In the Signet Classic translation of Dante Alighieri’s The Inferno, there is a
rhyming pattern very similar to the Italian verse form called “Terza Rima”. The entire book is written in a rhyming verse form compiled of three-line, 11-syllable verses, with the middle line of one verse rhyming with the first and third lines of the next. My best guess is that this was the original verse form of the Inferno, but I have never read book in its original Italian.
Dante also uses a lot of figurative language in the complex “Terza Rima” writing pattern.
