structure.
• Statement of function of bridge and the size and type of
variable actions used
• Calculations of permanent actions (self weight)

5. Analysis of the effects of these actions on the structure.
• Description of load cases taken
• Determination of bending moment, shear force, axial load
as appropriate for all structural members

• Design of foundations, either load bearing slab or piles
• Dimensions or details of other elements e.g. parapets
