Flannigan A Dispatch From Reuters The story focuses around news mogul Paul Julius Reuter. His business first begins with homing pigeons, but eventually these turn out to be less superior to the telegraph. He nows has the ability to connect Europe, but it becomes a challenge for him to receive many followers. However, he is able to prove the superiority of his telegraph and news by stopping a delivery of poison to a hospital. The scandal is forced to be kept quiet, because Ida Magnus, the daughter of one of the daughters at the hospital will ruin their work. Reuter is able to convince bankers to give him some money, because he is a sound bet. In this time Reuters friend, Max Wagner, has become at the Brussels office. However, now Ida is running the business. This causes Reuters to propose to Ida. She accepts. At this time Reuter now has enough money to create a telegraph empire. This causes him to disperse his employs, so that they can cover the news from all over the world. This causes resentment from John Delane, editor of The Times, but Napoleon III convinces John Delane to quit these charges. Reuter borrows money eventually so much that he can create an empire covering a wide range of subjects including the assassination of President Lincoln. However, people believe that this story was fabricated. He is charged for making up the event, but once other sources prove he is right the story is dropped. This story was helpful to the class for now I know how secretive the news can be. This put a sense of danger and mystery to the news that I never really thought about. I mean I was well aware of how dangerous journalism can be. Don Bolles was a reporter for the Phoenix Star. While covering organized crime in Arizona, a car bomb was placed underneath his seat. It went off, and eventually the injuries received from this bomb killed him. This movie also gave an example of how much power the reporter has. Some of the most important people in American history have been reporters; Edward R. Murrow, Nellie Bly, Woodrow and Bernstein, Walter Cronkite, William Randolph Hearst, Joseph Pulitzer. The American Film Inistitue considers Citizen Kane the greatest movie of all time. It revolves around the live of Charles Foster Kane. He is a reporter.
