1. Kosher

>

T h e word KOSHER is generally associated with dietary laws of Judaism. The expressionwell known from commercial food packagesmeans to be "fit" for ritually clean nourishment. However, dietary laws given in the Bible and its commentaries enumerate sources of "perfect" food and special methods for its preparation and serving without even using the word kosher. There are a number of other little-known but very important usages for the word kosher. You are kosher when you work with zest, being well prepared, industrious, acting correctly, being profitable, pleasing, successful, turning out well and near perfect. Notice that these are all words of positive significance. In this book, the word Kosher thus embraces all of these qualities so necessary when practicing the ways of Western "perfect" Yoga. According to classical biblical (Midrashic) sources, the secret tradition of yoga already was taught in academies of Shem and Heber (Hebrium of Ebla) some 2500 years BCE, influenced by Chaldean, Akkadian, and Egyptian magical art. Semitic priests developed a new unified, mystical system of highest moral content. Call "Inheritance received from God" (CabalahJ, this cosmic system consists of philosophical doctrines and practical exercises. We possess a scholarly manual of Cabalistic doctrines called the "Book of Formation" (Sefer Jetzirah) by Patriach Abraham (ca. 1250 BCE). However, the complete system of practical exercises (perfect yoga) were only orally transmitted. This tradition, given by word of mouth, survived in Yemen, Algiers, and in the Caucasus. The methods of KOSHER YOGA outlined in this work come from the lands surrounding the Caucasus, the "center of three continents," from whence the Western races emerged in ancient times.

systems of the Perfect Yoga utilize human desires to penetrate spiritual "r .ms. Unlike Indian Yogins, one doesn't try to subdue desires by turning - - :rom the illusions of existence. self-maceration. They are Master. Their Yoga is the "Art of Arts" or, even better, "Science of Sciences," and its methods lead to the highest levels of human perfection. T h e teachingsARCANApresented in this book were preserved by races who have long lived in the vast mountain ranges of the Caucasus and adjoining lands. T h e methods are a compilation made by Zoroastrian priests long ago, drawn from Chaldean, Indian, Egyptian and, to a great extent, Cabalistic secret traditions. Some of these occult teachings came to Europe with the migration of Caucasian tribes. W h e n Christianity and Islam established their supremacy the mystical heritage went underground. Some remnants of the occult tradition their words, symbols and systems surfaced again as "small change" in the lores of the Eastern Orthodox church, Sufism, and witchcraft. T h e basic systems of Western Yoga are the same as teachings of the Hebrew Cabalah. T h e methods of Perfect Yoga were rediscovered in the nineteenth century by spiritual adventurers and explorers. Like all true mystics, they travelled in search of the fabled, hidden academies of mystical practices in the Caucasus, Elburz and Paropamisus mountain ranges. Random remarks in the works of G. Gurdjieff, Ouspenskv, Otoman Zar/Dusht Hanish, Laudry, and Count Stefan Colonna-Walesky also attest to the existence of brotherhoods or remnants of occult schools hidden in these mountain ranges.

At the turn of the century, occult academies existed in mountain ranges ot the "center ot the three continents."

The practices of the Western Yoga consist fundamentally of four disciplines: 1. 2. 3. 4. Repetition of the "Words of Power," Posture, Breathing, Sacrifices.

How such purely physical disciplines can influence the intellectual, emotional and spiritual levels of perception is of extraordinary interest.

I. WORDS OF P O W E R M A N T R A S

T h e Words of Power (Incantations) are composed of "Sounding" the vowels I . . . , A . . . , and O U . . . combined with selected consonants. The consonants con sonoare chosen to intensify the effects of the vowels. For example, in the best known basic wordsroot mantrasthe S, M, X, or R considerably amplify the sound vibrations as in O U M , M I H , M A H , IS or RA. They become "names of God." Thus, I, O, A turns into the ineffable JE-HO-VAH. We have also AD-ON-O-I, OS-IR-IS, IS-IS, JE-SUS, DI-OS, DIO-AR, DE-US, ZE-US, etc. Such words, when silently repeated in your throat, produce vibrations of a special kind. In this tune-up process, your sounds adjust to similar vibrations of energies existing outside the body. These are oscillations of universal life forces that lead into altered states of awareness. All the different vibrations of your body, including the heartbeat and brainwaves, are synchronized. T h e body becomes attuned to the harmonies of the universe and you emerge from such meditations with a feeling of great health and contentment, and full of energy. Audible prayers, invocations, and songs are only preparations for silent prayer in solitude, where " . . . w i t h o u t sound, chatter, consonants, with unmoving lips and palate, the holy O U M becomes soundless sounding. Amrita Bindu Yoga TJpanishad24) The words, meaningless as they seem, acquire a significance far beyond -peech. They establish a bridge between the essences of the universe, specific rcefields, and your consciousness. W h e n the vibrations of Words of Power are activated in the body, all _"itive thinking, all disturbing and superfluous habits are overthrown. All -in the way of your spiritual development is turned to dross by fire - - tntals. This becomes your first Sacrifice, and "the Word becomes Flesh ? - this reason the stories of creation begin with " . . . the Word." Words of - t" that make you a Master anew; in search of supreme reality.

II. POSTUREASANAS T h e strange field of postures, ecstatic dances, and ceremonial circumambulations guide the flow of vibratory energies in the body. Energies produced and enhanced by the " W o r d " are lead into the proper channels, into sense centers and also into the auric field by postures. T h e execution of the postures follow strict rules. T h e order in which the positions are employed depend upon signals that well up from the unconscious. Seeing colors with your eyes closed and hearing sounds that are not heard externally will be among the first signs expanding your sense perceptions (E.S.P.). Each stage of one's spiritual development is marked bv an entirely different set of colors and sounds. Usually the lower sense centerslocated in the knees, near the sex organs and navelare the first to show signs of activation. Their vibrations appear as ruby red colors. As one advances, the red color changes, becoming brighter and resembling an oscillating layer of paint coating the whole world. This is the signal for one to enter a higher stratum. Here one starts with new postures and new words of power. During this work, you will see the red turn to the gold of the alchemist. In an orderly succession of different postures, words and breathing, your color perception of gold will subsequently turn to green, blue, purple and finally appear as the beautiful "all-color" white. Postures, when combined with words and breathing are not just physical exercises. They are occult feats. Errors in the execution and timing of exercises are automatically rectified by the body. Your mind will move the body and limbs to the correct posture; even against your will. However, there are other signals for right procedure and correct timing of your meditations. A popping sound can be heard in either ear, or outside the body. Depending upon your level of attainment, you will hear the pop once, twice, or three times. " . . .These are the sounds of the gavel in the rites of m a s o n r y . . . . " Sometimes streams of energies will refuse to follow the projected pattern. They may proceed in spirals, instead of in straight lines, to call your attention to the right procedure. All are signals for the work to be done; they are usually very eloquent. Your first postures should bring the existence of the elementals to your awareness. On the next level, the five points of supreme energy on the body are activated. These are the points of the pentagramthe Points of the Master that hold and project miraculous powers. In the next series of postures you lay your enlivened hands on the body during meditations. Elemental energies previously activated in your hands stream into the dormant centers of your body to arouse your perceptive powers. In all of these disciplines you are constantly in control of your progressyou are your own Master.

Meditate by choosing the right posture, the correct Word of Power and breathing in the rhythm of the Master. W A R N I N G : In these disciplines your powers become very potent. Do not experiment with the Arcana unless you are fully prepared by a Master. A sudden outpouring of latent energies in your body can be overwhelming unless you are well prepared. III. MASTER BREATH HA-TA Knowing the Master Breath, you gain control over the work of the heart, blood circulation, the vital production of hormones, and the elimination of the waste products in your body. T h e rhythm of the masterbreath is executed as follows: Inhale seven secondsPURAKA Stop one secondKHUMBAKA Exhale seven secondsREC AKA Stop one second before inhaling again. During the inhalation, the rib-cage should swell; the abdomen expands during the exhalation. After a while, you become conscious of the effects of masterbreathing. The blood flows stronger, invigorating your intellect perceptive organs and heart. Subtle energiesPRANA, GAYA-LHAMA, universal life energies, forming and nourishing all living matterenter the body in ever-increasing amounts. They are the spiritual food that bring extra strength in the execution of Arcana. These higher energies are the "grass" that was present, feeding the multitude at the sea of Galilee. Ethereal energies, like the blood stream, remove impurities from all parts of the body. They clean the spiritual sense centers from pollutions that previously made them inoperable. Life force essences can now enter unobstructed through all centers, openings, and pores of the body. This is the time mystics claim they can breathe through the soles of their feet. Cleaning of the sense-organs proceeds in strict order. First the Chakra on the base of the spine is enlivened. Here rest the body's procreative forces sleeping like mythical dragons guarding the goldreleasing tremendous powers when aroused. Occult literature is full of references to the awakening procedures of r - icreative energies. They are usually not explicit and for good reasons. One " :o be well prepared for the moment of their awakening. Speaking about the of arousal of the energies of kundalini, serpent fire or serpent of paradise. '" ? mystagogue said: " . . . T h e serpent's flames can only be subdued with the " t . : :: water and a i r . . . . " One must understand this fully before awakening the i.eeping powers. .By rhythmic tensing and relaxing the sphincter muscles, while repeat-

ing certain words of poweryou drive the procreative lifeforces upward. Lead the currents three times around the region of the sex organs. Guide the forces in a spiral path up the spine to the navel area. After passing the heart-chakra on the spine, loop the energies around your throat. Pause for a time at the sense organ between the eyes. Meditate first upon the three procreative forces of fire, water, and air, till they rise by themselves further up to the crown on your head and beyond. " . . . Repeat at all times during the process the word of the three vowels, O U M . and the one silent v i b r a t i o n . . . . " (Han-Sa-Yoga Upanishad 3) There are seven-times-seven diverse gates of energies opened in the body and to intensify them, a special discipline must be followed for each of the energy centers. The great work begins in activating the spiritual powers that lodge in the heart. This is the source of inner light. The sun is its emblem. To attain this supreme experience project your breathyour life forcesto the heart. Let breath and life forces remain there till the living thoughts MANASbecome potent powers. Saint Nicephorus, the Hesychast of the Eastern Orthodox Church (ca. 758825) called this ancient practice "a prayer of the heart"; the only way to God. This practice was first introduced to the eastern church during the reign of Byzantine Emperor Leo III (A.D. 717-741) by Sassanide soldiers, followers of Zoroaster. " . . . Our breathinginhaling and exhaling of airis the work of the lungs surrounding the heart: when air passes around the lungs it also surrounds the heart. For this reason natural breathing is the way to reach your heart. "Center your mind; lead it through the channels of breathing to the heart. By being fixed to the inhaled air, your mind will descend to, and remain in, your heart. Become accustomed to it, my brother, do not leave the heart too soon; for at first, there will be a very lonely feeling being shut in this secluded spot. But when the mind adjusts to this restful place, it will learn to dislike the aimless circling outside that went on before. At this moment the kingdom of heaven will appear in y o u . . . . W h e n you so enter into your heart as previously explained, thank God and praise His mercy. Do this exercise often and you will learn of matters which cannot be experienced in any other w a y . . . . After your mind is firmly established in your heart, don't let it remain idle and even silent to avoid this trap, repeat over and overconstantly the prayer 'KIRIE E L E I S O N ' . . . ( P r a y e r of the Heart: 15) Projection of the life forces and breath to the seven spiritual sense organs is

moon and third eye. All are linked to breathing through either the left or right nostril. W h e n you are told to fix your attention on the sun, or a spot resembling the sun, know that the sun is IX Y O U ; because you are the microcosm of the macrocosm.

Albert L. Schutz / Hilda IV. de Schaps 15 IV. SACRIFICESKSHUR1KA

Conclude your meditations with a Sacrifice of all that stands in the way of your spiritual perfection. You do not sacrifice oxen, goats, or doves, but rather the animal inside of you, the negative aspects of your nature. Get rid of your fears, greed, gluttony, cupidity, selfishness, avarice, hatred, laziness, and imprudence. W h e n given up, these are your true Sacrifices. At the conclusion of your yoga meditation exercise, draw your right hand away from where it rested on your body, toward the right side with your fingers bent like a claw. Do it swiftly, as if cutting or ripping open a part of your body. In this way you remove from your body the bonds of negativity that held you in servitude. This is the Sacrifice. Adverse vibrations are quieted or eliminated by this cutting action, while at the same time you bind the energy pattern to its rightful place. Once imprinted, these vital powers will not dissipate. These four basic disciplinesrepetition of WTords of Power, posture, breathing, and sacrificesare simultaneously done at each meditation with the right word, right thoughts, and right deeds. Applied in the correct'way, they acquire field properties as measurable as the gravitational and electromagnetic fields to which they belong. You can reach spiritual perfection without the Arcana, but when you follow the doctrines of Perfect Yoga, you are at all times in control of yourSelf. You are a Master. * '

