Operational Amplifier Applications
Prob.1: For the shown logarithmic amplifier in Fig. 1, find the output
voltage Vout in terms of Vs and the circuit parameters. (Q1 and Q2 are
matched).

Fig.1

Prob.2: For the exponential amplifier shown in Fig. 2, find the output
voltage Vout.

Fig.2
Prob.3: A square root circuit is shown in Fig. 3. Find the relation between
the output and the input. What is the necessity of the diode?

Fig.3

Prob.4: An Exponential converter is shown in Fig. 4. The output Vout is an

exponential function of the input Vs. The voltage Vs can be either +ve or –ve,
while the reference voltage VR must always be +ve. What will be the relation
between Vout and Vs? What will be the sign of the Vout for +ve and –ve Vs?

Fig.4
Prob.5: An asymmetrical SQW generator is shown below, where Vp is a constant D.C.
voltage of 2 V. The Zener diodes are assumed ideal with Vz = 6 V.
Find the frequency of the free running circuit and sketch the output waveform.

Fig.5

Prob.6: A voltage Controlled SQW generator (VCO) is shown in Fig.2 .The frequency of
the oscillator is controlled by a multiplier with an input D.C. Voltage Vref .
(i) Sketch the output waveform and derive an expression for the output frequency as
a function of Vref .
(ii) What are the advantages and disadvantages of this VCO compared with that given
in the lecture?
