Ladderline feed for your antenna the easy way by ZS1JHG

First obtain Ladderline spreaders from http://www.instantladderline.co.za/home.html (These spreaders are highly recommended and make the job much easier and quicker.) Purchase some 1.5mm pvc stranded house wire which is about 3.3mm in diameter a nice tight fit. The recommended length of ladderline is 30ft (9.14m) for an easier match by the Antenna matcher (ATU).However a length from the antenna to your ATU will work fine with wide impedance matching ATU`s. To make the ladderline attach the two ends to a gate or fence spaced apart close to the spreader width of 4.25inches or 83mm , the other end can be clamped in a vice or Workmate again spaced The width of your spreaders in my case 83mm (4.25inches). To check your line impedance with the Instant Ladderline see the handy chart on the Website. Make up a spacer suggest about 30 to 50 mm and clip on your spreaders , note reduce to about 20mm for bends .

Now to make up the centre insulator/support. Use a piece of acrylic about 120mm wide by 150mm Long. Drill holes at the top and bottom for the tie to halyard and the tension /support line. Holes spaced 83mm for the antenna legs and lower down again for the stainless steel bolts joining the antenna legs ring connectors to the ladderline ring connectors. At the bottom holes for cable ties to secure the ladderline . See photo attached

So if you have never used open wire feedline before, give it a go as the neat 450/300 ohm Windowline and ready made ladderline is not easily available in some countries. The Doublet antenna from 100 to 135 ft as a flat top or inverted V fed with open wire feeder makes a good multiband antenna.
