This histogram published by Pew Research Center Publications on June 16, 2011 examines and compares the age

distribution of people who use social networking sites in 2008 and 2010. They took a poll of a total of 2,255 people with a margin of error of only +/- 2.3 percent, which is relatively reliable. The y-axis shows the percentage of social networking site users and the x-axis shows weather the data is from 2008 or 2010. There is a color located key on the side showing the ages. In both 2008 and 2010 the age group that most used social networking sites was from 23 to 35 year range and the age group that least used social networking site was people 65 and older. However there was a change, in 2008, people from 18 to 22 years of age composed the second highest percentage with 28% but in 2010 the second highest percentage was ages 36-49 years old. This shows the trend that older people are using social networking sites more and more. The tend continues, people from 50-65 years in 2008 composed only 9% while in 2010 they composed 20% of the total, a dramatic increase in older people using social networking sites. In my opinion as time goes on older people will be more familiar with social networking sites and will use them more and eventually maybe as mush as the younger generations.

The Pew Institute Research Center Publications published this chart on June 16, 2011. It examines the frequency of use of social networking sites. They took a poll of 2,225 and the margin of error is +/-2.3% so the data is reliable. The columns show 5 different social networking sites and the rows show the frequency of use. For MySpace the largest percentage of people (29%) never use it while for Facebook the largest percentage (31%) of users use it several times per day. For Linkdin the largest percentage (28%) of users use it every few weeks and for Twitter the largest percentage (23%) of users use it less often than every few weeks. For all other social networking sites the largest percentage (19%) of people use it every few weeks. This shows that Facebook is the most frequently used social networking site, having the largest percentage of all the sites using it several times a day, once a day or 3-5 days a week. Twitter come in second but is not nearly as popular as Facebook. In my opinion since Facebook is so frequently used it will attract more people and the percentage of people using Facebook will go up and other social networking sites will go down.
