[Invitation/donation request letter to businesses throughout Milwaukee]

To Whom It May Concern: On behalf of the Gold N Blues, Marquette Universitys only co-ed a cappella group, I would like to formally invite you to our annual fundraising concert event, Harmony For Hope. The concert, which takes place on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at 2 p.m., is, first and foremost, a fundraiser. All proceeds from donations and ticket sales will go to this years chosen charity, RU4PKMU. As you undoubtedly know, a series of terrible floods devastated Pakistan in late July of 2010. The Indus River, which flows the entire length of Pakistan, was affected by heavy monsoon rains and overflowed, covering approximately one-fifth of Pakistans land with water. The Pakistani government estimates that 20 million people have been directly affected by the flood. 20 million peoples homes have been destroyed, their jobs rendered obsolete, and their families injured or killed. According to OXFAM, an international confederation trying to find lasting solutions to poverty and injustice, the Pakistani flood was the worst humanitarian crisis that the UN has ever recognized. How unfortunate, then, that this natural disaster, again, the worst humanitarian crisis in almost 60 years, has not been given the media attention or aid that it merits because of past tension between the United States and the Middle East. RU4PKMU and the Gold N Blues urge you to remember that, despite the history, despite the tension, there are people in Pakistan who desperately need our help. There are mothers and fathers and children and spouses and friends just like ours who have lost everything, who have nothing left because of this horrible disaster. Please, help us help them. Help us to give them the food, water, shelter, and clothing they lost last year. Simply by purchasing a ticket or donating to RU4PKMU, you can greatly increase the quality of life for someone in Pakistan. As Paul Farmer, acclaimed anthropologist and scholar, said, The only real nation is humanity. We, as members of the human race, need to be present for our fellow human beings. We need to come to their aid in times of tragedy and do our best to protect the gift that is human life. So please, come to the Gold N Blues fundraising a cappella concert event, Harmony for Hope or donate to the featured charitable student organization, RU4PKMU. The concert will be on Sunday, March 27, 2011. It begins at 2 p.m., tickets are $5 and all proceeds go to RU4PKMU. We hope to be seeing you on March 27. Sincerely, Casey Stelletello Public Relations Director Gold N Blues casey.stelletello@mu.edu
