Unit: Bowling

Targeted Learning Result: The students will accomplish G2, I1, and I2 of the physical education
learning results.
Grade Level: 9-12 (adaptive students)
Equipment: 20 bowling pins, ramp, 2 plastic bowling balls
Class Objective: The students will demonstrate their strength by pushing a bowling ball towards
the pins set up using hand-eye coordination.

Bowling Rules: Each player/student gets two chances of knocking all ten pins down by rolling a
ball toward the pins. If a player gets all ten down on the first attempt it is a strike. If a player gets
all the pins down in two attempts it is a spare. Each pin knocked down is worth one point. The
higher the score received, the better score that player has. The highest score at the end of each
game wins. In an official game the players get ten rounds in which to bowl; with each round
providing two chances to bowl. However, the adaptive students do not keep score.

Since this lesson was taught to adaptive students, I made use of a ramp to allow the students in a
wheelchair to push the bowling ball down the ramp. Also, a student who needed assistance in
walking had a peer tutor support her as she walked to the lane to bowl.