3. Proem

You are the center of a wonderful universe, whose radius recedes into infinity. Instead of going after things, you must command them to come to you. Know that you are the Lord of your own universe. In this awareness you ars the only one who can give orders and rules, and stake the claims. The only riddle you face is the mystery of God. He, Everlasting Existence, :> everywhere and is in every place simultaneously. The moment you realize your place in this universe, you become its center. compelled to create an equilibrium to balance the influence of negative as well as positive concepts. Only when well-balanced will you be able to remain in the commanding position, where myriad manifestations gather around you and become O N E in you. Out of the knowledge of your "Oneness" grows confidence, authority, and power. You know the truth and with this realization comes wisdom. Spread before you is the splendor of the universe since you know yourSelf. T h e answer to the riddle. "Is God immortal man?" is answered, " M a n is mortal God." This is the great dogma. The magic you will learn in the following pages, is the miracle of the "I will be, that I will be." At this time you are introduced to measures of cosmic consciousness that are identical with self-consciousness. Realizing that your microcosm is clad with the robe of the macrocosm, you will recognize the great mysteries of the world that already exist in you, because your small universe follows the rules of the great cosmos. You are an integral part of the All and All is in you. So are Time and Space. This knowledge comes in three stages: " M y name is 'I' (ANOH I)" "I have many names" "I am ALL, and yet, a part of A L L " W hen awareness of the great " I " penetrates the center of your-Self, you reach a saturation point in your personality. According to the law that like attracts like, the expanded " I " becomes augmented by alien forces until the power of your influence goes far beyond comprehension. Reaching a point beyond your auraAURA-MAZDA (OR-MUZD)the light of supreme wisdom extends far beyond your body. Here you become a leader, guide, and great teacher: a superior personality. Smaller egos are drawn into your orbit and merge with you, expanding your ego still further. This is the ego of a great personality, charismatic teacher, or executive whose energies are felt by the multitude, all attached or attracted by energy or by sympathy. This is what the following Arcana will do for you: T h e small " I " that dwells as a spark in you will awake through exercises and studies and make the longing of the ego grow stronger. As the ego expands, it transforms messages it receives from the unconscious into higher concepts, greater knowledge, better understanding, and wisdom. In this process, channels of finer energies are cleared from obstacles and purified to convey still greater floods of information flowing into your consciousness. Your questions and problems are solved, and you know that, in .he long run, nothing will happen that is not beneficial in all respects. You have arrived, and become a knowing part of the ALL in its constant formation of life. Briefly then, these are the three stages of your development:

Albert L. Schutz / Hilda IV. de Schaps

19

At first, the channels and gates of your energies open up and a place is prepared for the little spark of God to grow. The " I " is still hidden in the recesses of the body. In the second stage, your ego expands through physical and spiritual exercises and fills the body. Being at-one, that means unified with the body; the little flame of the ego has grown. Still rooted in the physical concepts of the feelings, intellect and spirit eventually expand and perceive a glimmer of a higher reality. Nourished by external energies your awareness expands further. In the third stage, the ego overflows the boundaries of the body now becoming like a seed with the ego as container. This is the way of immortality. The road to God. The ego can now grasp unimaginable concepts unheard of by the uninitiated. You have reached the level of Masters and Leaders. Before your knowing eyes are spread the karma of nations and races on earth. Such a super-ego will act, think, and feel through the ego of others drawn into its orbit. They will, be attracted to stay within the spheres of your influence. As their Master, you watch over them. While you receive, transmute, and give them your knowledge and wisdom, you are ever careful in your observations, correct interpretations and their practical application.

4. Breath is Life
T h e basic rhythm of breathing is a genetic inheritance called "Mother's Breath" and in its vibration lies your hidden destiny and fate. Changing this rhythm you open up to hidden forces that in mystery books of the Parsees are called GAYA-LHAMA. These tremendous life forces enable you to become a Master. Its energies are everywhere, trying to contact human beings to form them in their image. So be receptive to the harmonious flow of their vibration; they establish Mastery in you. In yoga you breathe in three ways through your nostrils. Coming through :he dominant right nostril, the creative breath acts like electricity, feeding the asomotoric system. Regarding the so-called PIXGALA, this is called the Sun-Breath"; the breath of the warrior, ready to fight. Breathing through the dominant left nostril keeps you centered. Being "magnetic, it feeds your sympathetic nervous system and is called IDA by the .~ : an yogins. This is the "Moon-Breath" of sages who accumulate wisdom. Air drawn evenly through both nostrils is the third way, called bv the sages ""= equilibrating" or SUSUMNA breath. It's power keeps balance between ~ - '.eft and right way of breathing. Siding with the right way of breathing, S" ~ I'MNA, preserves the formative forces in you. Aiding the left side, the -.try breath destroys dross of matter.

IOO

KOSHER

YOGA

Normally, rhythm of breathing changes about every hour, going from Pingala, Sun-Breath, to S u s u m n a . T h e equilibrating breath changes to IDA, the Moon-Breath, or vice versa. By using two postures, you can alter and control your breath within three minutes. W h y you need to change the pattern of breathing will be explained later. To achieve Sun-Breath lay on your left side and rest your head on your open, upturned left hand. The thumb should touch the cavity behind the left ear, the remaining fingers cover your forehead. T h e upper part of your right arm should lay on the body, while the lower part, below the elbow, is bent at an angle of ninety degrees. T h e fingers of the right hand form a fist with the thumb pressing the floor. This is the Assyrian way, called the " H a n d of Power." T h e heel of the right foot rests on the knee of the left leg, which is held straight. T h e Moon-Breath comes when the preceeding technique is reversed. Since the moon stands for "intellect" and the sun for "love" all matters of the mind have to be contemplated when breathing through the dominant left nostril. All subjects pertaining to love, beauty and emotions develop in the "Sun-Breath." Matters of wisdom are contemplated when breathing evenly through both nostrils. All of these regulations are well known to the Indian vogin, who practices
H A - T A Yoga.

W h e n you are asked in the Arcana to face the sun, you should breathe through the left nostril. This activates the life forces of the right side. At the same time, project your breath into the heart. WThen told to face the moon, inhale through your right nostril while projecting the breath upward into the center between the eyebrows. With right, controlled breathing you assimilate the life energies of GAYA-LHAMA. T h e four basic vibrations of the breath correspond to four colors. W h e n a specific hue comes to your awarenessor a soundyou will instantly know the type of life-energy most active in you. These vibrations activate various centers in your body, and by these means the knowledge of the Self is increased. Certain vibrations correspond to the development of the fourfold essence of a human being on the (1) physical. (2) mental, (3) spiritual, and (4) psychic levels. The colors are red on the physical level, yellow on the mental, and blue on the spiritual, while white indicates the psychic essence in you. T h e dominant color revealed in your meditation registers which level you have attained. Actually the foregoing is an oversimplification of complex color signals involved. To enliven your physical essences, project a red color vibration into your lower abdomen, organ of sex, and the back of your head. Your upper chest and

IOO

forehead will correspond to yellow, being the centers of your mental and intellectual essence. The solar plexus, stomach, and top of head are your spiritual energy-centers and their color is blue. White is then directed into your hands, legs, feet, and face to enhance psychic energy activity. In your master exercises you inhale vibrations of powers related to the four aforementioned colors. Use your will while exhaling to project these powers to all the foregoing mentioned parts of your body. They will correspondingly charge specific physical, intellectual, spiritual, and psychic energies in the process. 3

5. Remarks
T h e Master-Breath consists of seven seconds inhalation one second pause seven seconds exhalation and again one second pause. The seven seconds should correspond to the rhythm of your heartbeat, which will connect your subconscious mind with the material world. Don't forget to pause for one second because in it is the hidden secret of crossing the threshold of psychic experience. By the act of stopping your awareness can expand beyond the physical world. T h e eye muscles must relax and the eyes should not be focused, or at this time be charged with energies. As your eyes look down toward the heart, they actually view the sun. W h e n your vision is directed upward, you see the moon located between your eyes. Centered in concentration on other points of the body your eyes can see, for example, "the spot" (see next paragraph). While visualizing the organ of sex they cross "the meridian" or see stars on the knees and shoulders. " T h e spot" for your exercises painted on a cardboard must be black on a white background. The mark should be about one half inch in diameter. Xext, project the concepts of sun, moon, planets, or stars to this point, not as pictures, but as energies in your body. Generate in you sunshine, moonlight, starlight, and so on. Our eyes emanate, absorb, and send or receive amongst other energies the X" or love rays. For this reason are the eyes called mirrors of the soul. Bv ^ending out love, good-will, and good thoughts, they receive the same in "rturn. Master thoughts are the opposite of Slave thoughts; so are will and "reling in which you must become a Master, by relaxing in a positive, yet alert, "Ai.:chful attitude, you attain the ability to receive and transmit higher : "ations. 6. The First Major Arcanum

ACTIVATING BIO-ENERGIES T h e first major Arcanum will acquaint you with the workings of your life forces. This expansion of awareness enables you to tune in on the world's formative elements, establish the rhythm of Master-breathing and develop clairvoyance. To activate these powers, make sure you inhale through your right nostril. This exercise produces heat, love and electric energies. Breathing through the left nostril promotes intelligence, magnetism, and self control. Once you are receptive to the modus operandi of your bio-energies, you will learn to project them. T h e handling of the forces, and their projection and absorption proceed in straight lines; and in geometrical forms, such as squares, circles, ovals, and even spirals. Here you find the finest symbols of occult lore in geometric design excelling as guides to the channels and meridians of your power. T h e names of bio-energies themselves are Words of Power. You call upon them in your meditation. They are "the Mothers" of the world, little known to mankind and venerated by those who truly know them. Their Dravidian name is GA-YA-LHA-MA. Each one of the four syllables represents the name of an inspiring reality. GAH is the name of the Spiritual Soul; YAH is the hidden name of God; LHA is the name of the Protector, and MAH is the Mother of the Universe. MAH is the materia prima that formed space and time. She is the Dark Mother in which all lights are hidden. She is MA-RIA, MIR-JAM, and MAYA, ruler of the Sea of Illusion, the Holy Syllable (MAH) of the Indians and the MA-YANS. She is madre, mater, majka, maireek, mama, am, oum, ima all over the world. It is a great Word of Power indeed.

Letters of the alphabet are pure symbols for the mystic. Their sounds and are universal vibrations of power called by ancient Cabalists "the twenty~ - 0 building stones of the universe." By knowing how to combine the letters, you gain the powers to attract, r.crease and prolong the performance of certain energies. W h e n you search :ur own specific Word of Power to alert your life energies during mantric invocations, choose words that contain the letters V, F, or P H . In their form ir.d sound they channel definite energies into one point. MEDITATION EXERCISE 1. Fasten a white cardboard, with a painted black spot the size of a penny, on a wall between three and seven feet from'your chair. 1 Sit down and keep your spine straight. Place your legs apart, forming a " V , " with feet pointing outward. Keep your thoughts centered on the principles of life, for example, your thoughts will be attracted to love, beauty, wisdom, and purity. Let your left hand rest on your thigh, with the thumb clasped outside the fist; this will hold all fiery energies firmly within your body. T h e fingers of the right hand are spread apart (forming four V's). With the hand placed on your right thigh, your right index finger should point at the knee. This ttitude symbolizes "the sign of the spirit." - In the exoteric ritual, one's legs are pressed together. In similar esoteric work-when you are alonekeep your legs apart and relaxed. Before starting any meditation, exhale all air by using your chest, abdominal muscles, and diaphragm to get rid of all residual air. ;>"hen you have assumed the correct posture, exhale for seven seconds and let the belly protrude. Repeat silently at the same time the mantra, GAYALHAMA. DEVELOPMENT OF CLAIRAUDIENCE

First, bathe your feet with soap and water, or use an alcohol rub before you begin the exercises. Apply cold water to magnetize, and hot water to electrify, your aura. Wading in rivers, cool brooks, dewy grass, or soaking your feet in the sea or in the tub makes them magnetic. Walking on dustv roads through warm sand or earth electrifies you. Dry your feet well; for a massage, use sweet almond oil, coconut butter, or crude oil. Never use animal fats, except lanolin or butter. Take special care to keep the big toes in good condition. Massage them horoughly, stretch and pull to stimulate them to prevent numbness. Keep :hem responsive and alive. T h e word "alive" has a special significance because 'he big toes hold hidden powers. Your big toes are linked to your auditory nerves with a hearing that is not jnly confined to the ear. These toes, beyond all others, coordinate harmony -nd balance your body. It's best to clothe your feet in silk, linen, wool, or . tton. Avoid synthetic materials. Change socks and stockings often. This is n occult approach toward preventing colds, infections of the ear. eyes, or " roat. To an extent, this knowledge may also prevent rheumatic conditions.

Keep the arms and legs straight when exercising the big toes.

EXERCISE

1. Stand erect. Keep your spine straight with hands hanging down to your sides. Depending upon the breath coming through the left or right nostril, place your corresponding foot forward (up to eight inches). 2. Level your eyes on the spot-symbolized sun; next expel all residual air as indicated in the previous exercise. T h e n . . . 3. Inhale for seven seconds. 4. Rise up on your toes. Meanwhile, clench your hands tightly; as if to hold your life energies in the air at your sides. 5. Project the color red to your abdomen and head, contemplating and repeating the Word of Power: GAYA-LHAMA. 6. Pause a second; exhale seven seconds. 7. Lower your heels to the floor and open the hands. Pause a second. 8. Repeat this exercise twice, each time rising on your toes when inhaling. Maintain normal balance during the exhalation. Duplicate this exercise three times projecting yellow, then three times with blue, and finally three times with white, as already described in the First Master Arcanum. You are "upstanding and advancing..: .You know how to attack or d e f e n d . . . . " You are developing your clairaudient potential.

OUT-OF-BODY M O V E M E N T S

The Third Major Arcanum enables you to participate actively in distant happenings. Here you learn to use the principles of centralization, enabling you to concentrate on the ultimate in yourself. T h e "I will be "breath develops your life. With this exercise you form and perfect a magnetic field around you. In its perfection it forms a uniform golden aura around your body.
EXERCISE

1. Place before you two cardboards with spots representing the sun, the moon, or any other star. One card should be level with the eyes; the other card is placed three to six feet away on the floor. 2. Sit in a chair as in the first Mayor Arcanum exercise. Relax all muscles except those that hold your spine straight. 3. Rest the fingers of both hands in V-formation on your thighs. Your index fingers should be pointing toward the corresponding kneecap, and your thumbs must be pressed lightly on the inside of each thigh. Your feet then point outside, while the legs and thighs are held slightly apart.

Inhale again for seven seconds, and, while you rise to an upright position, project your life-principles on the spot placed at eye level. Repeat the red exercise two more times. . Follow-up with three similar exercises by projecting yellow, which will perfect your intellect. 1 Next, concentrate and project blue three times. This exercise brings you spiritual enlightment. Finish the Arcanum by projecting white to your limbs in order to have positive psychic experiences. Note: Make sure that you do this exercise three times in each hue. Do not exercise with one color in preference over others.

