    In 1538, Henry VIII dispatched Tudor Court painter Hans Holbein to Belgium to render a portrait of prospective bride 16 year old Christina of Denmark. Already widowed at age 14 (at 13, she had wed, by proxy, the Duke of Milan), this Danish princess and Duchess of Milan was considered a potential match for England's monarch. Supposedly she told the British Ambassador “If I had two heads, one should be at the King of England’s disposal”. Happily she did not marry the English King, leaving him to marry another of Holbein’s subjects, Anne of Cleves.
