INVITATION

The Honourable Anna Bligh MP, Premier of Queensland and Minister for Reconstruction, has announced that the Government will establish a Queensland Mental Health Commission from 1 July 2012. This is the next stage in the ongoing reform of Queenslands mental health system, guided by the Queensland Plan for Mental Health 20072017 and Supporting Recovery: Mental Health Community Services Plan 20112017. The Commissions broad objectives will include: Acting as a strong advocate for mental health consumers and their families Improving the coordination, effectiveness and performance of mental health services Ensuring resources are being deployed to where they are most needed Developing a strong evidence base to support government investment Promoting greater transparency in the allocation of resources. To be truly effective, the new body needs to reflect the views and expectations of our stakeholders. The Government has therefore committed to conducting comprehensive statewide consultation to determine the Commissions scope and functions. We want to hear from you if you are: A person with a lived experience of mental illness A carer or family member of a person with a lived experience of mental illness A member of a public, private or non-government mental health and/or alcohol and drug service A member of a government agency or non-government organisation which works with Queenslanders living with mental illness.
