Question: Write a short note on Club of Rome.

Answer: The Club of Rome is a global think tank that deals with a variety of
international political issues. Founded in 1968 at David Rockefeller’s estate in
Bellagio, Italy, the CoR describes itself as "a group of world citizens, sharing a
common concern for the future of humanity." It consists of current and former
Heads of State, UN bureaucrats, high-level politicians and government officials,
diplomats, scientists, economists, and business leaders from around the globe.
Since 1 July 2008, the organization has its headquarters in Winterthur,
Switzerland. The club states that its mission is "to act as a global catalyst for
change through the identification and analysis of the crucial problems facing
humanity and the communication of such problems to the most important
public and private decision makers as well as to the general public." It raised
considerable public attention in 1972 with its report “The Limits to Growth”.
The report is basically a graphical depiction of parameters such as –

1. Population,
2. Food per capita,
3. Resources,
4. Industrial output per capita, and
5. Pollution over time in years to indicate the future of humanity in the
context of rapid technological growth and its consequent effect of severe
environmental degradation.

From the graphical display below we can easily understand the future of
mankind. It shows a steady growth of environmental pollution and a similar
steady fall in natural resources implying that the human civilization has a
bleak future. Depletion of natural and mineral resources and the rise of
pollution are the principal factors that can lead to a world which might not be
favorable to human existence.
