Developing Relationships By Pastor Bong Baylon

Discussion Guide No. 1

Commitment
Introduction

W
elcome to DEVELOPING RELATIONSHIPS. This ten-session bible study was created to help
you prepare for a very important decision in your life: joining a community so you can
experience the presence, power and purpose of Christ. At the end of this course, a
decision will be made by the Overseer of the community in consultation with the Pacesetter or
Buddybuilder assigned to you to determine whether you will be accepted as a Covenant Member
or not. Once invited, you will be given one week to decide. If you decide to become a Covenant
Member, you will be asked to fulfill your PROMISE to a LIFE Group for at least one year. One you
begin, you will be evaluated every three months. Failure to fulfill your covenant promises would
result to either probation or transference to Regular Membership. While going through this
course, you will be part of a CARE Group headed by either a Pacesetter or a Buddybuilder. This
temporary group will be a preview to what you would actually experience in a LIFE Group. Pray
for God’s guidance as you go through this course so that together you can make a clear personal
decision.

Icebreaker Question:

Do you find it hard to make a commitment? Why or why not?

1. How would you describe the reaction of the people to Peter’s message?
2. When was the last time you felt that way when you heard a Bible message?
3. How would you summarize Peter’s challenge to the people?
4. How did they respond?
5. What were the visible results of their commitment?
6. What are the common reasons why people find it hard to commit to true Christian
living?
7. How would you summarize what it means to be a true committed Christian?

Application:

1. Discuss the acrostic PROMISE and what each item entails in terms of your
commitment of time, talents and treasure.
2. Agree on your regular schedule for coming together and what each person will be
responsible for to make your meetings successful.

Assignment:

Each person will share his or her life testimony to the group, one each meeting, while
everyone listens or asks questions to know more. Choose the first person who will share
next week. Usually this will be the leader of the group.
