    Fleet and Accelerated Reliability Testing – September 2006

    A total of four model year 2003 Generation I (Gen I) Honda Civic hybrid electric
    vehicles (HEVs) entered Fleet and Accelerated Reliability testing during May 2002 in
    two fleets in Arizona. Two of the Gen I Civic HEVs were driven 25,000 miles each (Fleet
    testing) and the remaining two were driven until they accumulated approximately
    160,000 miles each (Accelerated Reliability Testing). One reached 161,000 miles in
    February 2005 and the other 164,000 miles in April 2005. The two 160,000 miles Gen I
    Civic HEVs had their fuel efficiencies retested on dynamometers (with and without air
    conditioning) and their batteries were also tested. The results of this testing can be found
    in the end-of-life testing report titled: Hybrid Electric Vehicle End-of-Life Testing On

    One page, vehicle fact sheets and maintenance logs have been posted for the HEVs on
    nearby www pages. The information includes: miles driven, fuel economy, operations
    and maintenance requirements, operating costs, life-cycle costs, and any unique driving
    issues.

    The four Gen I Civic HEVs were driven a total of 377,546 miles and the cumulative
    average fuel economy for the Gen I Civic HEVs was 37.6 miles per gallon. When
    looking at the nearby graphs, note that during December 2003 the monthly fuel economy
    results were skewed as both remaining vehicles were out for repairs and few miles
    accumulated. However, one Gen I Civic was fueled during December, so the monthly
    miles-per-gallon was very low.
