Objective 1. The ability to design and create design-rule correct layout for static CMOS circuits.

1.1 Using the following Voltage Transfer Curve of a CMOS Inverter, show the different
operating regions and mark the location of the following voltages: VIL, VIH, VOL, VOH and
VM.
(VT for each of the two transistors is 1 V and the inverter is symmetric). (5 Points)

Vout

VIN

1.2 For a CMOS inverter, write the important relations needed to calculate VIL and Vout(VIL).
Don’t calculate just show the equations. (3 Points)

1.3 Fill the truth table to determine the function implemented by the following circuit (7 Points)

P1 P2
Y P3
X
N3
N1 N2

X Y N1 P1 N2 P2 N3 P3 F

F=

1.4 Draw the schematic (transistor circuit) for a complex CMOS gate that implements the
following function: (10 Points)

F = (( A + B)( B + C )) + ( DE )

The complements of the variables are NOT available.

1.5 Show the Euler Paths for the NMOS and PMOS parts of the circuit for the function shown in
question 1.3. Indicate the best transistor sequence for layout. (8 Points)
