Magnaflux Calibration Testing

Purpose: The Magnaflux calibration test is for testing the accuracy and precision of the
on board current ammeter (relative) in comparison to actual values. This is accomplished
by the use of measuring the IR (voltage) drop across a known shunt resistor placed in
series with the power circuit which corresponds to an RMS.

Procedure:

Considerations for accurate test results:

1) A clean, “New-Axle” must be placed on the machine to perform testing.

2) A Clean, “New” set of “Copper Contact Pads” must be installed prior to testing.
3) Perform appropriate LOTO procedures to de-energize the state of the equipment.

Start with the Headstock

4) Disconnect the “Positive” end of the “Headstock” power leads at the terminals.
5) Insert the “B-1000-25 Shunt Resistor” in “Series” with the “Axle” (4/0 Jumpers)
6) Make sure all connections are clean, tightened and secure.

Ensure that all exposed energized metal parts are insulated from the equipment
frame to prevent a short circuit flashover during testing: Use an insulating
rubber mat to isolate the B-1000-25 Shunt Resistor and its connections.

7) Connect the “Gould-Bass DTM-25A Digital Test Meter” to the setscrew

terminals on the “B-1000-25 Shunt Resistor” and connect an additional “DMM”
capable of measuring Min/Max/Avg AC+DC component ripple voltages for
milli-volt monitoring to the setscrew terminals as well.
8) Turn on the Magnaflux.
9) Set-up for a Current Headshot in the lowest
