 Project Calculations
In the Cielo Home Owners Association pool facility a Hybrid Pump
10 horsepower Water Cobra pump replaced a 10 horsepower pump
using a Marathon motor in an Olympic sized pool.

This project was approved for an energy efficiency incentive by San

Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), the local energy utility supplier.
The power consumption of the old pump and the new Hybrid Pump
was monitored for a period of 7 days using a SDG&E supplied Hobo
Data logger. The Hobo Data logger is a device used to measure and
record the power consumption of the pump. Detailed measurements
and calculations are provided in the table below.

Verification
The following two graphs show the measured real time consumption of the
baseline (old) pump and Hybrid Pump over a 7 day period. In this commercial
application the pumps run 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week. The Hybrid Pump
saved significant amounts of energy with a slight increase in the flow rate of
the pump! SDG&E supplied Hobo Data Loggers were used to measure, record
and verify the before and after amp draw (power consumption) of the two
pumps as plotted below.
