November 1, 2011 Dear Governor Romney, As a member of New York's Congressional delegation, I want to welcome you to New York

City. While visiting our great city, I hope you are able to take some time off from campaigning to see the sights, meet some of my constituents, and help put some money into the citys economy. My district is in the largest and most diverse city in the country, meaning that the issues that affect my constituents are the same as those of voters you regularly meet in states from New Hampshire to Nevada. The people of New York are concerned about fundamental issues like jobs, the economy, and foreclosures. While you are in New York, I wanted to ask you, on behalf of my constituents, why have you so consistently put the needs of working- and middle-class people last? Your economic plan doubles down on the failed policies of the past giving millionaires, billionaires and large corporations tax breaks while middle-class families are left to fend for themselves. On the topic of housing foreclosures, which continue to devastate our nation, you recently told the Las VegasReview Journal that we should not stop the foreclosure process, and that, as leaders of the country, we should let the homeowners and the housing market hit the bottom. By contrast, last week President Obama unveiled a new proposal to provide relief to struggling homeowners facing foreclosures so they can stay in their homes. We need practical leadership that will help keep Americans in their homes, get them back to work, increase aggregate demand, and help turn our economy around. We do not need a continuation of the same far-right policies that caused the economic downturn in the first place policies that you support. I hope you enjoy your visit to the Empire State and hope that you will take the time to explain why you support these policies that would so adversely affect middle-class New Yorkers. Sincerely,

Congressman Jerry Nadler