DEVELOPMENT OF WILL POWER 1. Stand erect. Hold your spine and neck straight. 2. Place your feet eighteen to twenty inches apart. 3. Lift your right hand in front of your eyes (palm facing same) approximately eighteen inches away. 4. Again, concentrate on the sun or moon spot with the desire to communicate with GAYA-LHAMA. 5. Note the breath you are in. Exhale all residual air from the lungs with the help of the abdomen, diaphragm, and chest. 6. Begin the exercise by rapidly rotating either arm in front of your body. (Your right arm should move clockwise and the left counter-clockwise.) L'se the right arm only if you are in the Sun Breath or left arm if you are in the Moon Breath (see ill. 12). 7. Inhale the red life forces GAYA-LHAMA for seven seconds, and, while breathing, rotate the (right or left) arm seven times. T h e n drop the arm for one second. 8. Again, lift up the same arm while exhaling and rotate it again seven more timesall within sixteen seconds. As in the previous exercise, project the red vibration and energies to the abdomen and back of your head while rotating the arm. 9. At the end of your exhalation, drop the arm to your side for one second. 10. Now inhale, double your right (or left) hand into a fist, and then raise your arm straight up. Tense the muscles of your arm and let the arm sway slightly back and forth for a second, just as if following a moving force. 11. Next, bend forward and strike the ground in front of you with your fist. Then, open it while you simultaneously release your breath (see ill. 13). 12. Again, stand erect. Raise your arm above your head and then drop it down to your side. Make all of your body movements in graceful motions, like dancing. 13. Proceeding onward, bend down forward for seven seconds. Then raise up, with your arm to your side, within one second. At this time, project the physical world's life forces down into your abdomen and up into the back of your head. 14. Repeat both exercises with the other arm, again concentrating on the red energies. In each exercise you should inhale four times. 15. Finally, without unnecessary hesitation, continue with the next exercise, breathing on the yellow mental level. Next, let the spiritual blue color appear four times; followed by four inhalations working with the white psychic emanations. Project your colors to the identical places described in the previous exercises.

Gracefully raise your arms backward and hold them in a horizontal position. 9. Now lift them slightly higher than your head, then lower, and hold the arms steady when they are level with your shoulders. This exercise should resemble the graceful movement of birdwings in flight (ill. 14). 10. Continue to let your arms float, as if about to fly. Both hands should hang limply down as you go (ill. 15).

HEALING EXERCISES

1. Hold two round poles gently in your hands. 2. Kneel down and position them in front of you, as close to your body as possible. Maintain an erect posture, with your spine and neck in straight alignment. While kneeling, your legs should be at right angles to each other, forming a square, and the toes should lay flat on the ground (ill. 17). 3. Relax all muscles. Empty the residual air by complete exhalation. As you inhale, breathe in short puffs (as if sobbing or sniffing), but your exhalation should be in one continuous, steady stream. This is the "Breath of Fire." Inhale for seven seconds. T Tighten your grip on the poles. Focus your eyes on the penny-sized spot fixed at eye level, but do not stare. - Rotate your eyes clockwise around the spot.

9. After inhaling, hold your breath for seven secondscalled KUMBHAKA in Sanskritand while holding the breath exert with it a gentle pressure on your diaphragm. 10. Then exhale slowly, pressing the last possible bit of air out of your lungs. During the exhalation, the magnetic, electric and thermal energies will blend and radiate up to the outer shell of your subtle body, which acts like a shield causing the energies to rebound, bringing about delight, intense calm and poise. This is called RECHAKA in Yoga; the inhalation is known as PURAKA. C A U T I O N : You may feel heat waves and electric shocks at the base of your skull, in the cerebellum, and inner-brain area. Magnetic currents will likely flow up your spine into the medulla oblongata and other parts of your body. You will most likely hear a pulsating sound, similar to a bell or chime. Here you should begin to sense an expansion of your aura. Occasionally you may feel as if there are unfolding wings beating behind, or clasping the back of your neck. This is the "KA" or Soul Bird of Egyptian mythology (ill. 18). C A U T I O N : Be aware that darkness may suddenly surround t you. W h e n you reach this point, it's wise to stop. But if you decide to continue with the exercise you will likely go into a deep sleep where you must not be disturbed until your guardian angel or the Holy One awakens you. Begin by inhaling for seven seconds, then hold your breath for seven seconds; followed by exhalation for seven seconds, and finally hold your breath tor three seconds. Altogether the entire healing exercise should last for three minutes and twelve seconds. After completing the exercise, remain on your <nees, or sit down for another three minutes and twelve seconds. This series of techniques will transmute you and summon your higher spiritual qualities. By transforming your nature you also become radiant :nrough transfiguration. This exercise is known to alchemists and Rosicrucian philosophers as making the "stone of transmutation," changing base elements r.io gold. They give several explanations of the effects this exercise produces in -.urnan beings, described as "blending the cosmic egg with the earth into ne." The results are unification, AT-ON-MENT; what Egyptians call AT-UM ir.d the Hebrews refer to as AD-ON, bringing communion to all humans rough auric, angelic, and divine energies. These are the basic specific sounds of breath: sighing, moaning, and roaring. Repeat the exercise three more times, so that you will have completed a total of twelve breaths. The Word of Power annunciated during this exercise is: I (as in "eee"), OU (as in "how"), and VA (as in "apple). Let the "A" sound diminish in volume, like the waning vibrations of a gong. The word is not spoken aloud, but should vibrate in your throat as a background to the sighing, moaning, and roaring exercises. These vibrations bring the elements to your assistance. Nature's servants, the air spirits will respond to your commands in an intensity matching the strength of the whistling sound you make, thereby calling upon breeze or wind to be invoked. Thus, climatic conditions within a certain region should change. T h e name of these mighty spirits to call upon are the spirit of the blessed light, EL BORAH, and the spirit of wind, WA-AT. INTRODUCTION TO T H E H E A R T EXERCISE

The SWASTIKA, one of the world's oldest symbols, represents energies attracted by the heart. The reverse form of this symbol, the SOUWASTIKA, is emblematic of "all" forces that emanate from the heart. These frictional energies, compared to the physical actions of expansion and : .ntraction, divide the three fields of Mysticism, Occultism, and Magic into vo distinctly different paths of spirit. With expanding mind, reason takes er, represented by the Souwastika. It is a symbol used widely in the Orient " r centralization of the spirit. W h e n awareness of one's heart expands ""rough love, deep feelings, and deep concern, wisdom takes over, the very r jndation of Occidental teachings. Mysticism, occultism, and magic can ".erefore be approached with the intellect, emotions, and feeling. Expansion of the heart through love and deep feelings is the "doctrine of the - irt." the greatest evolution, fulfilling the emergence of love and compassion, penetrates all teachings, both the secret and sacred traditions of western religions.

15. The Heart Exercise

1. Sit in a quiet place and face the presently known direction of the sun, moon, or one of the planets {i.e., orient yourself to one of your perceptual centers [chakras]). 2. Breathe deeply, relax, and then withdraw within your inner Self. 3. Form your right hand into a fist, leaving only the index and the middle finger outstretched (ill. 23). 4. Lay the fingers of destiny and teaching (the index and middle finger) against your heart. 5. In cadence with your heartbeat, repeat in a voice which cannot be heard, but will yet vibrate strongly in your throat, the word "LOVE" towards your heart. T h e word "LOVE" will likely begin to sound more like "LOB" so that after a while, the cystolic and the diastolic heartbeat will be accompanied by the emitted sounds of "LOB" and "DOB". 6. Gradually, you will note a feeling of a very special kind of love emerging from your heart. It is one of abundance and compassion spreading throughout the cardiac region. W h e n this feeling has reached a pinnacle of tension, cover your right hand gently with the left, and slowly withdraw the right hand. T h e left hand continues to form the same SACERDOTAL sign that is, with the two fingers pointing towards the heart, as executed before. This is the hand-sign of fire, bringing flames of love into your life. Now, repeat with ever}7 heartbeat the Word of Power AL-1M (pronounced AL-AM), well known in the Sufi tradition. AL-AM is actually spelled ALEPH LAM MIN. This term is found in the Koran at the beginning of the second Sura. For Cabalists, the words are pronounced ELO-HIM. These syllables definitely arouse the powers of one's heart. Repeat this term with the natural rhythm of your heartbeat, until you enter the heart, finding it filled with red clouds and pulsating mist. This is your spiritual heart, and resting in its central core lies the Arc of Judgement; inscribed on the arc you'll see a blazing pentagram with the "all-seeing-eye' cast in its center. At this stage of your worshipful meditation, send out love. Learn better how to reach out to help and bless other people. W h e n your meditation has ended, place the right hand again on your breast like you did at the beginning of this exercise. Withdraw the left hand slowly from your heart and repeat with every heartbeat the word "PEACE," till your heart is truly overflowing with a strong desire and feeling for peace. This act completes the Arcanum of the heart.

16. The Second Minor Arcanum

EXERCISE OF CREATION I. Stand erect, spine straight, head up and chin in. - Relax and breathe deeply. Put your hands on your solar plexus, and hold them there lightly concentrating upon what you desire the most. - Hold your breath for a moment and shake your diaphragm with short, spasmodic movements. 'A hile you vibrate, breathe normally in and out, not too strong or too " ften. This means that you should not think about any particular method : breathing. Neither should you be concerned about the rhythm of your wreathing. Continue vibrating your diaphragm, until desires well up from your solar plexus, felt as heat. W ith your eves half open and maintaining an introspective gaze, relax jur abdominal muscles completely, and exhale all the air from your lungs :v pressing the fingers of boih hands deep into your stomach, at the -:ernum between the ribs. ^ .eanwhile, lower your head till your chin rests upon your breast. " t r exhaling, stop breathing for seven seconds, while your hands r e t i n u e to press the stomach with a vibrating pressure. Keep your chin 3 !y against your chest and concentrate on your desires as becoming a sical reality. Be just as physical as if you were grabbing a tool (ill. 24). 2 " "ale slowly, gradually lift your head upwards as if praying. your throat so that no air can escape.

10. Press the compressed air against your diaphragm and solar plexus while your fingers still press the stomach. 11. W h e n you have built up sufficient pressure, stop digging the flesh with your fingers. At this moment you enter into an altered state of awareness. Still, you are able to move any other part of your body if so desired. This state of locking your throat and holding your breath is emblematically shown in the ancient Egyptian CRUX ANSATA, in the noose of Tibetan tantric gods, the Persian tie that binds, and so on. This process of locking the throat and driving the air against the diaphragm gives your solar plexus a sudden jolt. As a result, the spiritual energies of the procreative forces, with their longings, wishes and desires, are driven up one's spinal cord into the brain. T h e heat and pressure of these energies will mount in the spine till they strike the medulla oblongata in the region of your pineal gland with a snapping sound. From this point, the energies curve forward to the center between your eyebrows with another snap. Finally the energystream reaches the top of your head. Here, intense alertness pervades the brain. Thoughts disappear one after another. By applying the strong will of your mind, you will ultimately connect your desire with its corresponding object; what you so desire becomes yours. This formation of your own universe is expressed in the symbol of the caduceus of Hermes. The caduceus depicts extremely potent powers activated in man. T h e two serpents seen spiralling towards the pinecone or winged helmet are emblematic of one's most important body elements. T h e wand, serving as an emblem of the spine, was symbolically carried by the legendary figure, Mercury-Hermes, messenger of the ancient Greek gods. N O T E : This great Hermetic Arcanum uses the powers awakened by the sixth Master Arcanum. With these energies you can materialize whatever you regard important in your life, you can fulfill all of your desires; learn by natural means to cure any sickness in yourself or others. Selectively you will feel no pain, or. if you wish, fall in trance. All of this and more comes with the power called Kundaliniby the Indians. W h e n you reach an altered state, it is normal to see with your inner eye objects which at first appeared blurred and dim. Even if you keep your physical eyes open, they will lose focus. These are normal occurences during the execution of these exercises of the world's great Masters, Rulers and High Priests.

17. The Third Minor Arcanum

THE RITUAL OF THE PENTAGRAM With this exercise you can build a protective wall against intrusion by adverse powers and unwelcome thoughtforms. In the Ritual of the Pentagram you surround your body with an auric shielda cosmic egg. This outer casing, as it were, will protect you from negative powers. Also, should you accidentally send out harmful energies, they cannot pass through this protective shield. Thus, harmful energies sent out by you in defiance of universal law can quickly turn inward with resulting harm upon yourself. W h e n you project blessings, and loving and healing thoughts to others, you invariably receive blessings, love, and health in return.

THE EXERCISE 1. Face north. Begin your exercise with Master breaths. 2. While sitting, inhale for seven seconds. 3. Stop for one second, and exhale for seven seconds. Again stop for one second. 4. Repeat this exercise twelve times. 5. Next, arise and stand straight. 6. Hold your head up. 7. Pull your chin inward and spread your feet fifteen to twenty inches apart. 8. Inhale deeply and raise your right arm with the hand closed, except for the index finger. 9. Point with the extended finger straight ahead letting your hand form the sign of the spiritual fire. 10. Using your right arm and finger as a pointer, inscribe a pentagram around your body. This is accomplished as follows: 11. Stan with the right arm outstretched, pointing straight ahead. Move your arm horizontally across the left shoulder. '.I. Remain standing straight and, with the arm extended, point toward your right foot. 13. Continuing on, swing the arm straight up to the apex directly above your head. 14. T h e n , pointing with your arm extended down to the left foot, go back to the starting position. You have now formed the protective shield. You have activated the Key of Solomon. At this point, and without stopping, wave the right arm around once clockwise to form a full circle-and-one-half ending at the head. 15. Thrust the arm forward with the index finger as pointer at all times, as if tracing a spiral in front of your body.

