INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS AND EXPECTATIONS:
Learning experiences are designed to achieve course objectives.
This is a lecture class. Lectures will be presented to clariIy materials in the text and handouts. Videos, slides, overheads, group activities may also be used.
Grades are based on the Iollowing criteria: Assignments and attendance in lectures Tests and quizzes
Points may be deducted Ior late assignments. Students absent the day oI a test must take the test the Iirst day back to school. Students will receive 95 oI their points earned. Students taking a test the second day back to school will receive 85 oI their points earned. AIter the second day, students cannot take the late test and will receive an F` on the test. All late tests are to be scheduled and are not on a drop in basis.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This lecture course reviews ethics and jurisprudence, Washington State Dental Practice Act, roles oI the traditional and expanded Iunctions Ior both the dental assistant and dental hygienist as it pertains to Washington State.
COURSE OUTCOMES:
At the completion oI this course, the successIul student will be able to:
1.0 List and deIine the roles oI the traditional and expanded Iunctions dental assistant; 2.0 List the traditional and expanded Iunctions oI the dental hygienist; 3.0 Recognize the ethical and jurisprudence guidelines Ior the dental team members; 4.0 Describe the contents oI the Washington State Dental Practice Act as it pertains to the responsibilities oI the dentist, dental assistant, and dental hygienist. 5.0 BrieIly, discuss the history oI dentistry and the role oI the dental assistant.
