ork-life balance is NOT about having more leisure time. It begins with determining
who we are (at work and in our family life), what we do (achieving personal and
corporate goals), and what we want (from our work and our non-work pursuits) rather
than demanding more time away from work. It is not about working less hours - it is achieving
your personal and corporate goals and enjoying your life in a sustainable way.
3. Visualize your own balanced life in terms of roles and goals, not time or activities as
most people do.
4. Change the stories you are telling yourself about your suffering from lack of work-life
balance. There are two types of stories – river stories or rut stories. Change your stories
and you will change your life.
5. Install a family enrichment program (FEP) as the keystone for maintaining your work-life
balance. Try the “instant happiness exercise” with your family and see what happens.
6. Get a learning partner (your spouse is the best candidate) and use the feedforward process
to make things happen.
7. Amplify success – hold quarterly meetings to share best practices and successes with
friends, colleagues and neighbours.