W r hen forming the spiral in the finishing thrust, say: "OMEN." c. Let this dynamic word vibrate in your body like a gong. d. Then, as the sound diminishes, put your right foot forward. e. Drop the arm and relax. Depending upon your reason for making these exercises, project the fiverointed star configuration up to twelve times. Always face due north. If you wish to build a protective wall around your body for magical acts, ~ .<e the pentagram four times, successively facing the four directions of the . mpass. You may also make another pentagram above your head and another r below your feet without using the gestures of the spiritual trust. T h e word YAT-HA-AH-HU-VO is one name for the Lord's power. T h e sound OMEN --Lves the "lion roar." . r.ere are innumerable variations in this particular exercise. For example. - - in reverse the pentagram design by starting the outline on the left side, in

front of your body. Always use your right hand in the work, making one of the signs of air, water or fire. Moreover, you may hold a sacred instrument: a sword, a plumbline, or a square in your hand, if you are a Master Mason. C A U T I O N : The pentagram exercise is the most powerful act known in Solomonic lore and is only safely done within the boundaries of divine law.

REPLENISHING LIFE ENERGIES

W h e n you are physically, mentally, spiritually, or emotionally tired, face difficult tasks or a demanding audience, make the following exercise. It will quickly make you alert, build in you an electric or magnetic personality, anc strengthen the penetrating power of your eyes.

Albert L. Schutz / Hilda IV. de Schaps

55

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

Sit, or stand while completely relaxed. Inhale and exhale deeply a few times. Now exhale again thoroughly. Hold your spine erect with the head up. Inhale for seven seconds. Tense your chest, shoulder, arms, neck, jaw, and hand muscles. Fold your fingers and shake the tenseness out of these muscles. 7. Hold your breath for se\ren seconds. 8. Exhale quickly, relax completely and, while you exhale, say aloud "HA" only one time. This exercise will send currents of life forces to the spinal column. T h e serpent now raises its head and swells up. At such times you will most likely hear the sound of silver chains or bells in one ear. This is to be expected particularly when your jaws have been continuously tensed.

19. The Fifth Minor Arcanum

POWER OF HEALING This minor Arcanum should only be practiced after you have mastered the Major Arcana. W h e n properly prepared, and only then, can the methods of spiritual healing be employed. You do not learn how to heal the physical bodythis should be done by a medical doctorbut you acquire skills to restore the harmonies of the subtle bodies before sickness strikes. You lead the universal life forces back onto their natural course. W h e n you project agreeable vibrations to an afflicted part of the body, you create a spiritual template. This archetypal form programs the emotional, rational, and etheric bodies, which in turn create perfect balance in the physical body. This pattern of action is the prerequisite for perfect health. 1. Pray to God. Ask for the healing powers necessary to restore the sick person's health. 2. To start the healing process in an afflicted part of the body, remove the clothing covering this section. 3. Breathe deeply a few times bringing your mouth up to, and about one to three inches away from the part to be healed. 4. Inhale through your nose and then exhale through your mouth. 5. W'hile you blow air over the affected spot, meditate silently singing to yourself while annunciating the Word of Power YAT-HA-AH-HU-I-RI-O. Finally conclude the healing session vocally sounding the word "OMEN." Let the sub-audible sounds fade away so that no one body may hear them during the spiritual healing process. If the subject's temperature is high,

56

blow a hot-sun-breath over the afflicted area. Make sure to begin by inhaling through your left nostril: Reverse the procedure when the subject's temperature is known to be below normal. In this situation, use the moon-breath exhaling over the body. C A U T I O N : Never breathe into an open wound.

20. The Sixth Minor Arcanum

VOICE OF SILENCE The sound, rhythm, and vibration of the universe is heard through the holy and sacred "OMEN." For best results begin the exercise with the Second Major Arcanum by facing the sun. 1. Sit in front of a table with a pillow placed on top. The height should allow you to lean forward conveniently with your elbows upon the cushioned table. 2. Wet the thumbs and insert them into your ears. This will prevent you from hearing any outside sounds (ill. 28). 3. Your jaw should rest in the palms of your hands with your fingers pressing lightly against the sides of your face. 4. Keep your spine straight, and breathe twelve times in the Master-Breath. 5. Then completely relax. 6. Close your eyes, and lift them up as far as possible, as if trying to look internally into your own brain at a place between the eyebrows. 7. Make your mind blank. 8. Concentrate on what you may hear at this moment in your left ear. In the beginning you will likely hear rumbling sounds caused by your own blood circulation. 9. W r hen this roar subsides, you should hear the blast of a high pitched trumpet. 10. After a time, this blatant tone will change into the buzzing sound of a bee. 11. Next comes the ringing of a silver bell. 12. Presently the sound will become like a flute and. after a lull, you will hear a HUM: It is the rhythm of the world, the sound "OMEN.' Listen to the sound and you will understand many things. Enter into this state often, and stay in it as long as you can. When you have found the true harmony of the universal spheres try to reproduce them in your meditations, and in the "WORD" of silence.

2i. The Seventh Minor Arcanum

DEVELOPMENT OF THE THIRD EYE 1. Sit erect, with your spine straight, and face the sun. Begin with the complete First Major Arcanum, by practicing concentration. 2. Formulate a simple concrete problem, thought, or question which will be contemplated later in the exercise. Keep your mind focused on the problem. Do not allow your mind to wander. 3. Now, consider different possible approaches in solving your problem. Be specific: formulate and phrase your thought in the best, shortest, and most effective way possible.

4. Close your eyes and gently turn them upward as far as you can without strain. Soon you will experience a pronounced pulsation. It may perhaps become a slight pressure or tension between the e}es. 5. Concentrate on this feeling. Do not let it subside. 6. Continually recall the problem you have formulated. 7. Project it to the spot seen internally between the eyebrows. The vibrations may seem to wander. You may, in fact, feel your heartbeat moving up into the middle of your forehead. 8. Hold the pressure on the spot between the eyes and project your focused question into the point. 9. Again examine the different angles of your thoughts. 10. Divide the question into segmentsthat is, consider each word separately yet let your mind remain flexible and alert. This is known as "Careful Examination."

At times you will see a bright light when your eyes are closed. You may see a dot, a star, an eye or a figure resembling a guardian angel, or even the vision of a cultural hero. These figures seen with closed eyesif they have a spiritual meaningbelong to the second stage.of meditation. If you see wordly objects or figures, you are only in a state of contemplation. Each one of the following stages begins with a concentration exercise and consists of (1) undivided attention to "one" problem, (2) setting your heart on the object of your concentration (i.e., do not just make it a practice run), and (3)projecting yourself into the object of your meditation or contemplation. Search at all times and under any circumstances for the inner light; when it comes, welcome it and bless it. T h e light is so bright that the sun is like a shadow by comparison. This, the "real light," comes to your awareness on the physical, mental, spiritual, and psychic planes in succession. At this point, you are illumined; this is your light. If you are able to see the light without exercising; if you can see objects, events and persons while being passive; if you no longer need to "will" like you do in meditations, you are clairvoyant. The followers of ZARATHUSTRA (in India called Parsees) develop the faculty of seeing the light gradually by praying to the sun at dawn. They habitually gaze at the rising sun for a short time each day; the practice doesn't destroy their eyesight. While observing the rising or setting sun, look away for a moment toward some dark space or close your eyes. T h e n concentrate on the spot fixed in the retina. Try to keep this picture of the sun steady in sight, and attempt to draw the light in to fill your whole body with its glamour. Fix a visualized image of the sun at a distance of six feet in front of you: It's brilliancy will turn into a mirror in which you should see the

Albert L. Schutz / Hilda IV. de Schaps

reflection of your own face. It's also quite possible that you may see various objects and moving matter. You can also gaze effectively at the moon, planets, or stars in such projection exercises. Learn to know the nature of these heavenly bodies, and when you get into an altered state, the night sky will truly appear in its full three dimensions. You will become a star amongst stars. Some will appear closer and some more distant. But you will no longer be an onlooker; you will be a light amongst lights. You can also do this exercise with a light bulb, candle, or crystal ball.
EXERCISE

1. Exercise and control the muscles of your eyes by rolling them clockwise or counter clockwise with the lids open or closed. 2. Attempt to gaze inwardlyinto yourself. 3. Look up or down without moving your head. 4. T h e n roll your eyes in a pre-selected, geometrical pattern. 5. Try to look cross-eyed or attempt to swing your vision peripherally towards the opposite side of your face. 6. Focus on the point between your eyebrows or toward the tip of your nose. 7. Additionally look with one eye cast upward, while the other is directed downward. All of these techniques will strenghten your eye muscles and improve your sight. I will now reveal the exercise in which you can cross into the ether and become clairvoyant. 1. Sit up straight, yet remain relaxed. 2. Close your left hand and leave only the index finger outstretched in the sign of fire. 3. Cover your left hand with three fingers of the right hand, meanwhile clasping the three folded fingers (partial fist) of the left hand. 4. T h e tip of the outstretched index finger of your right hand should touch the tip of your left index finger. 5. The thumbs of both hands are held together side-by-side. 6. Next, separate the index fingers and point them straight up. . Hold both hands before you, approximately two feet away, at eve-level. 3. Try to find the exact distance, by moving the hands slowly to-and-fro. A third finger emerges in the center, which is a composite of the two real fingers. T h e imaginary center finger should appear to have two nails; that is, a fingernail facing both sides. Concentrate upon this composite finger until it becomes an absolute reality to you. Move your hands to be sure that the image remains steady. In this exercise, you can also light two candles of equal height and place

them at eye level at a distance of three to six feet in front of you. The spacing between the candles should be three to six inches. 11. Look at the lighted candles till you see a third non-existing candle. 12. Alternate the spacing between Candles and their distance to and from you as an experiment. Here is another technique: Look into the eyes of another human being till you see an almond-shaped third eye between the person's brows. Learn to hold a steady gaze upon his/her third eye. Mastering this exercise will give you great power over human beings and animals. C A U T I O N : Do not use this ability for other than benevolent and pure purposes or you will suffer the penalties accompanying misuse of this sacred power.

Albert L. Schutz / Hilda IV. de Schaps

61

In the next development, adjust your eyes so that they remain focused at a given distance. Here you concentrate on nothing. 1. Take any kind of object and hold it not too far away from your eyes. 2. As soon as your vision is focused on the object, move it quickly away, but keep your eyes fixed on this non-existing object, the point of your concentration. All other matters around the point should be hazy. Practice this exercise until you can concentrate by holding your gaze at will, for any distance. You can achieve an auto-hypnotic state watching dust particles float in the air. This, too, develops inner sight. Look at a distant object and concentrate upon it. Have someone place a cardboard before the object. Even though it is obscured let your eyes stay focused on the exact spot. Do not let your eye refocus in adjustment with the cardboard. Though it stands in the line of view, you seemingly look through the board. W h e n you have learned to observe these ways, try looking through the face of someone standing before you. Focus the object line of your sight behind him/her, as if looking through one who is transparent. T h e person will seem like a body of air. You will be able to see into the past and future while gazing into a crystal ball. This is the way to affect a person's thoughts from afar: 1. Sit relaxed at a table as in preparation for the First Major Arcanum. 2. Mount in front of you, at eye level, a ball made of crystal, glass, tourmaline, or beryl; crystal is preferred, but a magical mirror or glass bowl is also acceptable. 3. Place a dark, if possible, velvety, screen behind the ball. 4. Position a burning candle behind you. 5. Rest your elbows on the table, cover your forehead with the fingers. Place your thumbs behind the ears. 6. Gaze into the crystal ball and mentally split its ether with the concentrated power of your third eye. 7. Continue until you actually see the illusion of two candles instead of one. Watch patiently, and be alert, since the figures will at first appear rather indistinct; with some practice they should become clearer. Repeat the crystal-gazing exercise at the same time each day. Do each daily session about thirty minutes without blinking or closing your eyes. W hen your right hand is held over the eyes, you will see forms, figures and indistinct symbols weaving as in an ethereal dance. These are the shadows of the abyss. T h e same will occur when you close the eyes and at the same time press the index finger of your right hand on the bridge of your nose. Here, you

62

will see the outlines of rather emblematic figures on the black velvet screen. As previously mentioned, this exercise will enable you to learn to read telepathically the thoughtforms of other people at a distance. Here is another technique: On a clear warm summer night, lie upon your back in the open air and look up at the sky. Fold your arms behind your neck and try to move upward, into the starry sky, as far as you can see. Try to reach a specific star. In this way, you'll find yourself traveling through the universe. T h e stars no longer remain spots or windows in the sky. Bv these means you will become more sensitive to ultraviolet and infrared rays. T h e auras of people, living matter, grass, stones, trees, and other living things will become visible to you. Physical realms and etheric existences unfold to your expanding awareness. These are some of the ways to become a seer. W i t h the help of meditations, concentration, contemplations, and splitting of the ether, you can become clairvoyant; you will read auras. For telepathic control, the crystal ball is effective; but instead of just gazing passively into the device, use a mantra, a Word of Power with action to properly help others.

D R E A M CONSCIOUSNESS

In the normal state of awareness you are ignorant of yourSelf. In the altered state you become aware of the hidden functions of your bio-energies during meditations. Only in a third state comes "dream-consciousness." Here you are fully awake while your body sleeps. Out-of-body experiences occur as a matter of course and you begin to learn from the hidden side of life; from the subconsciousness, for example, you acquire the ability to perform tasks better. W h e n in this state you can advance to higher levelsastral, spiritual and cosmic states of awareness. To reach this state of wakefulness in your sleep, set a particular day aside for yourself, one completely free from all outside interferences. To begin: 1. Face the sun during the exercises, be relaxed and comfortably dressed. Sit down with a table in front of you. 2. Place a pillow on the table to act as a cushion for your elbows. 3. Hold your forehead in your hands, with the fingers slightly spread apart. 4. Insert moistened thumbs into each ear and keep your spine straight. 5. Close your eyes and turn them upwards as if looking inward, into your own skull. This posture is assumed exactly like the one described in the Sixth Minor Arcanum.

