1. Trouble Description

When an HSDPA users goes into a zone with bad RF levels (RSCP, ECIO, etc) the speed of the

connection goes down (low speed). When the user moves to a zone with good RF levels, the speed is

still with low levels, it seems to be abnormal.

2 Trouble Analysis

After checking the RNC CDT, it can be found, in the following pink circle, the speed seems to be

abnormal, the bandwidth allocated by NODEB is not limited and there is enough data in RNC RLC buffer,

in theory, the throughput should go up.

According the whole changing situation, at the beginning, the throughput could reach 1MBPS in good RF

level, and then the throughput dropped because of bad RF level, when RF recovered, the throughput

didn’t recover quickly, but there is a trend of going up as following in detail.

The resource allocated to the user is not limited, so it is doubt that some flow control switch is effective.

After checking the RNC configuration file, we found the flow control base on RLC packet lost is opened.

So it is understandable the throughput is limited, when UE gone to bad RF level, there should be RLC

packets loss because of RF reason, so the flow control worked.

After closing the switch, the problem disappeared; it became normal, as an example as following.

3 Conclusion

The throughput is limited by HSDPA flow control switch, which lead to the speed recover slowly, it is

recommended to close it.
