Installing Microsoft Windows XP

Windows XP can be installed in many different ways; we will discuss four steps for installing XP in this text. 1. Partition the drive(s) 2. Install XP Operating System 3. Install the Device drivers 4. Install the Application Software First. You must check to see if all your hardware materials are installed correctly to the motherboard, drives and if the all the memory is installed on the computer, and that the computer has power. Now insert the windows XP CD and start. The computer is going to ask for you to press any button, to start form the CD Press any button on the keyboard. Then the computer will start searching for the configuration settings for you to start wait let the windows setup load up. The computer will welcome you to the setup, and then you will have to choose the option that you want to perform on the windows XP setup so Press Enter to install windows now. Now the computer will ask you about the Licensing Agreement Press F8 to Agree. Then the computer will ask you if you are sure you want to install windows XP on the PC Press ESC to continue. Now you are ready to Partition your drive (Partitioning is basically parting your drive in two or more.). If the drives have been partitioned already you have to delete the partitions that already exist on the drive so Press D on the keyboard to delete the drive C: Partition now Press Enter. Now the computer will ask you if you sure you want to delete the partition so Press L. Now you have to delete the rest of the drives the same way you have deleted the C: drive. Ok now that all the existing Partition has been deleted we will create one by Pressing C. Now you want to make the size of the partition to 10127 MB (it is important that you partition the C: drive with 10 GB or 10127 MB so that the rest of the space on the partition is for your documents.) then Press Enter, now you have created a partition as C: drive. Now the rest of the un-partitioned space on your hard drive will have to be partitioned to 29071 MB or 30GB now press Enter. Ok now it is time to set up windows on the computer Press Enter on the C: drive partition. Now you would want to Format the partition using the NTFS file system (Quick) Press Enter then the set up will being formatting, then it will copy the files to the Computer. Second. Ok the computer supposes to restart and it will ask you to Press any Key DO NOT Press any keys let the windows start up on it own. The computer will view a window showing that the windows is being Installed. While the window is installing a screen will pop-up click next. Put your name or the business name and your organization like home, school or work then click next. It will ask you for the product key enter VF7TF- JJ76H-MM7MT-TF8JW-GGMKY now click next. Now enter a computer name like your name or a company name and DO NOT give it a password then click next. Select the time zone Caracas, La Paz now click next. Now select the Typical Settings and click next. Now it will ask you if you want to connect to a domain or work group leave it as a workgroup then click next. Ok now wait for the computer to restart. When the computer restarts the display settings will ask to adjust your screen resolution click ok it will ask if your can read this click ok. Now it will ask you to click next to continue so do so. Now click in the shield with the check mark and click next you would want to skip connecting to the Ethernet so press skips. Now it will ask you if you want to register select no and click next. The computer will ask for user names enter your name or any other family name then click next then Finish.

Right click in the middle of the screen select properties the display properties will appear click on desktop then click on customize desktop click in the all boxes (my Computer, My Document, My Network Places and Internet Explorer) then click ok, click ok again to close the window. The system should automatically pick up an IP address, if this does not happen call your instructor. After you close the window close the window check for problem in the divers by right clicking My Computer >Properties >Hardware >Device Manager now insert the drivers CD. Open the CD from in My Computer that is if it doesnt open by itself click on Driver install these drivers VIA Serial ATA Controller Driver VIA USB 2.0 Driver VIA on Board VGA Drivers Realtek AC97 Sound Driver After selecting one of the drivers like Realtek AC97 Sound Driver an installation window will appear install the diver and when your finished DO NOT turn it of and close the windows and make sure that all the drivers is working properly. Fourth. Now you will have to connect to the domain so right click on My Computer >Computer Name >Change click on Domain enter the domain name (Proxy.com) then click ok a box will appear enter a user name (lab1) and Password (*******) click ok now close all the windows try not to restart the computer as yet. Now you want to map the network drive by right clicking on My Network Places >Map Network Drive enter in the box below \\172.16.32.110\public then click ok enter your user name and password then click ok now then look for the office 2003 set up this option is for if you dont have the CD Run the set up.