7. Repeat this mantra incessantly in a low monotone voice the way the Tibetan monks sing. 8. Reverberate the sound in your throat. 9. Meanwhile project the vibrations directly into your spine. 10. Keep your ears closed with your thumbs. Sing the mantra for two hours. Don't let your voice vary with either lower or higher pitch. 11. Then stop the practice and rest for two. hours. You may eat solid food, but do not drink water or any other liquid nourishment during the entire day. 12. Later, after the two hours rest, repeat the same mantra, using the identical monotone for another two hours. 13. Rest two more hours, then sing again for two more hours. W h e n you have completed this exercise three times, rest, then go to sleep. At first it will seem difficult to fall asleep, but you will. During the sleep you should hear the mantra you sang during the exercises. After seven days rest set another day aside for the second part of the word, duplicating identically the exercise. But this time, repeat the following mantra in a low voice: YAT-HA-AH-HU-VAI-RI-O. Continue with the exercise, repeating it three timesthat is, singing for two hours and resting for two hours, in the same manner you executed before. Don't eat anything and drink only water. Rest and go to sleep. Just as you did during the first day. Listen for the new mantra during your sleep; curiously, the song of the previous mantra will come back to your memory. You will remember during your sleep that you sang the first mantra a week ago, understanding the difference between the two. W i t h this exercise you become conscious during your sleep and dream states. T h e realization of dream consciousness comes with mantric sound, correct posture, and lack of food. Too much food makes one sluggish and dull. Proper posture leads the energies from your hands into your subconscious mind. Mantric vibrations, however, attract higher forces into your body.

N O T E : Sleep at night with your head facing the north. This permits the psychic, electric, magnetic, and other currents energiesthat act like physical electro-magnetic powers to enter and circulate throughout your body. Moreover, you are strengthened by earth's magnetic field and the sun's electric currents. W h e n lying down to fall asleep, choose the correct posture. If you feel you need more physical or spiritual energies, sleep on your left side. In this way, you summon the help of the sun-breath, stimulating all positive concepts conceived. Whenever you need intellectual stimuli, help in your studies, or better healing, sleep on your right side. If you consistently recline in this posture, the

IOO

moon-breath dominates, and with it comes strengthening of psychic and intellectual levels. To more strongly influence your meditations, change the alignment of your bed to have your head facing the south. W h e n you become conscious of your sleep and dreams in this new way, try to remember these three principles: (1) Observe carefully the phenomena you encounter, (2) find a correct interpretation, and (3) put into practice what you have learned. For your own protection, you must always help others when you are in an out-of-body state. At the end of your sleep you will be drawn, or ripped back, by the silver cord which connects your astral vehicle with the physical body.

RECHARGING SPIRITUAL ENERGIES T h e stances and hand gestures revealed by Egyptian and Babylonian statues demonstrate how supernal energy currents are led to flow harmoniously throughout one's body. These higher energies strengthen one's health, will and intellect. To learn the secret of these forces, start with the second Major Arcanum and remain standing. Clasp a rod in each hand. Doing so, you release additional powers in your body. At the same time, no power will escape as would ordinarily happen when your hands are left open. T h e rods, held for a sufficient period, can raise your energies 100 percent, perhaps enough to last twenty-four hours. The two rods used in these exercises are made of different materials. The one held in the right hand wields the power of the sun; the one gripped in the left invokes the power of the moon. T h e sun-rod is made of hardened coal, and its structure is polarized like a magnetized iron rod. In the process of hardening the coal, it is exposed to high temperatures and then it is instantly cooled by submerging the rod in water. Commercially produced, hardenedcoal rod can be used. It is then inserted into a copper tube with the ends left unsealed. T h e rod should be about six inches long, and one inch in diameter. The exact size of any rod ultimately depends upon the size of one's hand. T h e moon-rod of power is composed of hardened or pressed lodestone. Lode, or lodstone, can be any magnetized metal. The lodestone should be inserted into a tube of zinc or tin with the ends left open. In size, shape, and finish, the moon-rod must be identical to the sun-rod of coal. In describing the rods, we come to one of the central dogmas of practical magic.

Prehistoric works of art already show figures holding implements in their hands or forming various signs made with their fingers. These signs of the hands and implementscalled grips, token, mudras, or marks of the adept are emblematic of practices that affect human awareness. These symbolic actions and instruments of power activate bio-energies of the body. In this work they are thus described as the powers of sun, moon, and stars. In Cabalistic terminology they represent the elements of fire, water, air, ether, and so on. Likewise the terms "color," "metal," "season of the year" and "direction of the universe" are used to give us specific information about the secret ways of holding "the right and left" hand. All of these terms describe bio-energies one learns to master with the Arcana. T h e following comes from an unedited manuscript of Count Colonna Walesky. T h o u g h obscure in purpose, here is a description of the ways astrological terms combine with metals: Sun Moon Mars Mercury Saturn Venus Jupiter o D d" S 9 h gold silver iron mercury lead copper tin

Likewise, to control the energies, you have to know the special properties of coal, lodestone, beryl, amber, tourmaline, rock crystal, hematite, etc. Objects shaped in various symbolic forms have been, and are used throughout the world to identify the universal forces active in "metals." Among them are the Babylonian iron maces inlaid with silver, and ending in a horned human head or the head of a bull. In Tibet, a brass Dorje is used for this purpose. T h e exercises that recharge one's spiritual, psychic, and nervous energies are universally known in a great variety of systems showing how one holds one's hands. In my book Call Adonoi: A Manual of Practical Cabalah, I describe some of these systems in great detail.

GOING INTO A L E T H A R G I C TRANCE

T h e description of the posture in this Arcanumlike the previous oneis intentionally "fragmentary." All Arcana derived from the teachings of the Kaula Circle of northern India are presented in this manuscript in an oversimplified manner. At best they can only be understood by Masters already familiar with the magical aspects of Yoga. These exercises don't constitute the perfect and continuous system from which they have been developed; neither are they necessarily given in an orderly sequence required for a successful conclusion of the work on y o u r Self. But these unusual compilations of strange exercisesfragmentary as they areattempt to help us rediscover and master a great and ancient science.

T h e following KETCHARA MUDRA enables you to center important bioenergies in your head. You have no doubt heard that yogins can enter suspended animation, appearing lifeless, except for the detection of heat emanating from the crown of the head. This phenomenon is achieved by separating one's positive and negative life streams and stopping the flow of spiritual currents around one's body. In this way the vogin can remain alive but unanimated three to six months without benefit of food, water, or air. T h e technique begins with the yogi sticking his tongue out and holding it between his fingers. This is done by using a piece of cloth to prevent the tongue from slipping back. Continuing on, the yogi attempts to pull the tongue further out by massaging it; as though milking the appendage. By pulling the tongue, a membrane underneath, called froenulum lingue, becomes longer. T h e same result may also be achieved by a surgical operation, incising the membrane with a knife or very sharp instrument. This operation, described later on, should, of course, only be done by an understanding and competent physician and surgeon. "Real perfection," according to the Arcanum, "is reached when the tongue goes back, beyond the soft palate and is inserted into the nasal cavities at a point between one's eye brows. Now, here is the benefit of this exercise: T h e procreative life forces that normally rest near the sex organ, when correctly aroused, begin to circulate in spiral or oval orbits around the body. To facilitate the smooth flow of these energies, the tongue should form a bridge in the mouth over which the energies may flow. They stream from a place between the brows, down into the mouth where the energies collect. As the expression goes, "the golden essence is then swallowed in a great g u l p . . . [etc.etc.]" Success depends upon the tongue reaching "the point between the eyebrows." Fortunately, all of this can be achieved without the tortuous contortions required in yoga exercises. According to a Tibetan initiate, "You do not have to twist yourself into a pretzel in order to reach SADHANA."

25. The First Rejuvenation Arcanum

ABSORBING BIO-ENERGIES

How sometimes gross physical exercises expand one's intellectual and spiritual consciousness is of absorbing interest to students of the occult. T h e fact is that these exercises work. Correct execution of the physical disciplines often brings about immediate harmony in the body, improving one's vitality and stimulating clarity of mind and spirit. These achievements are readily observable and often can be replicated. Rejuvenation disciplines go hand in hand with complex, internal cleansing methods called KRIYAS, of which one of them, the MULHA MUDRA, was reportedly practiced by Western yogins during the time of the Crusades. After emptying one's intestinal tract through enemas and fasting, the exercise of the Mulha Mudra will stimulate the sources of one's procreative energies. Yogins say the effects of this activation are not only spiritual or psychic, but they can also eliminate gastric, kidney, gall bladder, liver problems, and constipation. T h e primary aim of the rejuvenation procedures is to perfect an important working tool of the magician. W i t h it, he acquires the ability to breathe in the "sun and moon" cycle, HA-TA (Hatha) YOGA. This is done consciously with the whole body. W h e n the scriptures speak of the breath, they do not allude directly to air circulating in the lungs. The science of breath refers to the essence in air, associated with universal bio-energies called PRANA, which circulate throughout one's body. These energies pervade the whole being and can be made to congregate, enter, and leave according to one's will and desires, whether inside or outside of one's body. When the manuscripts speak of breathing through the hands, feet, anus, or any other parts of the body, this refers to an acquired ability to consciously will life forces to move from, or to, any part of the body, and beyond. This is explained in great detail in the Manual of the Science of BreathHaTj-Yogafound in the supplement at the end of this book. This very old ^T.skrit manscript, like other handbooks of this kind, withholds a number of important facts. By what means diverse streams of life energies are aroused, and how they

I O OK O S H E RY O G A

are projected, are the real secrets revealed in HA-TA Yoga. The great number of confusing terms used by western mystics has helped even more to obscure the nature of these occult matters. In addition to a number of alchemical, astrological, cabalistic and masonic names given them, the two streams of bio-energies are known as "ways of the left and right hand." Experiencing polarity in one's body as male and female energies not only in the brain, its practitioner wields forces of white (and erroneously called black) magic. Other terms for this polarity are "initiation through fire and water, pillars of fire, and dark clouds that lead Israel in the wilderness, gold and silver, and so on. Between the two streams of IDA and PINGALA flows a power that, when stimulated, keeps the opposing streams in balance. T h e balancing power SUSUMNAbrings equilibrium to the light and dark sides of breath's universal essences. Copper, spirit, air, temple, altar. Jacob, and wisdom are terms for the power balance in the Universe. W h e n Zoroaster revealed his doctrine of ORMUZD & AHR1MAN, he spoke of the two opposing streams of universal bio-energies. They are actually the light and dark aspects of one's mind: good and evil, positive and negative; inherent forces in the ongoing formation of the Universe; the micro and macrocosm. W r hen matter was formed, the endless light was hidden, veiled so it seems by the materia prima, and darkness was born. As long as night exists, this darkness, deeper than blackness, will rule. Good and evil remain in the world to polarize all formative energies, but the spirit born in man then equilibrates. This is the secret of the three energies, the "mothers" that form the spirit in you. Their vibrations are contained in the Words of Power repeated silently in your meditation. 1. Knowing this, assume the right posture. 2. Inhale the supernal energies and project them during your exhalation to the right spot. 3. Repeat the Word of Power in silence, and terminate your procedures with a gesture of "sacrifice." 4. With a cleansed body, empty stomach and bowels, face the sun. 5. Kneel down, keep your spine straight, and stretch your arms straight overhead. 6. Look up without bending your spine. 7. Relax, inhale deeply with force, and lean backwards as if swaying. 8. Hold your breath and bend forward until your forearms are flat on the ground. 9. Adjust the position of your arms and legs, till you are in the right posture to reach the ground with your forehead. 10. Exhale as soon as your arms touch the ground.

73

11. It may be necessary to sway back and forth on your arms and knees to adjust your posture. 12. Keep your stomach muscles relaxed. 13. Breathe evenly and rhythmically by using only your chest muscles. If this exercise is done correctly, air is expelled from the intestines during inhalation and drawn into the rectum whilst exhaling. The initiate will at this moment insert a well-lubricated rubber tube in the anus to facilitate the movement of air. 16. The tube is inserted two to three inches, passing the external and internal sphincter muscles. 1 . Here, one should occasionally change the distances and locations of one's arms during the exercises.

18. Rest your face on your hands, and 19. If need be, raise your body up to the starting position. 20. Next, lift your arms up, bend over backwards, and inhale deeply as you did at the beginning of the exercise. 21. At the termination of this exercise, the initiate inhales deeply, then exhales, and holds the breath while removing the tube from the rectum. 22. After all air is expelled, and when you have returned to the upright position, form your right hand in the sign of the claw, and draw it fast across the loin as a Sacrifice. This Arcanum originated in the Kaula Circle, and was practiced as Tantric Yoga.

RESTORATION OF FACE AND BODY This exercise is complementar} 7 to the MULHA MUDRA exercise. T h e second exercise following is made to rejuvenate and clean your face, neck and head. Likewise, you can remove congestion and unhealthy conditions in your nervous system and brain. Your sensesears, taste, sight, smelland even your sinuses can also be cleared to some degree.

You may think that your skin and hair are improved by the use of soap and water, lotions, hot and cold applications of mud, shampoos, etc., but these treatments at times do more damage than good. Cells can become deformed and stretched, or lose their elasticity and make one's flesh and tissues lifeless and flabby. T h e human body consists of billions of cells of protoplasmic structures. These forms consist of a wall, a cell membrane, and a very complex nucleus with a nucleolus swimming in the center of a tiny protoplasmic ocean. Protoplasm contains carbon compounds, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, small amounts of sulphur and phosphorus and a dozen other elements. In addition to chemical substances, the cells are made up of inorganic matter, such as ions, choride, sodium, sugar, etc. Inside the nucleus, a number of very complex substances form the genetic templates which determine the character of a cell and its enzymes. Thus, cells are of many kinds. But their functions and powers fundamentally are all alike. One of the most remarkable functions of a cell is its ability to convert so-called non-living matter into a living substance. In the nutritional process, when we eat, this is called anabolism. However, when the process is reversed, living matter is secreted and becomes a waste product; this is known as catabolism. In anabolism, food is turned into intricately complex compounds with properties of life. In catabolism the living compounds return to simple forms by a combustion, chemically similar to burning which produces carbondioxide (CO,). This process takes place while we breathe. Therefore, oxygen in the air is necessary for the combustion of food and tissue substances, and it is absolutely necessary in the catabolic process of metabolism. This activity supports the destructive process, except that some of its energies are consumed in converting lifeless substances into living matter. Oxygen is stored for some time in the cells, where it remains seemingly inert until needed for combustion. A considerable amount of oxygen makes up a part of the protoplasm itself. Water makes up the largest part of living matter. It circulates in the tissue in diverse fluids such as blood and lvmph. The fluids convey food to the cells, and iinally remove waste by carrying away all toxic elements necessary to keep our living tissue in a mobile, elastic, and healthy condition. W h e n there is an insufficient supply of oxygen and fluids (water, blood, lymph) our cells soon become under-nourished and starved. As a result, our elimination and combustion process slows down, allowing waste products to accumulate in the cells. Ultimately, unnecessary bulk is added to our tissues which stretches the protective membrane within the cell walls. W h e n this causes a loss of elasticity in the cell, it is destroyed. After this happens, random cells fit badly together and tend to stay that way. 3ody movements are restricted because the tissues are now in a rigid state. They have lost their ability to return to their normal place and mode of function.

