Adjectives – Adjectives are describing words. Adjectives modify nouns.

Adjectives are added to nouns


to state what kind, what color, which one or how many. Adjectives are said to modify nouns and are
necessary to make the meanings of the sentences clearer or more exact.

1. Follow the yellow cab. (“yellow” modifies the noun “cab”)


2. Craig caught another large bass. (“large” modifies the noun “bass”)
3. The principal words should be in bold. (“principal” modifies “words”)
4. The rusty nail he stood in was the cause of the infection. (“rusty” modifies “nail”)
5. Please, put the old documents on the shredder. (“old” modifies ‘documents”)
6. There is an essential matter we need to discuss. (“essential” modifies “matter”)
7. Peter guessed the right number. (“right” modifies “number”)
8. Gladys is a rich woman. (“rich” modifies “woman”)
9. The small boat foundered on the wine dark sea. (“small” modifies “boat” and “wine
dark” modifies “sea”)
10. The back room was filled with large, yellow rain boots. (“large, yellow” modify boots.)

Adverbs - An adverb can modify a verb, an adjective, another adverb, a phrase, or a clause. An adverb
indicates manner, time, place, cause, or degree and answers questions such as "how," "when," "where,"
"how much".

Comparative are adjectives that compare two objects. Superlatives compare more than two.
