MTE 3102 MATHEMATICS EDUCATION CURRICULUM

WEEK 1 : STUDENTS TO WORK IN PAIRS TO MAKE A LOG ENTRY OF THE FIRST LECTURE. QUESTION:

We had our first meeting with our lecturers on Thursday. We felt quite excited as this was the first class we attended for the maths class, MTE 3102 for degree programmed. We started our class with the introduction about the syllabus of the subject and the outline of the course assessment. We are little bit afraid when we heard about the topic that we will learn for this subject because I never heard about that topic before. At first, we think that in this subject we will learn about numbers or familiar topic that we usually learn in mathematics but it is totally different. In this subject we will learn more about the theory on what is mathematics and the component that being include in teaching the primary school student. We continued our class by doing a presentation based on the topic what is mathematics? There five subtopic in that topic and we were divided into five group. The subtopics were: 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) Mathematics as a study of patterns Mathematics is a way of thinking Mathematics as an art Mathematics as a language Mathematics as a tolls or an instrument.

We were quite interested in learning this topic because before this we dont really know what is mathematics, even though we are studying this subject since in primary school until now. We enjoy listening all the presentation done by all of the groups. After the presentation we were playing games that related to the topic that we presented. Last but not least, we were given a task to make a reflective log as a tutorial. Madam Raiti given a briefing about how to do the reflective log.