This form of atrophy creates salt deposits and wrinkles and folds, thereby obstructing the process of metabolism. Adding to the problem, fatty substances collect in the capillaries, tissues, arteries, and veins. This is the beginning of a state called arteriosclerosis, hardening of the arteries. T h e arteries responding to adrenalin and ephedrine regularly release high tension. Here they contract and more salt is deposited in the arteries, hardening them still more. This brings on high blood-pressure, debility, and more physical complications. One occult method used by the yogin to restore, dissolve and cure the blood, and direct its flow towards the undernourished and congested areas, is the application of the following Arcanum: 1. To purify and strengthen the blood, drink plenty of water. 2. Consume natural fresh fruit and vegetable juices made from lemons, oranges, pineapples, prunes, apples, celery, onion, carrots, beets, cabbage, etc. 3. Drink low-fat milk about one hour after taking the juices. 4. Repeat this regimen every two to three hours. In reference to the First Arcanum of the MULAH MUDRA, you can improve the Arcanum by using beet, celery, orange, or turnip juice as an enema. This is accomplished first by gently warming the juice somewhat below body temperature. Then dilute the juice with about 50 percent warm water. This enema is taken only every third day. As to your food intake, eat smaller quantities of your regular fare in order to give your liquid diet a chance to succeed. T h e next part of this Arcanum consists in twice daily exercises of five to ten minutes each. This exercise will activate and intensify the works of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, which release secretions that strengthen and purify the blood, heighten the metabolism, and help eliminate salt and waste products from the body. 1. In the first part of this exercise, place the thumb and forefinger of your right hand on either side of your windpipe, just below the Adam's apple. 2. Roll your tongue forward and backward for two-and-a-half to five minutes. Presently you will feel the soft glandular structure ripple where the finger rests. 3. Help this motion by pressing lightly to excite the working of your glands. 4. In the second part of this exercise, bend your head until your chin touches your chest. 5. Tense the chin and neck muscles by stretching your mouth open on both sides. Neck muscles and tendons should now stand out. 6. Lift your head upward slowly without releasing the muscle tension. Actually, you should attempt vigorously to increase the tension.

77

7. After you have lifted your head all the way up, release the tension. 8. Relax; roll your head back down. 9. Now repeat the exercise for about five minutes. Concentrate on stretching your tongue out as far as possible while holding your hands with the fingers bent like claws on your knees; meanwhile, meditating upon the great mantra OMEN, you will hear "the roar of the lion." These two exercises awaken, purify, and excite the glands, and they will produce and release more secretions into the blood stream to rejuvenate body tissues. N O T E : At the beginning of the exercise, you may experience throat neck and thyroid irritation. This is to be expected since these muscles usually lack exercise. But after a few days the pain ordinarily will stop, provided you exercise regularly twice a day. In the beginning, it is best to do the exercises for two-and-a-half minutes only, and gradually increase them to five minutes duration. T h e third exercise is the proper Arcanum. 1. The posture is identical to the stance in the First Rejuvenation Arcanum. 2. Breathe very strong and deeply for five minutes, until your body, and especially your face, begins to tingle. This indicates a strong oxidation of the blood. 3. Relax. 4. Face the direction of the sun. 5. Go down on your knees; keep your spine straight and arms uplifted. 6. Let your eyes look up, then 7. Bend your spine slightly backward in a graceful swaying motion and inhale. 8. Hold your breath and bend forward till your elbows touch the floor. 9. Let your weight rest upon them. 10. Adjust your elbows until your forehead touches the floor. 11. The moment you reach the floor, release your breath. 12. Then, while kneeling, adjust your arms so that your chin can reach the knees comfortably. 13. Do not breathe in any special rhythm, but naturally as your posture demands. 14. Try to hold your breath for a longer period since this will force more blood into your face, which is the aim of this exercise. 15. W h e n you finally feel powerful pressures in your face and head, lift your torso and arms up to the previous position of the First Rejuvenation Arcanum.

16. Lean backward slightly, breathing deeply until the blood drains from your head and face. 17. Again, breathe deeply, and repeat the exercise for five minutes, bending down and lifting up. Do this every day, gradually lengthening the time of the exercise up to thirty minutes. This means, that you will bend down and lift up your torso approximately thirty times each day. The secret of the Rejuvenation Arcana consists in knowing how to clean and renew the tissues of your body. You are being given the technique for learning how to send the blood to a selected place and how to withdraw it. This is done by lowering the part to be flushed with blood below all other parts of the body, and, conversely, to elevate the part to be drained of blood higher than the other parts. Note that when inhaling in these exercises the blood recedes, but when you hold your breath or exhale, the blood circulates with more vigor. Blood circulation, its onrush and withdrawal, is synchronistic with breathing. Blood pressure is regulated in the arteries. From there, the pure, oxidized blood is pressured into the capillaries and cells. This process provides oxygen, which burns up the waste products and transmutes them into forms easily eliminated from the organism. In this way waste products that enter the veins are exhaled by the lungs, thence sweated through the pores of one's skin and finally eliminated through the kidneys, liver, and bowels. Since blood pressure is lower in the veins than in the arteries, the flow of blood can be controlled by massaging the arteries and veins. W h e n you press an artery, the flow of blood entering a destined part is stopped and the blood that is left is drained through the veins. W h e n pressing the veins, blood "outflow" is checked, but "inflow" is not. Therefore, in this part of the body the blood will enter with greater force into the capillaries, filling them with more blood than usual. By studying the places where arteries and veins are close to the skin, the flow of blood can easily be controlled by visually perceived manipulations. Another way of controlling the circulation is by tensing various sets of muscles. This contracts the arteries and veins for a short period. In studying methods of rejuvenation, you will find that the feet and toes profoundly influence the state of one's body. The Second Major Arcanum exercises are therefore of greatest importance. Now, to begin: 1. 2. 3. 4. Rise and stand on the balls of your feet. Massage each foot thoroughly. Exercise and knead your ankles and all muscles of your feet. Massage and pull the toes, press their tips, especially those of the great toes. This will make the nerves more perceptive, bring increased blood circulation, and beneficial reactions from the nervous centers and ganglias.

Most important, these massages will stimulate various glands of the body, especially if done when you move your toes up and down and sideways. For additional benefit and perfect treatment of your feet and hands, use mantras during the massage. Likewise, the order of these exercises influences the performance of one's blood circulation. Before applying a general massage, vigorously rub your hands and feet. Continue by exercising the arms and hands by bending, shaking, and relaxing all body muscles. Next, rotate the arms and hands until you see the fingers blurred. Do this until you feel strong vibrations at your fingertips and in the center of your palms. In addition, rub the hands together, then bend your fingers back and forward, in unison or separately, as if playing a violin. Finally, spread your hands and press them together palm-to-palm. These exercises develop and increase strength, flexibility, and powers of will. Logic and destiny also improve along with intellect, health, and sex life. This sketch summarizes, in very abridged form, the faculties affected by awakening the hands. Other far greater powers include healing, self defense, and creative development. T h e strength of your logic and will power is indicated by the size of your thumbs. The size of each fingerjoint is meaningful. The index finger is used for defense and shows the measure of your intelligence and destiny. T h e

middle finger indicates knowledge, teaching and learning abilities, as well as one's vitality and physical harmony. T h e ring finger stands for humanitarian love, compassion, and altruism. The little finger is the source of psychic power, sex. physical love, and, if misused, lust. Massaging the fingertips and joints, and pulling the fingers and hand muscles enlivens many faculties. T h e artworks of ancient artists, depicting designs of the fingers and stances of arms and legs, reveals many keys to the expansion of one's consciousness. Many of these secrets have been given in my previous book. Call Adonoi: A yianual of Practical Cabalah and Gestalt Mysticism. T h e postures and the forms of the fingers and hands reveal many things about the character of a person. In this regard, one can control the motion of one's own fingers, which would otherwise reveal hidden characteristics. Continually sticking out one's little finger, suggests that one is oversexed. Never fold the thumb into the fingers when making a fist; this denotes a weak will, poor health, and a propensity for lying. Observe the hands of others, their involuntary movements and gestures, the length and form of their fingers. All of these attitudes and movements disclose character, abilities, and intent of action. Even more is revealed, if you hold the palm of your hand about three inches from and facing the open palm of another person's hand, so that your fingers match, or mirror, the other person's fingers. After a short time, perhaps one minute, you will feel vibrations emanating from the other person's hand in your own palm. The warmth of the other hand and the vibrational strength

and places from which emanations come reveal the development of one's different faculties. The tips of the fingers, the pads underneath, the center of the palm and muscles between the thumb and index finger are the main sources of these vibrations. T h e following exercises will magnetize the currents of your hands so that they can be used psychically to alleviate pain and assist in the body's restoration process. 1. Standing or sitting, set your spine erect. 2. Shoulders and head should be up with your chin drawn back and in. 3. Exhale deeply, then inhale for seven seconds. At some time, place your right palm on the upturned palm of your left hand. 4. Rub your left palm with your right palm in a circular, clockwise motion one circle each second. 5. At the end of seven seconds, after seven circles have been made, move the right hand away from the left in a motion as if brushing away an insect. 6. Hold your breath for one second. Turn your left hand over and, while you exhale for seven seconds, massage the back of your left hand with the right, counter clockwise, seven times in a circular motion. 7. Again, as before, let the right hand slide away from the back of the left hand and away from your body in a brushing motion. 8. Hold your breath for one second. 9. Now, reverse the hands. Let the left hand be active on both sides of the right hand, rubbing each hand six times. This exercise will take approximately three minutes and twelve seconds. It is based upon the rhythm of Master Breathing and is the key to the work of magnetizing.
POLARIZATION EXERCISES OF T H E HANDS

Laying your magnetized hands on afflicted parts of the body works in this way: the right hand, being positive, "gives," while the left hand, with its negative propensities, is laid on the opposite side of the suffering part to "receive" electro-magnetic streams of healing powers. If more energy is required, dry your hands well, then warm them by rubbing the palms together briskly before "laying on the hands. " W h e n there are no wounds, strained tissue, or fever, massage the body and press on the afflicted parts. To do this, your hands have to be very sensitive (awakened). T h e "laying on of hands" is a very special art, even more so when mending broken tissue is required and when healing powers are sent withcu: touching rhe body. But the most difficult part of this art is to know yccr a r limitations, when the healing should be done by a licensed, competer.: - r. practitioner or facilitator.

To restore harmony in the body, prepare your hands in the following way: 1. Massage all fingertips of your right hand and the center between the thumb and index finger of the left hand (the muscles underneath the thumb and the center of the palm emit very special energies). 2. To get your blood pressure back to normal, place the fingers of both hands below each ear and massage the whole area on each side in a circular motion, especially the points that feel sensitive to pressure.
RESTORATION OF ENERGY

T h e battery of life is concentrated in the spinal fluid. W h e n this fluid enters the sense centers of higher awareness they become saturated with life-energies. Yawning stirs up the spinal fluid through natural means in case of exhaustion and an ebbing of energy. In this process, one squeezes the medulla oblongata, putting additional pressure on the head cavities and along the central spinal canal at the fourth vertebrae. While yawning, your brain, eyes, and ears are temporarily refreshed and enlivened. You may hear a rumbling sound or the ringing of something like delicate silver chains in your head. Likewise, a pleasant feeling penetrates the solar plexus. Two exercises redistribute the spinal fluid and bring fresh supplies of bioenergies to the body's nervous centers. In addition to yawning, the following two exercises are used when circumstances demand great inner strength.
E X E R C I S E NO. i

1. Tense your jaw muscles without clenching your teeth. 2. Relax. 3. Tense your muscles again, and move your lower jaw slightly forward and backward. If you do this exercise correctly, you will hear the delicate ringing of silver chimes. 4. Repeat the exercise twelve or more times until you hear the ringing sound. 5. Next, open your mouth as wide as possible, then close your eyes and press the lids strongly together. You should hear rumbling in your ears, and tears may come into your eyes. These are all signs that the exercise is being done correctly. Do these exercises twelve or more times, which will relax your entire nervous system and at the same time enable you to be alert and tense at any given moment. Work on these exercises, study their effects, and here you will find the keys to great energies and powers. N O T E : Yawning sends out tremendous waves of ether that can influence people within your close proximity. They will yawn often

in turn. Studying the effects of these exercises presents the best way to send telepathic messages: Start them with a yawn; that is, begin with the yawning exercise, and, after you have attained complete relaxation, send out your message whilst yawning.

1. Place your hands together with the palms up. and middle fingertips touching. 2. Bend all fingers upward at a 90 degrees angle so that the back of your fingers touch each other. 3. T h e tips of your thumbs should be touching. (Your fingernails should be cut short in executing this hand posture in "the sign of the water.") 4. Move the hands over your head to the back. Your fingertips should come to a rest on the spot where the skull joins the neck. 5. Press lightly on the spine. 6. Move your head down until your chin comes to a rest upon your chest. 7. Move your head up and down, still maintaining the fingertip pressure. 8. Continue to move your head slowly up and down, twelve times or more. 9. Recite the Word of Power. " M E E E H . " This exercise enlarges the size and capacity of the pineal gland and medulla oblongata in the brain. It also helps you to expand your energies according to your needs. N O T E : This discipline can be executed either standing or sitting with your spine held erect. T h e middle fingers, with the help of the other fingers, must find the right spot on the spine.

