I dont know about you, but I am saddened by our societys deep sense of entitlement .

Our all about me mentality severs marriages, friendships, businesses and familie s. In fact, we place so much emphasis on externalsso much emphasis on ourselvesand to what gain? Apparently, I am not alone in this thinking. A recent survey indicates that nearly 83% of Americans strongly or somewhat agre e that Americas youth feel more entitled compared to 10 years ago. According to a national survey conducted by the Sacred Heart University Polling Institute, res pondents say that youth feel more entitled and are more assertive, while being l ess responsible and less religious than earlier generations. Sounds like we are mimicking the Israelites of long ago. They strayed from God, sought their own personal gain, and missed Gods blessing. The New Testament addre sses the issue of entitlement too. 1 Timothy 6:6 reads, But godliness with contentment is great gain. Clearly Christ is reminding us that even sincere Christians fall into the trap of entitlement. We may live a very godly life but be filled with discontent over relationships, jobs, grades, material items, etc. God gives, we receive, and then we want more. Consider the iPhone. Marketing gurus try to convince us that the latest and grea test model is a must-have item. Rarely is their marketing strategy to build a fa mily of phones. Instead, one is to take the place of another. Now consider what other pursuits are stealing your attention while robbing your contentment. My prayer is that we recognize the futility in perfection. To be godly with cont entment means we are to act more like Christ while satisfied with even meager pr ovisions. The Lord says, He lavishes gifts upon us. Our problem lies in human perc eption. We may view Gods gifts as insignificant, while He views them as treasures . He has our best intentions in mind, so why dont we trust Him?
