeeping, hal} ing they wouldn't notice ....but when we saw an odd charge on our bill, we knew they had."

Playing Dirty
"I was at the Laundromat and had to run an errand. Since my clothes had about a half hour to go in the dryer, I left them there. When I got back 20 minutes later, someone had taken my clothes out midcycle (the machines didn't lock when they were in use), thrown them on top of the dryer, and put in their own! Luckily,

"I live in a house with two roommates, so when my guy comes over, we'll do our thing up in my room. One night, I accidentally left my door cracked open, I woke up in the morning to my dog, who had pushed his way into the room, sniffing around with a condom from the night before in his mouth. As I got up, he ran out the door and down the stairs. I wrapped myself in a sheet and tore after him ... but didn't catch him before he jumped into my roomie's lap, I screamed, 'Close your eyes!' and tried to grab the dog, but she saw anyway and was so grossed out."

Singled Out
"One evening, I was out with friends, including a few guys I hadn't seen in a while. The bar was packed, the music was loud, and everyone was having fun. At one point, the guys asked me about my dating life, and I said I was single but not looking for a relationship, which I practically had to yell over the music. As the last song stopped, I jokingly shouted, 'Actually, I prefer to have sex with random strangers!' It was so loud that everyone in the bar turned toward me, and all the guys were grinning from ear to ear. I got a lot of date requests that night." .....cfliara,30

Bending the Law
"I was out one night and saw this really hot girl. She was definitely out of my league, but I wanted to try my luck anyway, so I walked over and struck up a conversation. To seem more appealing, I told her I worked at a law firm downtown, even though it was a lie..When I said that, her eyes got big, and she asked which one. Thinking I had impressed her, I made up some prestigious-sounding name ..She said, Weird, I've never heard of it. Iwork at a firm here too. Where exactly is your office?' A Close Shave
"My roommate was such a mooch. Since we shared a bathroom, I constantly caught him using my face wash and shaving cream and even stealing my razors. I was so fed up that one night, I waited until he was asleep, snuck into his room, and sprayed my shaving cream on his pillow. I did it in a U shape around his head so when he eventually rolled around, he'd get it all over his face. him.
A guy's brain can handle one task at a time, so if he's ignoring you, he's hyperiocused on something else, like that video game he's playing, When one thing is in his head, nothing else exists. (This is also the reason he interrupts when you're talking.) When he's with his friends, a switch flips-he's in bro mode, which means playing rough and joking around with the guys. If he's teasing you too, rts because he wants you to feel included. His solution to any problem? Rip it off like a Band·Aid. So when you're ranting about how your coworker really pissed you off, he'll gloss over the comforting "There, there" and Jump right to the next logical step: how to solve it. Guys live in the day-to-day, so plans that need to be made months-or even weeks-in advance go straight to the back burner. It's not that he's trying to weasel out of doing prep work; he's just too focused on what you two are doing in five minutes to worry about the long-term.
He teases you whenbis friends are around. He'sunsym .. pathetic about your crappy day. Hemaleesno elfort to help plan your vacation.

No, says CND cofounder Jan Arnold. It gets a bad rap for drying out nails, but since it gets rid of polish faster (with less product) than nonacetone, it's still your best option. To cut nail contact time more, soak a cotton pad with remover and rest it on tips for two seconds to soften the polish before swiping off.

THE PREP
File your nails to a rounded edge, apply a base coat, and pick two polish hues: a bright or dark plus a metallic (like Iegan's maroon and gold combo),
THE TECHNIQUE
Paintnailswith two coats of the bright or dark polish, ~irst swiping the brush down the center then moving to the side.s, A thinner edge of paint prevents cutidestains.
Next,dipafine'_ tipped paintbrush (a pointy eyeliner brush also works) into the other lacquer, and create a half moon-shaped arc that starts at the base of one side, extends about a quarter of the way up the nail, and finishes atthe base of the opposite side.
Fillin the space underneath each arc using the same polish and its regular brush (not the finetipped one). Apply two thin coats for more impact. Then amp up the shine and protect, your work from chipping by applying a layer of top coat to each nail.
Finally, dean up any skin smudges with the fine-tipped brush (skip cotton swabs, as the tiny fibers act like magnets, sti.cking to the damp paint), dipping it into polish remover and wipin.g it across stains until they disappear.

Smudges
Be sure your top coat is labeled quick dry. The ingredients in these formulas fuse the polish layers together (especially important for the moon area, which is made up offour layers of paint).