Points within yourSelf that are keys to self-knowledge. i ,

During the exercise or immediately afterwards, you will hear a hissing sound and feel vibration at the base of your skull. This comes from the stirring of your spinal fluid moving to and from the fourth vertebrae. The following procedure brings about a tremendous impact, but in order to understand it you will have had to practice and comprehend the previous exercises. Experiences developed in this discipline can make you an adept in the Order of the Serpent.
EXERCISE NO. 3

1. 2. 3. 4.

Sit down or stand up with your spine held straight. Hold your head up and your chin in. Inhale and lock the air passage. Tense the diaphragm and hold this tense feeling all through the procedure. This is done by first tensing the muscles of the bowels and relaxing them, then tensing the muscles of the stomach and letting them relax.

Let this feeling of tenseness pervade all through the exercise. Tensing and relaxing should move up the body in a wave. The moment you need air, inhale and exhale. A tenseness at the base of the skull can be expected to prevail, even during breathing. Learn to tense and relax at will. One way to do this, is to place your fingertips on the muscles between the base of the skull and the neck. Now, study the different degrees of tension. You will find that, though the muscles are relaxed, the pressure in the head will remain. To help in reducing the tension, move your head back and forth and

sideways. Roll your head in both directions, touching your shoulder when possible. Do this exercise often and study its effects. You will find three points of the head where this tensing and relaxing produces beneficial effects: (1) the points between the eyebrowsthere are three, (2) the top of the head, and (3) the base of the skull. All are points of wisdom, understanding, and knowledge, respectively. Tense and relax these points separately, tensing each, one at a time. Also tense and relax the right and left side of your brain. Do these exercises diligentlyslow and with persistence. Be alert for phenomena that may occur during this time. The points within vour-Self are the keys that unlock the knowledge of Self. Tensing and relaxing develop the pineal gland and guide you along the straight path to Self-realization. Caution is needed if the head vibrates sideways in a shaking motion. Vibrations of this nature indicate that too much energy is pent up and blocked to the point of overflowing. In this event stop the exercise immediately and relax. Many other exercises rejuvenate the mind, spirit, and body. They are known to members of the Kaula Circle and are held in sacred trust. One involves the technique of drawing the life fluid that allows one to live for hundreds of years, a secret known to ancient Rosicrucians who seemingly never aged. Each rejuvenation exercise can be expanded. Their innermost meaning can be found in the book Opening the eyes.

HOW TO COMMAND RESPECT In order to obtain what you desire for the Highest Good, sit down at a desk and face the sun. The phrase "face the sun" should be taken literally, since ceremonial and practical magic go hand-in-hand. T h e following practices should be made in solitude. Relax first and concentrate on Self realization. Keep in mind that you will always "Be." Ponder on this pointabout your dreamsthe wishes of your ego bound to your willthinking and feelings. Look at yourSelfas if your knowledge and understanding were strangers observing you. Transmit the impressions thus obtained to the center of the brain in direct, concise terms. Super-impose upon the concept of your true Self the driving powers of your existence, and say: "I can!!! I want!!! I must!!! I will!!!" Reconsider your motivation for this operation. T h i n k of it from evenconceivable angle, and when found worthy, concentrate again upon the object of your desire; picture it clearly, with prime focus. Next, project what you formed in your mind directly to your solar plexus. W h e n you are saturated with the knowledge that fulfillment of your desires is inevitable, invoke a Word of Power that you yourself have already formulated in your mind. This word should express the goal you had set for the Highest Good, in the quest worthy of your efforts. Repeat the word in quiet meditation, until your whole body reverberates with its vibration. 1. Project your will, thoughts, and energies simultaneously to the heart (sun of your microcosm). 2. Inhale through your right nostril employing the sunbreath, " H A . " and proceed with your work. 3. Form your right hand into a fist with your thumb pressed over the index and middle finger. 4. Lift your fist upward. 5. Tense your right-arm muscles and then strike the table. 6. \V hile pounding the table, lean your body over forward, "as if ready to jump from the seat!" . 8. Inhale and say: "I demand . . . [state the object of your desire]!" 9. Let your fist bounce off the table. 10. In a semi-circular movement bring the fist toward your body, so that the side of your little finger will touch your body. This exercise should be repeated a number of times; how many depends upon the importance and intensity of your desire. W h e n you pound the table, holding your breath, the images of your desires unify with the forces of your will. At the same time, invocations send their vibrations into the divine essence of your entire "Being." T h e Words of Power now acquire a substance and life of their own. Desires are never completely under your control. If they are good, they can enrich your life; bad desires, however, will weaken you. W i t h this Arcanum, you can create your own ordinances. If it should be necessary to impose your will on others in their presence in order to defend yourself, the exercise will be made somewhat different. Always keep the inner working of the Arcanum in your mind; remember how and what you visualized when you were alone. As you confront the person, creature or thing, instead of pounding on the table, exert an unnoticeable pressure on your hands. This can be done in three different ways: 1. Grasp your left wrist with the right hand. T h e palm of the right hand should cover the back of the left hand, while the fingers grasp the left wrist. 2. Clasp the outer side of your left hand with the fingers, so that the fingertips exert pressure on the inside hollow of the left hand. The thumb should rest on the top of your wrist.

3. T h e bent fingers of the right hand are hooked by the bent fingers of the left. T h e thumb of the right hand should press the knuckles of one of the fingers from the outside. There is a secret in this art to determine the exact place where pressure should be applied. It is taught in the initiation ceremonies of Free and Accepted Masons. T h e command, demand, or ordinance is always given in a low voice and charged with energy. While you give the command in the third position, tighten your right hand imperceptibly. Decide where to apply the knuckle pressure with the thumb, remembering the unique capacity of each finger and its corresponding pewer. Press hard on the knuckle finger which most dominantly represents the area of purpose of your command. T h e index finger rules the field of your destiny and the middle finger pertains to teaching. T h e ring finger is connected with human feelings, sympathy, and altruism. Lust and carnal desires are arou-fd by pressing the knuckle of the little finger. The areas between the knuckles are pressed when one wishes to change certain spheres of influence. Once you have practiced this Arcanum sufficiently, and whenever intimidated by a person, persons, or circumstance, you will automatically react with equanimity because of such practices.

28. The Second Mystical Arcanum

THOUGHT PROJECTION If you wish to send commands, thoughts, or feelings for healing and help, without speaking, or making perceptible signs to a person present; or if you wish to help, or advise someone who is absent, practice one of the following operations. Watch the rhythm of the person's breathing, and try to time your breathing to the same rhythm. This type of tuning-in is one means of establishing a harmonious alliance with another individual. After some practice and experimentation. you will be able to guide a person for their own benefit. It is done in this way: After tuning-in to the rhythm of the subject's breath, and breathing at the same speed for a while, imperceptibly change your breathing to the Master Rhythm taking along the other person into your breathing pattern. This is more easily accomplished by reciting and repeating the Words of Power in a seven-syllable phrase. Thus, the other individual is lead by such practice into the designated rhythm of Master-breathing, and is now ready for the Master thoughtmainly those matters concerned with help and advice requested beforehand by the other person. By such means you will gain a following; people seeking assistance will gather around you. Depending upon your aims, you can help them to relax, become peaceful and serene by safely slowing down their rate of breathing. To bring a whole group into a receptive mood, have them first sing or recite a simple familiar mantra. Let them repeat the recitation in sonorous ways, singing a simple melody. This should then be followed by a Master mantra, recited during exhalation for seven seconds: YAT-HA-AH-HU-VAI-RI-O.This mantra brings on a feeling of light, peace, health, and knowledge, for it is the mantra of tranquility. T h e opposite effect of thought projection is far easier to achieve. W h e n someone, an activist, for example, wishes to arouse people, he/she instructs them to repeat Words of Power in quick succession. By quickening the tempo with loud recitations, the vibrator}" powers of a declamation are strengthened. This hardens the adherent's determination. They now become tense, excitable, hostile, and even hysterical. Many of those so affected may end up with blind determination to follow any command given by the leader. This method, so well known to politicians and religious fanatics, quickly penetrates psychic levels, sexually exciting and inciting the public, especially when the performance is enhanced by swaying motions, touching, embracing, and by the stamping of feet. Moreover, a meaningful symbolic design adds additional impetus to those seeking personal or group identity.

Schutz / Hilda IV. de

Since ancient times, complex methods of touching, dancing, and intercourse have strengthened the leader's hold on followers. Included in these practices were initiation dances, phallic rites, and the use of temple prostitutes, followed by solemn or frantic demonstrations and processions. These activities inevitably served one end: to "bind" or "yoke" the masses to a certain creed. Literally speaking we have here the basic roots of the word religion, "to bind" (RELIGO), and the concept of yoga, "to yoke," to be forced into "union." This is what religious fanatics, influential cults, sects, fads, and crazes have accomplished through similar hidden practices. They have often "bound" their followers to their will and teachings, even to the point of coercion and murder. Symbols that accompany these teachings have an enigmatic power which influences the flow of subtle, psychic energies. Care must be taken to make the right design. Reverse design of the swastika prompts contraction, instead of expansion. This occurred in a political movement in recent history. The leader used all conceivable magical means to promote his dogma. Selected phrases were constantly repeated with great noise, stamping of feet, and hand signs to instill fear in opponents. The Nazi swastika, however, pointed into the wrong direction. T h e masses, easily influenced and often misguided, usually feel excessive elation when associated with any selected group of this sort. Their small ego is cleverly lulled to rest. Meanwhile, undreamed of energies penetrate their consciousness, far greater than those with which they can cope. Amongst other methods to project your will, desires, and thoughts into the accepting mind of others are the pressing of hypnotic points located on the body. Unscrupulous yogins often use this ruse by pressing the chakra-points on the body of unsuspecting pupils to bind them to their leadership. T h e point between the eyes; power sources in the hands, especially when pressed seemingly as a sign of cognizance; the feet and the top of one's head in the crown-chakraall are particularly vulnerable. Laying-on-of-hands, with the hand sign of blessing, or manual healing along the spine, serves the yogin's end well. Likewise massage, acupressure, petting, kissing and various intimate acts quickly change the victim's behavior pattern and attitude, all to the advantage of the manipulator. If you wish to establish beneficient rapport with someone living at a distance, select a prearranged time when the person will be relaxed, idle, or asleep. Prepare yourSelf with this exercise of the Second Major Arcanum. your etheric body in the general direction. As a result, you will be drawn to the right spot. At the moment of contact you will receive feedback in form of vibrations. Now, formulate your wish, command, or desire. This is done in a short concise sentence while entering meditation. Assume the stance of the resurrected Osiris. This is done by laying both hands, with fingers loosely closed, upon your breast approximately ten inches below the breast bones. The thumb should form, with each index finger, the sign of water. To insure greater impact during this operation, hold a small personal belonging (a letter, picture, or gift) of the person to be contacted in your hands. Here, a spiritual thread links the object with its owner (donator). Attend to the object as you would like the contact person to treat you. Keep in mind that in any case each person is protected by an aura. It is a light that keeps adversity from one's body and mind. All that one sends out returns to one, for good or better, for evil or worse. This is the Law. Once contact has been established, with the help of personal belongings tune into the vibration, all the time modulating the rhythm of your breathing to the Master-breath. This will help you establish supremacy in the work. In this way you transform the vibrations of the object and firmly embed your message in the consciousness of the willing recipient. Do this work in accordance with highest moral consideration, ever being conscious of the Law and Will of the Creator. Do not make these exercises for curiosity's sake. Always send healing, teaching, and guidance to help others who look to you for this form of assistance.

29. The Third Mystical Arcanum

INVOCATION OF SUPERNAL ENERGIES T h e following is a passage from the obscure manuscript of Count Stefan Colonna Waleski, written in the typical jargon of an initiate, intelligible only to a few.
" C o n c e n t r a t e on the development of the great I will be in you as an expression of the Superior Ego. M a k e a design on the top of an altar representing your concept of the symbols on the way to perpetuity. Face the sun at m i d n i g h t . "

Unless you have had spiritual experiences, the significance of such phrases are hard to understand. Mystifying coded expressions of this sort are a kind of ecclesiastic shorthand, describing in a few sentences a rather complex spiritual discipline, occult happenings or schemes of secret rituals. The following paragraphs explain what the initiate wanted to tell you about the activation of superior powers by means of invocations. " T h e sun at midnight" is a rather exhilarating experience during meditations when a clear, bright light is seen with closed eyes. " T h e designs on top of the altar" illustrate the way the life forces undulate in quasi-geometrical form throughout the various spiritual sense organs. These designs improve meditation and are tools aiding in the ceremonial work. Begin as follows: 1. Draw a circle on the floor. This will be the center for your altar. 2. On top of the altar paint in reverse a circle in the square. This emblem depicts the energy-flow in the sense organ at the bottom of your spine (the Mulhadara Chakra). Its awakening, makes you a Master over energies capable of renewing your whole life spiritually and physically.

