Interactive Courseware Design Proposal

Margaret Thayer
ED TECH 511 Fall 2010

Overview Program Title: Rotten Tomatoes: Causes of and Remedies for Tomato-Growing Problems Grade or age level(s): Adults and teens Major Goal: Learners will identify the problems they are having, or might have, in growing tomatoes at home as well as remedies to those problems. Amount of Time to Learn the Content: 30 minutes System Requirements: Microsoft Vista / Windows XP SP2, 512M RAM, 56k dial-up, Flash Player 7.0 or above, audio card, and speaker. Program Description Characteristics of Target Learners: Learners are adults or teens who grow tomatoes at home. They will already have basic knowledge of backyard tomato gardening and conducting information searches on the Web. The learners are assumed to have at least a sixth-grade reading level. Most will already be experiencing problems with their tomato growing efforts, so they will want to identify the problem(s) they are having and remedies for those problems. Content Description: This interactive courseware contains two main components: (1) a hypermedia format that permits learners to select from three menu categories containing information that will help them to identify the particular tomato-growing problem they are experiencing as well as non-toxic remedies for that problem; and (2) a tomato problem matching quiz that permits learners to test their ability to match a photograph of a common tomato-growing problem with the cause of the problem. Learners will receive instant feedback on their matching quiz choices, and the option to try again for an incorrect choice. Instructional Objectives: 1. Learners will identify the problem or problems they are having with their home-grown tomatoes. 2. Learners will identify non-toxic remedies for backyard tomato-growing problems. 3. Learners will practice their ability to match a photograph of a tomato-growing problem with the cause of the problem.
