DAIRY CONSULTING

Introduction We are living in a decade of increasing food prices and world over is facing a huge supply shortfall of food grains and food products. Emerging economies have been hit by surging inflation and many countries are now facing serious concerns of stagflation. India, a nation which considered itself self-sufficient in its milk production after Operation Flood is now facing a looming threat of huge shortfalls. Domestic demand for milk is growing at about six million tonnes per year, whereas annual incremental production over the last ten years has been about 3.5 million tonnes per year. In India, we follow the disaggregated model for milk production without the use of scientific techniques. Amul, the biggest player in the sector works in a co-operative model which is successful through its efficient collection and distribution system. Gowardhan, is the single largest player in the sector in milk production which is catering to huge demands in the Western part of the country. But as such, there is no single player involved at a high level in milk production to supply the increasing demands of a nation growing at over 8% annually. The co-operative model was formed at a time when tapping funds in the sector was next to impossible. Project Proposal