3. To awaken the three tremendously powerful energies which emerge from their dormant stage, project your will fo the bottom of your spine. 4. Mentally stir up the vibrations, as if churning milk to make butter. This is aided by the use of mantras and "the work of the hands. " Once the vibrations issue from their resting-place, they proceed in circles and lines to expand in all directions. T h e crucial part in the operation is to know the right Words of Power, the names of the energies, and the correct sign (mudra) of an enlivened hand. One must also know when to start, and how to conclude the ritual. Before the start of any invocation, charge your body with the energies of the First Major Arcanum. Make the altar from marble, iron, or wood, but not from plastic material, plywood, or cardboard. Paint the emblem of the energy (the Angel you wish to approach) on top of the altar. The identical reversed design is drawn on the floor with chalk or charcoal in continuous lines. There should not be a break in the lines, and the square must be drawn with 90 degree angles. At this point, make your drawing with the right hand. Meanwhile hold the left hand tightly closed with your thumb squeezing the index and the middle fingers. Draw the circle clockwise, "following the sun." Write between the double lines of the circle the names, symbols, or words of protective entities. T h e words of the Master protection are YAT-HA-AH-HU-VAI-Rl-O, " T h e will of the Lord is the Law of righteousness." W'hen enlivening the five points of power before the start of the ceremony, guide the streams of energy around the pentade with the words: YAT-HA-AHHU-YAH. Correctly translated, it means, "the Hand of the Lord is Power." T h e word YAT can be translated as hand, will, or emanations. T h e selection of words and formulae depend upon the nature of the invocation. Recite the mantras or chants with strong conviction, understanding, and wisdom. Let all of your faculties partake of the evocation so that the vibrations of the Words of Power are felt all over the body. Each letter is of prime importance and if one is missing, or where there is one too many, the operation may fail. Thus, a thorough knowledge of the significance of letters is essential. T h e secret of the lettersthe building stones of th universeare fully preserved in ancient cabalistic manuscripts. T h e position of the letters within the scheme of the chakras is laid down in great detail in the classical Sanskrit works, SHAT-CHAKRA-NIRUPANA and PADUKA-PANCHAKA, translated by Avalon in his book Serpent Power. Keep in mind that the disciples practicing the teachings of Yoga view this discipline as a way of life. To succeed in the magical work of the yoga, combine your chants or formulae with movements, stances, circumambulations, or dances. Burn incense, light candles, use magical implements, and dress in ceremonial robes, but most important, be sure your spiritual, physical, and intellectual faculties act together in harmony.

T h e 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet reveal through their forms, sounds, and position in a word the nature and actions of supernal powers. When the letters are understood in their cabalistic sense, they become tools of the initiate and the words change into forces that form, maintain, and improve life. Hidden paths are revealed when words are formed or existing ones changed by adding, removing, or transferring letters.

What you experience in the secluded meditations must become part of your worshipful service. These observations become a spiritual drama, which, in the routine performance of a ceremonial service, eventually pervades your disciple's mind and commands respect. This ritual reveals the actions of the deeper Self to the participants and make them subject to your will for the highest good. After the ceremonial worship, retire and meditate again in solitude. The energies you have awakened before remain at your command. The aura is now your ritual robe, and its colors and form show the level of your rank. Words of Power become songs. Eventually your whole life will turn into a magic invocation in which you master your existence. T h e earth is the magic circle in which you stand out as a leader, protected by the name of God. For this reason keep your thoughts, will, feelings, and actions within His Law. If you act in harmony with the energies of the universe, they will in turn make you a true Master.

The earth is your body; "East" stands for the region of the genitals, the "West" represents the head (the intellect). T h e work of the right hand, activating the left side of the brain, is called the "South." T h e work of the left hand is known as the " N o r t h . They are points of reference in the schemes of ceremonial magic, and are additionally important components of iconography. The law of the trice-wise hermes"as above, so below"implies that man, universe, and time are ruled by the same ordinances. Therefore look within yourSelf, and you will see there the sun, moon, and stars, and the altar, elementals, and directions of space. W h e n you have found them and comprehended how they act, you will understand their potencies in space and time. The magical circle protects you from your own intentional and unintentional emanations. Do not forget that when advancing in the magical arts your powers grow and exert increasingly stronger influence on mind and body. This is the reason why only Masters should invocate.

You are told that the magical wand is made from a wooden rod with a magnetized steel core on the inside. A copper wire is wound in spirals seven times around the wand. A tourmaline is fastened at the south end while the hand holds the north. There is the secret of the tefillin hidden and of serpents that spiral around the arms of Persian, Indian, and Greek angels. In manuscripts the length of the wand is given as "long as your arm." This is worth contemplating.

3 1 . Summary
Mankind generally lives in a state of slavery, controlled and moved by desires, lust, greed, and fears. Ignorant of their true natureon the physical, but more so on the other levelshumans go through life affected and directed by conflicting interests. These interests are imprinted on their actions, and, for the most part, warp intellectual, emotional, and spiritual growth. Liberation from the bondage of this slavery of ignorance and darkness comes through direct or indirect guidance of Souls who previously attained freedom and perfection through countless lifetimes on earth. These are the hidden Mastersthe Thirty-six Just Menfilled with wisdom, compassion, and knowledge, leadership qualities which have guided humankind in it? evolution since time began. Eventually they became rulers, teachers, commanders and saviors. According to Master teachers, the world was formed by energies anc vibrations that resemble letters and words on the physical level. This explained by the Gnostic statement: "In the beginning was the Word." W h e n you meditate upon certain Words of Power, you tune-in on the." wave length. These three components have many names. They are known as the Three Mothers that form, maintain and destroy life. They are called the three elementsfire, water, and airforming the illusions of existence in the universe. Together, they have in Zoroastrism the name GAYA-LHAMAthe forces of life. T h e elements enter your body through your breath. They are theprana of the Indians that cling to the five points of Mastery on the head, hands, and feet. T h e pentagram has many names; it is the center star in the crowns of rulers and represents the five points of fellowship in Masonic tradition. It is also known as the star of the Wise Men and is a potent symbol long used by the Magii to work with miraculous energies. T h e five points of immortality stand for religion, knowledge, life. Soul, and Spirit respectively. T h e holy book of ZEND-AVESTA proclaims this mastery as the highest goal. In it you find the answer to the riddle of human life: " W h y am I in this world?" "You are," as Zoroaster said, "on the earth to reclaim the world. We all must eventually turn the desert into a paradise suitable for the presence of God and His powers to dwell therein. This, then, is the goal of our life." Behold the great saying of faith: "Be of good thought, good words and good deeds." They are analogous with the thoughts of Masters, the words of Masters, and masterly deeds. These are the guidelines that God gave, whose name is AURA-MAZDA, the light of supreme wisdom. MAZDA is wisdom, and AURA(ORA) is the endless light venerated all over the world as ORM U Z D , or OR-BLI-SOPH.

Darkness of an angry mind issues negative thoughts, undesireable words, and bad deeds. The results are analogous with the thoughts, words, and deeds of slaves; men in slaver}- by their own choice. T h e Master system teaches through control of breath in the Master rhythm and its exercises (the Arcana) to change the slavery of mind to one of freedom. Here, the light can be approached and worshipped. W h e n you become conscious of your true Self, assert it, renounce the bondage of ordinariness and slavery, and strive to become a Master. First become Master of yourSelf, and then Teacher of others. And these are his two precepts: " T h e Will of the Lord is the Law of Righteousness," and " T h e Will of the Lord is Power." The proof of Mastery is that you are at all times in a receptive mood, open to receive positive and good energies. These titanic powers are everywhere and surround you at all times, they are always seeking to come into your awareness and express themselves through you. To be receptive to the powers you have to go through the exercises of the Arcana, especially establishing the Master rhythm of breathing. At the same time, relinquish all impressions and adverse influences that have surrounded you since your birth. In the initiation into these mysteries you have passed through the elements.

In the ceremonythe first, initiation by wateryou are submerged in water and sprinkled with blessed water, or you may pass through a river or sea. Spirituallyand this is the real initiationyou receive the supernal waters in your body, emanations from above. This is exemplified in the life of Osiris, Moses, and Christ, Masters who passed through the waters. In the second initiation, you walk through a fire that streams from above as revealed in the Babylonian and Dravidian mysteries. In the third initiationthe secret of the airthe Supernal Spirit is revealed as thought in the Egyptian and Greek mysteries. This subject is further explained in my book Call Adonoi. T h e main lesson here is how to manipulate the formative energies in your Self. You develop by these means the capacity to communicate with the powers of the universe. As a sign of your success, you join the assembly of Hidden Masters who are working on the evolution of Oneness. By acquiring right knowledge to govern your thoughts, will, and feelings, you will have attained command over your bodily functions. This is the major task of the Arcana. Furthermore you know now how to understand and guide yourSelf. In consequence, your actions are noble, well controlled, and successful, and at all times attentive to the demands of the deeper Self. T h e development of such Mastery is the Great Work known as "the short way." It can be yours when you have faithfully followed the practices of the seven Major Arcana.

In this extremely powerful exercise, the procreative forces are drawn from the base of the spine. Guided up the vertebrae the forces are projected over the head, down the front of the body, and back to their sources. The outer awareness of both participants expands at this moment and the mildly glowing serpentfire will well up the bodies in spirals. This causes the gates of perceptions to expand to open the road that leads to deepest darkness "of the mothers". Many other formative spiritual forces proceed in identical spiral forms. To understand this, study the works on D.N.A. and star galaxies.

The exercises of this book can be made with the tantric teachings in mind, but must be regularly repeated at auspicious times to guide you in the right direction. Experiment at the same time with powers that emanate from hands, elbows, knees, feet, navel, heart, etc., because each part of your body radiates forces that have different effects upon yourself and your partner. You both must learn to respond with understanding and wisdom; you both must become initiates. Learn now to command without speaking, letting the spiritual forces carry your will. And listen continuously with your deeper self to the silence of others.

34. SUPREME DISCIPLINE Subdue the chatter of your outer awareness with the help of an ancient exercise: 1. Stand erect with the arms lifted straight above the head;

2. Spin on one place in slow turns from the left to the right, but never practice longer than to a point of slight dizziness; 3. During the turns let the word "whooo" vibrate in your throat, without the sound being heard. In this exercise of the "dancing Dervishes", (Maulawis, supreme Masters) turn on the left foot and push yourself around with the right foot. Lower your arms, and during the first turns, hold them horizontally extended, forming the stance of crucifixion. The left palm faces the floor, the right hand is opened to the heavens. You will feel like floating between heavens and earth. End of manuscript. God bless you.

The Science of Breath

1. In the human body the spirit is chained by the breath, and this breath changes every five "gadis" and one element (vaya) remains in settled order during each "gadi." These elements move, and are named after the 12 signs of the Zodiac: 1. Aries T* (Ram); 2. Taurus 8 (Bull); 3. Gemini II (Twins); 4. Cancer ^ (Crab); 5. Leo (Lion); 6. Virgo T t (Virgin); 7. Libra T (Balance); 8. Scorpio TJ (Scorpion); 9. Sagittarius f (Archer), Capricornus T 2 (Goat), Aquarius ~ (Water-beater), and Pisces 8 (Fishes). 2. The breath sometimes comes out from the right nostril, and sometimes out of the left; and sometimes out of both nostrils. 3. The right nostril is of the sunHA; and the left nostril of the moonTA; and the science of breath (pranavama) is, therefore, called HATA YOGA, i.e., the conjunction of the sun and moon. 4. WThen two breaths are working the life runs in the spinal column and is called "sukshmana"literally fine one. 5. The "sukshmana" breath is for meditation alone, and no worldly action will succeed when this breath is working. 6. The following actions, performed when the left breath (Ida) is working, will achieve their full purpose, and be successful: I. II. III. IV. V. VI. VII. VIII. IX. X. XI. XII. XIII. XIV. All steady actions. Purchases. Travel to distant countries. The pacification of planets. The giving of clothes. Cooking. Marriage. Interviews with superiors. Visiting friends. Business. In the performance of all good actions, the moon breath gives peace and success. 9. The following actions performed when the sunHAbreath is working will come to success: I. II. III. IV. V. VI. VII. The charming of women, the control of a woman, and all acts of passion should be done on the sun breath. 15. The controlling of demons and ghosts., the entering of a big forest, the swimming of a river should be done on the sun breath. There will then be complete success. 16. W h e n debating, quarrelling, or when enemies are attacking, or are present, or one's superior is angry, the situation is fraught with danger when two breaths are working. 19. To enter a place on the moon breath, take even steps with the left foot first, i.e.. two, four, six, etc., and on the sun breath odd numbers, and the right foot first. This ensures success. 20. But never leave a place on a double breath for it means death, loss or pain. 21. Any action to the front, on the left or above will be fruitful if performed on the moon breath. 22. Any action on the right, downwards, backwards, or in the middle performed on the sun breath will be fruitful. 23. The place of the moon breath is towards the East and Xorth. 24. The place of the sun is towards the South and the West. 25. Do not go to the East or Xorth when the moon breath is working for there will be danger. 26. Do not go to the South or West when the sun breath is working, for there will be death. 27. If a question is asked in even letters when the moon breath is working, the answer will be favorable. 28. If the question is put on the empty breath and then the life breath works the man will have had an injury on his left side or on his head. 38. If the moon breath is working all questions asked at that time will be favourable, unless the syllables of the question are odd. 39. In the same way a question in even syllables asked when the sun breath is working will have an unfavourable answer. 40. Any questions pertaining to the length of life asked on the moon breath or when it is near, when a patient is ill, means that the patient will not die. 41. If a person puts his question facing the directions, or between the complete directions, then turning to a complete direction, the answer will be favourable. 42. If the questioner stands in the direction in which the breath comes out, the answer will be favourable; and by this you can know whether his objects are of the moon or of the sun, and which breath favours his projects. 43. T h e wind element is as green as the centre of the moon and the sun. The flow of the breath is slanting and goes out a distance of eight fingers. 92. The sky (ether) element is unknown and gives no fruit. 93. It has one great utility: it cuts away fruit and gives salvation. 94. Don't go out when the moon breath is working: and if a person comes at this time to ask about the directions it is not favourable for his travels. 117. If a questioner comes and stands facing the empty direction, but afterwards stands towards the flowing breath it will be auspicious. 118. If the sun breath or the moon breath changes its direction, then the person abroad (of whom question has been made) has started from his place. 119. If when a question is put of an absent person, the water element is in the breath, the absent person will soon return: if the earth element is in the breath, then it means he is happy where he is; if the wind element, then he has gone away from that place: and dead if the fire element is in the breath. 120. If the sun and moon breaths are in their own elements and going with full force, a pilgrimage undertaken at that time will be auspicious. 111. If either the sun or moon breaths are going on when a person questions, it is good for the man who questions: but if the empty breath is working at that time he will die. 122. If the empty breath has in it the elements of earth, he will die from an injury to the stomach: if the water element is there an injury below the navel: :: the fire element is there, heart-disease: if the wind element, there will be an injury to the -highs; snd if the ether element, to the head.
