COURSE FEATURES / POLICIES:

A. Academic Honesty: All work is to represent own eIIorts rather than copied Irom
another. Cheating will result in an F grade Ior the assignment or test. Other actions may
be taken as per Code of Students Rights and Responsibilities Iound on the college`s
website.
B. Students cannot interIere with the learning experiences oI others
C. Students late to lecture / labs may not be allowed to enter
D. The assigned dress code must be Iollowed in lecture
E. Class participation / attendance: Students are expected to attend all lectures. II a
lecture is missed, arrange with your study buddy` to obtain all handouts and notes. Ten
points will be deducted Ior every lecture missed.
F. Dental assisting Policy and Procedural Manual should be reviewed and Iollowed

FINANCIAL AID:

Students receiving Iinancial aid should ALWAYS check with Financial Aid prior to withdrawing, signing
an incomplete contract, or receiving an F or V grade.

INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS AND EXPECTATIONS:

Learning experiences are designed to achieve course objectives.

This is a lecture class. Lectures will be presented to clariIy materials in the text and handouts. Videos,
slides, overheads, group activities may also be used.

Grades are based on the Iollowing criteria:
Assignments and attendance in lectures
Tests and quizzes

Points may be deducted Ior late assignments. Students absent the day oI a test must take the test the Iirst
day back to school. Students will receive 95 oI their points earned. Students taking a test the second
day back to school will receive 85 oI their points earned. AIter the second day, students cannot take the
late test and will receive an F` on the test. All late tests are to be scheduled and are not on a drop in basis.

DENT 141 ETHICS AND 1URISPRUDENCE

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This lecture course reviews ethics and jurisprudence, Washington State Dental Practice Act, roles oI the
traditional and expanded Iunctions Ior both the dental assistant and dental hygienist as it pertains to
Washington State.

COURSE OUTCOMES:

At the completion oI this course, the successIul student will be able to:

1.0 List and deIine the roles oI the traditional and expanded Iunctions dental assistant;
2.0 List the traditional and expanded Iunctions oI the dental hygienist;
3.0 Recognize the ethical and jurisprudence guidelines Ior the dental team members;
4.0 Describe the contents oI the Washington State Dental Practice Act as it pertains to the
responsibilities oI the dentist, dental assistant, and dental hygienist.
5.0 BrieIly, discuss the history oI dentistry and the role oI the dental assistant.

EVALUATION STATEMENT:

Evaluation will be based on attendance, tests, quizzes and assignments. The grading system will be in
