Steering group One of the main coordination mechanics for IT is steering group.

According to Earl steering group appear to be an obvious need for managing IT

Steering committee usually made up of high levelstakeholders and/or experts who provide guidance on keyissues suc h as company policy and objectives, budgetary control, marketing strategy, resource allocation, anddecisions involving large expenditures.

Five benefits of steering group is: 1. IT/IS policies are agreed upon 2. Improve communication between top and middle level of management 3. Change user attitude toward IT 4. Experience can be transferred across organisation 5. Activities of other planning group are directed and monitored . Three areas that cause criticism of steering groups are: 1. Wrong composition , organization do not use enough of dominant coalition 2. Strategy initiatives are taken without investigation on what impact will have on existing IT/IS strategy, could even counter strategy 3. The group lack infrastructure to carry out activities and which become strategy
This imply effective communication to and from steering group among everyone who is involved in devise and implementing the strategy

Two further stages exist witch no grouping of senior management can expected to carry on personally. -converting the strategy into feasible plans to provide application and allocation of require resource -implementation of plans by delivering application trough deployment of required resources .

The activities will be performed by someone else but there should be strong connection with steering group who should obtain relevant input from organization.
