THE NELSON MANDELA AFRICAN INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (NM-AIST)

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES 1. BACKGROUND

The Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) has been established under the Tanzanias Universities Act No. 7 of 2005, and as part of a network of African Institutes of Science and Technology (AISTs) in Sub-Saharan Africa. The NM-AIST envisions becoming a World-Class Institution of Higher Learning dedicated to the pursuit and promotion of excellence in science and engineering, and their applications for economic growth and sustainable development in Africa. The NM-AIST will deliver and promote high quality and internationally competitive teaching and learning, research and innovation, and public service in science, engineering and technology for enhanced value addition to people and natural resources, emphasizing entrepreneurship for stimulating and catalyzing economic growth and sustainable development in Africa.
2. ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES

The NM-AIST is now in the process of recruiting academic, administrative and technical staff in order to start delivering postgraduate studies in various fields of science and engineering, within 2011. NM-AIST will start with two main programmes, namely; (i) Life Sciences and Bio-Engineering, and (ii) Mathematics, Computational and Communication Science and Engineering (including a heavy dose of ICT). The two programmes will also incorporate related modules of Materials Science and Engineering, Water Resources and Environmental Science and Engineering, and Sustainable Energy Science and Engineering. All students studying at NM-AIST will be required to take selected modules of Humanities and Business Studies to develop attributes that will enable them become effective and efficient technology leaders and industry captains.

(i) Providing statutory service for the Council in accordance with the Nelson Mandela African Institute of Holder of Masters degree Science and Technology in Arusha preferably in Law or (NM-AIST) regulations and other Management and legal requirements. part of distributed data processing and data storage devises for operations. 5 IT Systems Security Specialist 1 Holder of Bachelors degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering and/or Information Technology or related computer studies, who has served in a similar position for at least three years. (i) Ensures network and system security in terms of confidentiality, integrity and availability. (ii) Implements and manages various security mechanisms. (iii) Implements backup strategy. (iv) Supports and trains users on computer and network security issues. (v) Develops test procedures and performance assessment requirements, and recommends and implements corrective actions for performance improvement.
