Jan Geissler is a leukemia patient who participated in clinical trials to survive, and he has founded the online patient

community Leukmie-Online/LeukaNET in 2002, which became one of the most frequented online platforms for leukemia patients in the German speaking Internet. In 2003, he co-founded the European Cancer Patient Coalition, an umbrella organization of 315 cancer patient groups and became its first full time director in 2008. In 2007, Jan also co-founded the CML Advocates Network, now connecting 53 leukaemia patient groups from all continents. Jan speaks out for patients on various steering committees and advisory boards and also acts as an independent EU expert reviewing FP7 projects. In his previous professional life, Jan held managerial positions in telecommunications and media industry think tanks. Currently as the director of Patvocates, Jan is a cancer policy, patient advocacy and social media consultant.
