Modern Gadgets- incomplete script- my edition

Good morning to the panel of honourable adjudicators, teachers, and friends. On this fine
morning, Gadgets of the Century would be the topic of my choice.

Who in this world can’t live without technology of the 21st century? People who are like 70,
maybe. Our most essential item is most probably, hand phones. Even people in the village
use hand phones as well as other devices. Obviously, we need the aid of technology to
make hand phones to help us live our lives.

Hand phones, cell phones, whatever people call it, the purpose of hand phones are to
communicate with people who are far away, beyond shouting distance. Models of hand
phones change every time. And more applications are added as new technological items
and softwares are introduced. There are several successful brands in the hand phones
business. Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, and Motorola are normal among youngsters,
even four year olds! Sony Ericsson is one of the best brands for high quality pictures and
sound. Who would ignore that?

As for me, besides hand phones, the internet is a great part of my entertainment life.
Students nowadays get bored easily if they don’t get to surf the internet. Even with hundreds
of channels on the TV, it is not the same with the unlimited information on the internet.
Students like me, join networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, Hi5, and Friendster. There,
we can chat with our friends online like we do on Yahoo! Messenger and MSN’s Windows
Live Messenger. Besides networking sites, we get to post what we are doing on Twitter and
check on what our favourite stars are doing. Blogging is an option for people who prefer
telling others what they did or experienced in posts. Popular blogging sites are Wordpress,
BlogSpot, and Live Journal. Yahoo! added a chat box at our inbox. This helps us to chat with
our buddies while we check our emails.

Music is an important way to express ourselves and have fun. There are many ways of
playing music. I prefer small devices that can fit the pocket of my jeans. Disk players were
popular in the 90s. The 21st century offers smaller devices like the MP3, MP4, MP5 and so
on. iPods are quite popular these days. There is the iPod Nano which the MP4 took its
appearance. The iPod Shuffle is the smallest of the iPod range and least famous. The iPod
was made by Apple, a company of modern marvels such as laptops and PCs. These music
players come in handy while us students are on the go and still have something to keep us
entertained.

First it was called thumbdrive. Then it was pendrive. Pendrives comes in various shapes and
sizes. What matters is the capacity. The smallest capacity for a pendrive is 1 gigabyte. I’m
not sure of the largest capacity, only those who really cares of the details does. Pendrives
are devices that enable us to store files and information. We also can store movies in them.
Pendrives were invented to be the substitute to the CD and diskette. Pendrives come in
handy for students who need to make a computerised presentation.

Computers went from huge and bulky to flat and sleek. Computers can be from Dell, Acer,
HP and the most popular for its terrific sound system and graphic, Apple. Without computers,
how can there be laptops? Impossible, I guess. Some people call computers PCs or
desktops. Without the invention of computers, USB ports wouldn’t be invented. Our lives
would have been shattered if computers were not invented.
Multitasking is quite normal these days for teenagers when it comes to technology and its
wonderful gadgets. While doing an assignment, I usually listen to music and text message
my friends. Multitasking is just a piece of cake nowadays among students. We’re doing an
assignment, listening to music, chatting and text messaging our buddies is quite normal for
us kids of the modern world. Multitasking helps us to do many things and helps us reduce
wasting time.

Besides computers and music players, another thing that students favours are games. We
get to play games with PlayStations, hand phones and computers. There is a list of popular
games which might take a long time if I’m going to tell about all of them. I’m going to tell
some of my favourites. Guitar Hero is one of the best games for guitar maniacs. With
melodious guitar solos like the one in November Rain by Slash of Guns N Roses, one of the
guitar legends. War Craft is popular among the males. Even I don’t know what’s so great
about it. What I know, students like it. Dance Dance Revolution gets you pumped up with
aerobic moves. This game breaks up a sweat if you do it for hours. Dance Dance Revolution
is a great way to burn up all those calories! Who says games are a waste of time?

These days, everybody needs the help of the modern marvels. Young and old, we humans
invent and upgrade these gadgets for our daily use. No matter what we do, we have to use
them and it will become ‘ancient’ to the future generation. We live our lives to the fullest,
leaving memories and the ‘ancient’ world of the 20th century. I would like to thank you all for
