Fill-In the Dialogue

Objective: Develop simple dialogue and writing skills

Students: Eighth and ninth grade students
Description: I had the students work in pairs and gave them each a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon with the
dialogue erased (see next page). I asked them to look at the pictures, come up with their own stories, and
fill in new dialogue. I had four different cartoons. I tried to find cartoons with a lot of action that had a
clear story line. This would work with any cartoon, but Calvin and Hobbes is simply all I had on hand.
The students really enjoyed this lesson, and they came up with some pretty cute stuff..
