    Multiplexing allows multiple signals or information streams to be transmitted simultaneously over a single medium. It is used when the transmission medium has a higher bandwidth than the individual signals, allowing multiple lower bandwidth signals to be carried concurrently.     Q1. In which situation multiplexing is used? Explain with the help of working
    structure. (10 Marks)
    Multiplexing is sending multiple signals or streams of information on a carrier at the
    same time in the form of a single, complex signal and then recovering the separate
    signals at the receiving end.

    It is used in situations where the transmitting media is having higher bandwidth, but
    the signals have lower bandwidth. It is possible of sending number of signals
    concurrently. Multiplexing can be used to achieve the following:

    • For long-haul communication with the coaxial cable, microwave and


    optical fiber
    • To send a large number of signals simultaneously
    • To reduce the cost of transmission
    • To make effective use of the available bandwidth

    Q2. XYZ Company has two offices in Multan. Each office has 40 systems.
    Network administrator want to connect both offices, as for as he has no budget
    issues. Answer the following questions.
    1) Which cable is suitable for networking? Give
    reasons
    An optical fiber cable is a cable containing one or more optical fibers would be
    best option if budget is no issue.

    2) Which network Topology will be used with in the


    office and why?
    Star Topology should be used. More reliable, compared to the other topologies
    like bus, a Star network requires more cable, but a failure in any one cable will
    only take down one computer and not the entire LAN infrastructure.
    3) Which network Topology will be used for
    connecting two offices and why?
    Dark core fiber end to end connectivity or more popular choice would be Wireless
    Topology.

    Dark core fiber sed when referring to the potential network capacity of
    telecommunication infrastructure, but now also refers to the increasingly common
    practice of leasing fibre optic cables from a network service provider.

    Wireless technology uses radio signals to communicate so there is no cabling


    required. Wireless solutions are gaining popularity and becoming more affordable.
    Wireless equipment consists of a wireless adapter installed in each computer.

    4) Which network device will be used to connect


    two offices?

    The fiber-modem could be used to coverts digital data into pulses of light then
    transmits over the optical fiber. This mechanism will extend the optical fiber across
    several kilometers because delays on optical fiber are very low and bandwidth is very
    high.
