LUXURY house prices in Paris surged by 22 per cent in a year, rivalling the performance of the most dynamic cities of Asia, says a new Knight Frank index that tracks the performance of prime real estate in 15 cities across Europe, Asia and America. Knight Frank reckons property prices in Paris were driven primarily by supply constraints and growing interest from overseas buyers. Moscows prime market recorded the weakest performance, with prices down 8.0 pwer cent in the year to March. London, with a rise of 8.6 per cent and level with Singapore, holds sixth place in the league table. But London has broken through the 6,000 per sq ft level, with the Candy brothers development of One Hyde Park West, in Knightsbridge, in the past year. One-bedroom flats in the scheme cost around 6 million. And Liam Bailey, head of residential research at Knight Frank, predicts that the 10,000 per sq ft price level will be reached in this decade, by 2020. My view is that this wont happen in Asia the first market to break this barrier will be London, he said. Mr Bailey added that, a year ago, there was a clear continental divide in the worlds prime property markets: Asian cities held top rankings for price inflation, with Europe and the US lagging way behind.
