As the pre-eminent organization working to promote the welfare of the taxi drivers and the taxi industry in Toronto,

the ItaxiWorkers Association has identified the Ambassador taxicab licence policy as the most noxious element. To this end we are resolved to find an amicable and agreeable solution acceptable to all parties. We acknowledge you as a stalwart in the taxi industry and as such, we share a lot in common. There are members of our organization who are also members of your company, labouring under the Ambassador policy, which from all accounts is disfunctional. Ambassador 778 is a typical example of why this policy has failed. He was recently attacked in an attempted robbery and under this restrictive regime he is unable to earn a living. The policy prohibits him, under any circumstances, to have an alternative driver. This will have a tremendous adverse affect on the quality of his family's life. You may ask - how does this impact you? As a brokerage, there are scores of Ambassador taxicab operators working under your umbrella. In order to provide excellent service to the public, it's imperative to have drivers who are healthy, reliable and stress free. This is difficult to accomplish on the part of the driver when he is the sole operator, bearing the brunt of all the expenses, knowing he has no other driver to spare him should he become ill. This stress reduces the productivity you require of your drivers, to maintain the excellent image of your company. We, the ItaxiWorkers Association, are soliciting donations to enable us to continue the struggle to eradicate the mistakes inherent in this policy. We are working on several fronts, both politically and legally; but just as it 'takes a village to raise a child', it will take the co-operation and will of all parties involved to produce a healthy and prosperous taxi industry in which all participants will benefit. To this end, we are respectfully requesting a donation from your company, as one of the progressive leaders in this industry, to assist in moving these necessary reforms forward.
